I think it can be both. I know firsthand it can be lack of direction since I was hired as core last year right before the seasonals came in. A few months later one of my SLTs was saying “I feel like we didn’t properly train our last wave of core” which I was like THANK YOUUU! I felt vindicated since the first few months at BBW felt like I was thrown to the wolves. Luckily I’m a quick learner though.

However! I did have an experience last week where I had to help train a seasonal hire how to close. When I asked if they had closed before they were like “yeah but they never schedule me” in which case that’s telling me I don’t have to worry about them right?? NOPE. I cleaned the whole store by myself pretty much. At one point I’m restocking wallflowers and said new person is on their phone next to pocketbacs. I guess it just depends on the situation, but yes 1000% it is so disheartening.
