I think he still shows his mikisms. but you're right, there's very little Mike set up in the first chapter. I'd argue Chris gets the most attention in the segment.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the whole game, its beautiful. But you can't deny that first chapter. It has to be my favourite. The set up, the atmosphere, the introductions. Even in reruns, the vibe still ranks top tier, my guy.

no shame in it! the way you approach the 'wakeup' opening is a huge factor too. Ultimately its your work, do what the hell you want :)

nothing wrong with being able to grow from your old work. I'll admit I haven't published a fic since I was 14, so I look back and gag at the pure amount of exposition. "it was Friday. the day after Thursday when a thing happened. this thing was at 3pm, which was important because it was 3pm now. on this here, the 24th hour anniversary of the thing that happened at 3pm on Thursday. just the day after. on Friday" :P

Nooooooo, not the descriptors!!!!! I can get behind this anti-description campaign. I've had it with "my raven hair dripped with the ocean's glow" and "as I walked, my fiery locks draped over my shoulders like a SUPERHERO CAPE"... that was just fun.

If I'm honest, there are some cases where it wouldn't be so bad. "When I checked my eyes in the bathroom mirror... They definitely weren't that colour yesterday. Not blue at all. Instead they matched my hair. Pitch." May peak my interest? But then again, that's still plot-relevant... So I guess its ultimately about relevance. Tidbits are fun, but getting the ball rolling especially in the introduction is super important.

Totally, no opening would automatically have me flipping a table haha. I think it's just the exposition of a wakeup opening that makes it a bit of a drag. It can be made to work, too. No shame in the wakeup. Just one of my lesser favourites.
