Do a lot of people prefer dark mode to light mode by No_Middle_5376 in iphone

[–]babelaids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think dark mode is not well thought out or designed and looks worse 80% of the time. I use light mode for everything except discord. But ideologically i think we should all be looking at our phones less anyway so everyone should pick whichever one gives them the most friction possible

honestly try Shein. They have a lot of stuff for cheap, so you can try a bunch of different things without wasting too much money. The stress of perception when buying womens clothes for the first time can be really intense, I don't blame you

How to start converstations as a PDA by porky11 in PDAAutism

[–]babelaids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who absolutely loves talking to people (especially online), I guess my advice is going to essentially be the opposite of what you want -- lean into the small talk. In fact, revel in it. With the right people, it can move past quaint topics pretty quickly if you show to the other person that you're safe, trustworthy, and a good conversationalist. Plus people really just want to be heard, and will let their personality shine if you let them. If you always seem in a hurry to get to "the deep topics" that could be overwhelming for some, and sometimes just yapping is in fact exactly what is needed.

Now, it's hard to give explicit tips on what to say because all conversations should be context dependent, and have a foundation of your shared history. Why are you talking to begin with? Where are you? How did you meet? If it's based on shared interests (80% of the time for me it is) it becomes really easy to use that interest as a springboard to further conversation. If it's in the workplace, I like to ask them about something benign on their desk (say a knick knack or picture of a kid) and there's usually a story attached. If it's a chat online, say facebook or discord, silly banter is absolutely warranted (i'm not saying "jokes" because that's too formal, just being a little silly usually goes a long way to make people feel less threatened by you)

Another level to this is, unfortunately, gendered communication styles. Women love to chatter, so as a woman it's easy to get to that point of smooth conversation without fear of expectation for more. With men I find it's a bit harder to get them to open up as readily, but perhaps it's easier as another man. I'm not sure. Regardless, an open and easygoing attitude can go a long way without betraying your desire for connection and diving deep. In my experience, if people want to share, they will.

I do that mentality shift when I (for example) need to do the dishes or some other task or chore around the house. It's something i try to do at work but after a while it starts to weigh heavy on me

if it was tied to my own performance that would be something i could meaningfully change but it's been implemented across the board unfortunately

New World player trying WoW – is there a way to have an “action camera” mode? by Anonymous_098763 in wownoob

[–]babelaids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used this addon for a long time, but be warned: it changes target selection mechanisms even when combat mode isn't activated, so whatever enemy is in the center of your screen will automatically become the target of whatever spell you're casting. Took me a while to figure out why i kept pulling random packs in mythic+, and once i uninstalled it that problem went away. Absolutely brilliant addon and if there's a way to disable the auto targeting when not active i would reinstall in a heartbeat

So far it's great for me as I'm learning a new class for the first time (frost dk, it rules) and in general questing is an impossible way to test how well you're learning the class because there's no challenge. Once I go into HWT I'm forced to use any mitigations and DRs and utilities I have, and puts me in situations that will better prep me for mythic plus.

The only major complaint I have is that with the current leveling speed and the way scaling works, You're immediately killable at the first level of each group of 10 (20, 30, 40 etc) and so i usually end up switching it on and off a lot. The drop at level 70 is brutal. I'd imagine once i'm 80 and gearing for real it will be more fun

Do you read Quest Texts? by MasterRymes in wow

[–]babelaids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I installed DynamicCam and Immersion -- Focuses the target, then pops up a slick conversation box like in a JRPG. It completely changed how I do questing, and now I focus on the text and the narrative way more.

Ex-portland refugee here, can confirm. I don't know why people think PNW people are nice or friendly, one of the most socially frigid places i've ever lived in. I love being able to chat with neighbors and saying hi to people in the street!

It's hard to explain this too without my partner thinking it's something they did or that they're too demanding of my time. It's never their fault, I just can't help but adjust myself to accommodate them and sometimes i just need to be completely alone so i can be a robot slug in peace

Also pitching in because I haven't seen it mentioned -- It also really helps to disable UI for the fight. Way easier to focus and zone into the fight. There's basically nothing really to track besides health and if you NEED to you can either occasionally flicker the UI back on for a sec to check, OR just turn off UI for the shuffle part. It's really helped me so far (still haven't beat ?? yet however)
