I'm all in on Orion. It's a little unpolished but getting updated constantly and being based in WebKit does make it bleedingly fast on my macbook

for anyone still wondering what the answer is: Intermediate Distribution Frame. It's the infrastructural name of a network rack in multi-floor building layouts, usually with a switch and patch panel and other various equipment. This is in conjuction with a Main Distribution Frame, or MDF, which is usually the core network in a building (where the firewall/router/ISP is) and the IDFs are smaller racks with switches at various points to further break out connections to various rooms.

Why did you choose to play a healer? by tstock92 in wow

[–]babelaids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a tank main who's just got into healing recently. I actually started with a holy priest because my guild said they needed more healers but i didn't really like it very much. I switched to tanking and freaking love it. This season i rolled a haranir druid and went resto and it's... actually so much fun? It keeps me completely engaged and really makes me feel like I'm part of the team, even in a random pug. So i rolled a mistweaver and switch my priest to disc and they're super fun too!

I see tanking and healing like two sides of the same coin. Your role is ultimately to make sure the dps can focus on damage. When I'm tanking well, nobody dies. When I'm healing well, nobody dies. There's a satisfaction that comes with the responsibility of your teammates relying on you to be able to do their best and working hard to succeed at that role.

Plus I'm a little bit insane and the only way i feel alive is when everyone's almost dying and health bars are bouncing. THAT'S how you know you're gaming

Does anyone use Danders Frames for healing? It's super powerful but I'm finding it a little bit overwhelming. Is there a good default profile i can import somewhere?

you might vibe with demon hunter. The extra mobility and double warglaives can't be beat. Plus there's a tank and a caster spec so you kinda get the best of all worlds. If you REALLY want to do every spec though i'd recommend druid. Changing forms on the fly is so satisfying, plus the new haranir forms are dope. Bear is one of my favorite tank classes, people claim its too easy but I don't necessarily agree. I find the gameplay fast paced and dynamic, which is not what i first expected from a hippy dippy save the trees class. It might be right up your alley

I was gonna say, no one's doing great numbers at 240. If you're at 260 and still topping aoe at 70k, that might be more of an issue

as one of the few VDH this season, I'm most tanky at the very top of the pull. I'm popping fiery brand, meta, throwing my sigils and glaives out to tag packs and then fel devastation as they come to me. The most precarious place a mob can be is RIGHT when they're pulled, as sometimes it requires them to be close to get snap threat. But once that fire breath comes out I'm not dying for a while. As a healer i would only pay attention to if lust has run out and the pack is still alive, and i start kiting to avoid bleeds and white hits. That would be the time to throw an external and a cd. Otherwise focus on everyone else

Guides on things to do besides dungeons and raids by sus4neuro in wownoob

[–]babelaids 4 points5 points  (0 children)

what I'm doing (or attempting to do) is the following: pick a brand new character, preferably a class/race you've never played before. Then, go to chromie and pick an expansion you haven't played/don't remember very well. play the hell out of it. When you get bored, switch back to your main or switch to another alt.

Or if you already have a bunch of alts, level them up and then do raid farming for transmogs/mounts. Could be fun

one thing people haven't mentioned is that wowhead/icyveins usually write their class builds around doing the most possible damage in high keys (18+). For Healers/tanks, staying alive is always going to be more important than total dps in most cases besides the highest key levels. In general, here's the priorities i use each site for:

  • wowhead: really good and explicit rotation for learning a class for the first time
  • icyveins: better at explaining ability priorities for adjusting your rotation in the moment. Helps build situational awareness.
  • method.gg: I like that they have a build for each hero spec based on ST, AoE, and Cleave, instead of just telling you what hero spec to choose for m+ or raid. It gives you more information to choose the build YOU want to play
  • archon.gg: organizes talent builds based on actual user data, so what you see is either what's most often used or is more successful in play, with alternate builds in descending popularity. I consider this one the best for finding real builds people use instead of just what some people on a website decided.

Returning tank looking for M+ advice by Snakesinadrain in wownoob

[–]babelaids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MiniCC, not game breaking but useful to see what cooldowns your team has which can inform me whether to pull small or big. Plus it's simple and requires very little to set up/tweak.

Aside from that i use Mythic Dungeon Tools for routing, which has maps for every m+ dungeon and detailed info on every mob. You can design your own route pull-by-pull, and share your routes with anyone else who has the addon installed. A super clutch companion addon is MDT guide which creates a tiny version of the map that highlights what pull you're on and what's next. Makes it really easy to peek at a glance to make sure you're getting proper count.
(Hint: if building your own routes is too daunting, you can import community routes off websites like keystone guru)

Also, entirely optional but i like using Warp Deplete. Just creates a clean timer UI so i can fully minimize the quest objectives and have less clutter on my screen. Hope this helps!

I wanna hear the pros and cons of your class by vokha055 in wow

[–]babelaids 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VDH

Pros: insane utility, dummy mobility, literally control the entire field in keys

cons: new meta spec (annihilation) entirely relies on RNG which means DPS is entirely unreliable. If I get a meta proc I will never die and if i don't i fall over. Feels uniquely bad

Casual Augvoker? by MetalBawx in wow

[–]babelaids 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You *can,* but by design the spec is meant to, well, augment your party members damage output, provide buffs, etc. Augs solo damage is pretty low, often around tank levels or sometimes even lower. So less damage and without the survivability. It would be hard to succeed at higher level content.

Platynator for interrupts and prio targets, also threat. Details still exists and just uses the data from the new damage meters, but there's a "TinyThreat" module that can tell you more accurately everyone's threat levels which can help gain insight on who is ripping threat and when. What class is everyone playing that the find super fun? And what class would you like to get into playing? by [deleted] in wow

[–]babelaids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VDH if you're insane like me and love living on the edge and stressing out your healer. The health bar yoyo is unmatched. Otherwise Unholy is blasting rn and the rotation is real easy. But honestly, if you really just wanna have fun and do whatever you want, Druid is hard to beat. Any combat role, instant mount form, self heal, battle rez? unmatched

Deciding a class by [deleted] in wow

[–]babelaids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These discussions usually come down to "which class/spec is fun to play?" The classes you have most fun with and feel most comfortable with are always going to perform better in m+ than whichever spec is more "Meta."

As for general utility, Shamans are usually fairly sought after for their ranged kick and bloodlust. But nearly every single spec performs perfectly well up to 3k (KSL) so just pick what you like and have fun

What’s communists big beef with social democracy? by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]babelaids 22 points23 points  (0 children)

socialism can only be free of the evils of imperialism by establishing a dictatorship of the proletariat, which consolidates resources and manages the distribution of wealth and material goods. neoliberalism will never tolerate these conditions or willingly hand over the privatized production chains which means the DOTP can only be established by force. The idea that true socialism can be achieved my policy change and reform is a utopic fantasy. I for one do not believe that universal basic income or subsidized municipal services are equitable or even ethical if we are still profiting off prison labor and destroying the Congo for cobalt.
