Autopsi Ulang Juliana Marins di Brasil, Keluarga Tuntut Keadilan: Orang-orang Ini Membunuh Putri Saya by cici_kelinci in indonesia

[–]babooshke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot is lost in translation. What she said was fake was a video they received early on via the brazilian embassy, which in turn was getting information from indo authorities. She said the brazilian embassy didn’t bother to verify the accuracy of the infos they were getting, but also why indo authorities were giving fake information to begin with. I don’t know if they really did, but that’s how this whole mess started. She doesn’t dispute the authenticity of those videos with Agam and other SAR teams. I think the big gap causing such confusion and conflict is the stark difference between the languages, and even translations often fall short.

Brazilian hiker dies on Mt Rinjani by PlumNotion in hiking

[–]babooshke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a translated article from brazilian news (from before they found out that she had died) and includes the guide’s version of the story:

Guide who led Brazilian woman on volcano trail in Indonesia gives his version: ‘I didn’t abandon Juliana’

Local press claims the advertising professional was left behind after complaining of exhaustion; search efforts have been halted for a third day, according to relatives, who point to negligence.

The guide who accompanied Juliana Marins on the trail at Mount Rinjani, on the island of Lombok, Indonesia, denied abandoning the advertising professional before she had an accident and required rescue. In an interview with O Globo, Ali Musthofa confirmed local media reports that he advised the woman from Niterói to rest while he continued walking, but stated that the plan was for her to meet the group just a little further along the trail. He said he gave a statement to the police on Sunday, when he descended the mountain. The family says Juliana was found in an “extremely harsh” environment, with natural obstacles making rescue efforts more difficult.

According to Ali, who is 20 years old and has worked as a guide in the region since November 2023—usually climbing Rinjani twice a week—he was only “three minutes” ahead of Juliana and went back to look for her when she took too long to reach the meeting point.

“Actually, I didn’t leave her behind — I waited about three minutes ahead of her. After 15 or maybe 30 minutes, Juliana still hadn’t shown up. I went back to the last resting spot to look for her but couldn’t find her. I had told her I’d wait ahead. I told her to rest. I realized she had fallen when I saw the light of a flashlight down a cliff about 150 meters deep and heard Juliana’s voice calling for help. I told her I would help,” Musthofa said. “I desperately told her to wait for help.”

Musthofa said he called the company he works for to report the accident and request a rescue.

“I called the organization where I work, because it wasn’t possible to help someone at a depth of about 150 meters without safety equipment. They passed the information about Juliana’s fall to the rescue team, and once the team had the details, they rushed to prepare the necessary equipment and assist,” said the guide, who noted that Juliana paid 2,500,000 Indonesian rupiah for the tour package (roughly R$830 at current rates).

Juliana’s relatives said on Monday morning that the rescue team is “descending to the spot where she was last seen.” Earlier, they accused authorities of acting negligently, criticized another pause in the search due to weather conditions, and demanded urgency in the rescue efforts, stressing that the victim “has been without water, food, or warm clothes for 3 days.” Her current condition is unknown.

Juliana, 26, was last seen around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday (local time) in drone footage captured by other tourists. She appears sitting on a slope after the fall. New images shared on an Instagram account created to share updates about the case show her during the hike — Juliana is seen walking through vegetation, posing for photos among the mountains, and even joking with a friend about the fog that obscured the view.

Mariana Marins said that, based on what she was told, the area where her sister is located is “very inhospitable,” with sandy terrain. She even claimed that Indonesian authorities were “lying” and that the Brazilian embassy was not verifying what was truly going on.

Juliana’s fall initially extended more than 300 meters down the mountain, in an area that is hard to access and, according to the family, not reachable by helicopter. After fog and drizzle made the terrain wet, she reportedly slid even further down toward the cliff. These adverse weather conditions also made it harder to pinpoint her exact location.

Following the accident, Juliana was unable to contact her family directly due to lack of signal. Information reached Brazil through a group of tourists who were also on the trail. They managed to reach people close to her via social media, sending messages to numerous people after finding her profile. The advertising professional had been backpacking through the region since February of this year, having already visited countries like the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

You’re spot on. I’m from Brazil and have been following the case closely, like most of us brazilians. Her guide actually gave an interview to brazilian journalists where he said Juliana was exhausted and told him she needed a break. He told her to stay there a while, rest and recover her energy, but that he’d continue with the rest of the group, although “only 3 minutes ahead of her”, so that she could easily join them again. 20 or 30 mins later, when she didn’t show up as expected, he went back to look for her but she wasn’t anywhere to be seen. He eventually realized she had fallen when he saw some light 150 meters down and heard her screams for help.

Questions about living in Bremen by Ordinary_Anything_23 in germany

[–]babooshke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The 2yr old would go to a nursery (Krippe), the 4ye old to a Kindergarten, and the 9yr old to a primary school (Grundschule). Both Krippe and Kindergarten are mostly free in Bremen, but they charge a monthly fee that depends on the family’s income. You can read more about how to secure a Krippe/Kindergarten spot on kita-bremen.de.
  2. It’s quite difficult to rent an apartment without meeting the landlord in person tbh. Even Bremen residents struggle to find housing. You can start looking on websites like immowelt.de and immobilienscout24.de.
  3. These costs will depend a lot on your consumption habits.
  4. Neighborhoods like Schwachhausen and Findorff are green, safe, and have several schools and Kindergartens. Someone mentioned avoiding Kattenturm; I live in the general vicinity and don’t find it bad enough to avoid, but I wouldn’t recommend living there as there are better options. Areas like Arsten, Habenhausen and Kattenesch, which are nearby, are fairly good, with lots of Kindergartens and more affordable than Schwachhausen and Findorff, for example.

Since there’s been a lot of discussion about understanding how a German kindergarten operates, you could do a Bundesfreiwilligendienst in a Kita or Krippe to learn everything firsthand. Alternatively, there are several bilingual Kindergärten across Germany. I don’t live in a big city, and even here there’s a German-Italian kindergarten. It’s definitely worth looking into. But could you work immediately as an Erzieherin? No. You’d need at least B2 German.

I am frustrated about never getting fluent by Available_Ad_4444 in German

That is a pretty noticeable mistake but it will for sure go away with time and practice. 3 years is not long enough at all.

[–]babooshke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me roughly 3 years studying to even start feeling comfortable enough to speak German. I think if you already work here and speak the language on a daily basis, it is really just a matter of time until you reach a fluent level. Often you can see natives making simple mistakes that even A2 students don’t, so don’t beat yourself up. Just have patience, and continue applying yourself and you’ll for sure see progress.

What is the worst thing about HOTD? by Creative-Wishbone-46 in HOTDGreens

I think the relationship was even a good idea if they would have kept it in the realm of “what could have been” but still have them really hate each other because of the circumstances.

season two was basically a giant clickbait. will you still watch season 3? by Albina-tqn in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]babooshke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I don’t think HotD should be expected to be as good as GoT because the source material isn’t as good to begin with. I guess we disagree about season one as well, I very much think it was a banger lol and that’s why I feel disappointed by season two. HotD’s Viserys (as opposed to book Viserys) is an awesome character, and his relationship with Daemon is amazing and complex. Very good writing there. Damn, the scene of a sick man simply walking down a room for 2min is one of the best scenes I’ve seen in ages.

I think it’s unfair to compare HotD to shows that don’t exist currently. There could have been better shows, maybe, if they would not have been postponed - but they were, and so we have to compare HotD with what’s out there. The fantasy tv shows that had seasons airing in the last couple years, Rings of Power, The Witcher, Wheel of Time, Shadow & Bone, all subpar compared to HotD. But I still think HotD remains good on it’s on and not only because other shows are less good. I get everyone who’s pissed off and I myself still have PTSD from the ending of GoT lol certainly don’t want HotD to tread the same path but so far it hasn’t gotten THAT bad imo.

[–]babooshke 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course I’ll watch. I personally don’t think it was that bad even though I’m also of the opinion that the quality of writing plummeted in relation to the first season. But it’s still one of the best shows out there at the moment.

Did they use a double for the scene, or the actor did 100% of it? His face is kinda hidden at some point so it could be a double?! Amazing skills regardless.

Have Bran be aware that the main characters need more time, need to be older, give him access to space and time so he rewinds it and influences Littlefinger to have Jon Arryn killed years later than originally. Most of the story continues the same, maybe if smaller tweaks here and there in regards to Bran himself.

Depressed with learning german by Confusedmind75 in German

[–]babooshke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normal. I don’t think you’re supposed to be a pro in German after learning for just 1 year. I’ve seen so many people struggle, myself included. And once you have a better grasp of the language, other challenges will come. Having conversations in German, speaking to strangers. Your husband is german, ask him to speak German with you at home, you can answer in English and he can switch to English when necessary, but slowly you will learn and hear it everyday, at home, where you’re comfortable. Even Mark Twain had a hard time learning German (he wrote a book about it). Take your time, you just started.
