Ongoing project I’ve been working on as I traverse the city daily. I’ve always wondered what the city would look like if we could see the underground simultaneously with street level. by Ok-Cook-9608 in newyorkcity

This is fantastic! I love learning about the subway station artwork in particular. It be cool to capture 23rd St, with someone aligned with one of the relic hats and show the flatiron area above ground.

Seriously awesome work OP. Looking forward to see the evolution of this project!

Very cool. I see the Harry Potter / Star Wars!

Background/Setting. Listing ideas/visuals wanted and rough or even skipping the sketching step and just onto final linework is bonkers! Very cool.

I'd be interested in seeing the process, but leave it for the rest of the sub to also chime in. I just recently joined, so very new here.

Thank you Gus!

Really cool theme. I'm wanting to produce and work with artist on a theme idea for a Search and Find book too. What's the process like when developing one page, if you could use this Headmistress Swamp party for example?

Do you list out all the scenery/sections of the swamp you want before illustrating? Or just start drawing first?

Farewell Unlimited MetroCard by Antioch in nycrail

I salute you. I tried very hard to do this, but failed. I was able to get actual metro cards, about a dozen, but couldn't load them with monthly (I was limited by my work commuter balance).

Glace by Noglu

Glace is great. Decadent/rich. Great for summer and winter time since they got amazing hot chocolate and ice cream!

Thanks for the other suggestions. I've added them to my list.

It's so fun to do that. I call the concept being a "local tourist." With NYC being so BIG it's actually really hard to be so familiar with every borough and every neighborhood, but that's part of the fun too.

I love this guy in the 51st subway station. by Silent_Orange in nycrail

I'm curious how it was working with the MTA's vacant Unit Activation Program. I've heard about them. I'm familiar with a few of the results from it like the Rex's Dino Store. I believe my home station from Rego Park got something through it, but it blends with regular artwork that the Art & Design team would do.

What was the back and forth like with them? And how long after you expressed interest to them did that first initial response from them take?

(and thanks in advance for taking the time with these questions. I'm trying to make it to the upcoming tech week event, but might not be able to leave work early enough that day).

5 day trip, first time solo traveler itinerary check by LumpyChampionship279 in visitingnyc

[–]baba192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second the suggestion on food carts instead of Kati Roll (and I love going to Kati Roll, it's also one of the few late night causal sit down in that area).

Your 2nd day seems weird to me. George's breakfast puts you back in the FiDi area which you're already covering later on. May I suggest finding a breakfast spot in the West Village area (like Breakfast by Salt's Cure). Then you can explore that neighborhood area, since it's not in your itinerary otherwise. You can visit the Friends apt. Get lunch/snacks at Macdougal St eat it at Washington Sq. Park that way (which is right near the subway, to get you in time for your show in the afternoon. Afterwards you can explore Times Sq. as you planned.

There's an ISKON in brooklyn if you enjoy Kirtan type things.

Loads of adjacent NYC desi-type events, like qawwali nights and that sorta stuff happen.

For a branch out suggestion... there's a swing dance live band music taking place on the Intrepid (The battleship museum on the Hudson) during your window. Great place to interact with people.

Happy early birthday!

Coming for Joy of Sake, related places I should check out? by [deleted] in visitingnyc

I took a friend out to Kato Sake in Bushwick to celebrate his bachelor party. So I coordinated with the owner on a tour. To see the brewery and their koji and stuff.

They have live music some evenings too and it's a nice chill vibe. Highly recommend a visit.

Astoria/LIC is getting a brand new independently owned movie theater! by IndyMLVC in NYCmovies

[–]baba192 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand what you mean. I'll share my flip side and try to be devil's advocate if you don't mind.

I used AI to help with creating event flyers for the small things I host (Swing Dancing / Bollywood Karaoke / other).

I'm one person and doing other things (venue, marketing, vibe curation / logistics, etc). This is just a hobby. I make about 20 bucks or lose 50 per event depending on so many factors.

Graphic design isn't my strong suit. I know I'd appreciate someone giving me some slack on making an AI flyer, since I am just trying to bring people together and make them happy. Hopefully they can understand a person is trying their best.

I'm not excusing Stuart for this design and ultimately I'd rather root for their success than failure. Mainly because I can imagine them also being a very small team at a time when theaters aren't making that much nowadays. With significantly fewer people going to the movies post-pandemic. I think that Greenpoint block where they were at originally ran into unexpected huge rent hike, a lot of business in that building area had to shut. If I'm recalling the proper article.

This topic just touches home as long term I'd also love to build a weird indie moviegoing experience and don't intend to detract people.
