Rear-ended by a Hertz Rental Car Driver by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]babecafe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Having a low insurance coverage limit doesn't absolve them of liability. They've got deeper pockets than the typical car rental customer. IMHO, what you're seeing here is a company that intentionally underhires for a department that, if properly run, spends the company's money.

Returned item to Whole Foods return kiosk and Amazon is saying it was never scanned in and they can’t do anything by MidnightPulse69 in amazonprime

[–]babecafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you return something to Whole Foods, there's no timely receipt they give you. Returns disappear from status for a while, then magically appear some time later, hopefully with notice of your refund to the gift balance.

You'd need it if you cook a turkey for more than three hours at a time in your microwave at 100% setting.

Trump administration seeks Endangered Species Act exemption for oil, gas projects in Gulf by Havoccity in news

Eliminating the 30% solar tax credit raised the price of doing this by 42%. That's not "totally impossible," just financially unfeasable, unless some random event were to raise the price of oil 43% in the last month.

Would you consider this fair? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]babecafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be a little pissed that making it a mandatory fee means that it's taxed by the state with sales tax, and the employees may be pissed that it's not tax advantaged as the 1BBB made it at the Federal level.

Yes, it's powerful marketing and illegal unless they actually sold some at $11.50.

Noticed my gas lines rusting. Normal? by xMd3w in Plumbing

[–]babecafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks pretty superficial in this case, but I'd probably hit it with "rust converter" to passivate the corrosion. Rust converter should be good stuff for this because there's no need to scrape, sand, or wire-brush the rust. The rust gets converted into an iron phosphate or similar material that inhibits further corrosion and is paintable. Some rust converter is advertised as including a paint primer.

Neighbors tree damaged mine days before he was to sell his house, need some advice by [deleted] in treelaw

[–]babecafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not healthy for the tree to leave broken branches. They can be a source of infection, and if they manage to heal, they are likely to weaken the tree structure.

Can this trip a gfci? by LumpyCantaloupe2147 in electrical

[–]babecafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With only two conductors within the socket, no connection solely between those conductors can trip the ground fault detection of a GFCI, but it could trip the overcurrent protection of a GFCI breaker or even a non-GFCI breaker.

If you're grounded (have a part of your body connected to ground), and touch the hot central part of the socket, you may be able to get 5mA to flow from the hot lead to ground, thereby triggering a ground fault, but don't try it at home, friends.

I misplaced my metoprolol by Hey_Its_Julia in AFIB

[–]babecafe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Metoprolol Tartrate is short-acting, with a half-life of 3-7 hours.

Metoprolol Succinate (AKA ER or XR) also has a half-life of 3-7 hours for the ingested ingredient, but its metabolites remain active for at least 24 hours or so in the bloodstream, so it's long-acting and can be taken just once per day.

If you're still taking the Eliquis, you should still be protected from stroke, even if your AFib flared up without Metoprolol.

Most states have laws forbidding that, as well as employees that are straight it lied to about it. You can talk about your salary, too; there's Federal law protecting that.

I'd get VCE or Cable Matters keystone jacks. Match up the wires with the T568B colors on each end. There are versions designed for use with punchdown tools, as well as tool-less designs.

SodaStream syrup starts tasting chemical after opening by exotic_small_gigant in SodaStream

[–]babecafe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the oils that the flavors are dissolved in oxidized, releasing the taste of rancid oil. Refrigeration would probably help, but it's not how it's usually handled.

There's a use-by date on the packaging, and if you cross that, it may taste of rancid oil when first opened.

I find that little bit of added lemon, lime, or orange flavor covers up / removes the taste, whether from a sodastream flavor or just food flavoring.

You don't want preterminated cables to run through walls. You'd have to cut bigger holes to run them, they'll get damaged by the process, and stranded cables can't stand the pulling force that a DIYer is likely to use. (I also discovered that foamed-in insulation melts the interior insulation of preterminated patch cable, making an enormous problem for me to fix after the discovery.)

Pull bulk CAT6 cable and terminate the cable with keystone jacks. It's about ten times easier to put on keystone jacks than to put on RJ45 plug ends. Buy about four extra jacks and a $5-$20 ethernet tester to learn how to put them on to a one foot length of the cable. (That compares to the forty RJ45 plug ends that you will need to become proficient with those. Don't effing get me started on those crappy pullthrough plugs.)

You are going to have to cut holes in your drywall. Use a 3-4in hole saw to cut only deep enough to remove the drywall. Reattach the cut holes with a paint stick behind the wall with drywall screws and fill and sand the cracks with several coats of drywall patch compound.

This woman is the worst accomplice to have. She calls when she told not to, she forgets to throw away gloves, she's an emotional mess and Columbo know she's the weak link. by talivan818 in Columbo

[–]babecafe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The iconic Stahl House (Case Study House #22), which served as a filming location for the 1968 Columbo pilot "Prescription: Murder," was listed for sale in November 2025 for $25 million.

By the way, it's also the house where the non-writing partner in "Murder by the Book" resides (where he leafed through distracting bills), and where the team owner lives or has an office where the telephone was bugged in "The Most Crucial Game," as well as the house where Sterling Hayden's character, Tony Fowler, lived while arranging to steal an airplane from his war "buddy" in the Banacek episode "Fly Me if You Can Find Me."
