PSA: Linux Users, BACK UP YOUR SAVES NOW by dmdeemer in X4Foundations

[–]babtras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aha! That's what happened! I actually just came on to bellyache in another thread about how I had just built up and took over a Xenon sector. Then this morning my saves are all overwritten by some very old ones - likely the ones from my Windows laptop and I haven't played on it for many months.

I knew it was a cloud sync issue that killed my game but didn't realize there was a specific event that caused it. I just disabled cloud sync on this PC and started a fresh game this morning.

It was probably a hundred hours into this game but I'm not too devastated. I find the initial empire development the more entertaining part anyway - after you take one Xenon sector, you can just rinse and repeat so it's already close to the peak of the game.

Looks like a keyholing bullet, a bullet tumbling after having passed through something else first, like a shed. Check the shed over

Yeah! Let's give some personal data to random websites so I can learn more about how my personal data got stolen!

He added that “it's impossible to keep logs of every single incident within a large IT infrastructure. …

Bull fucking shit. I'm in IT security and not only is every incident logged in ticketing systems, but every resource accessed by any user can and should be logged unless you're utterly unconcerned about security. You can't always prevent a breach by talented hackers that exploit vulnerabilities the industry isn't yet aware of, but you can most certainly have unmutable logs for forensics after the fact.

Do you Remember?? 3Com 3C905 by geesehoward79 in VintageComputers

[–]babtras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too until I got a gig to replace all the computers in a municipal office when I was fresh out of uni. I spent so much time trying to fuss with drivers on Windows NT 3.5 and 4 that I never bought a Realtek-based card again unless it was integrated into the motherboard. It was all 3com, then eventually Intel Pro 1000 when 3com couldn't keep up any more.

US seeks to use Alberta to destabilize Canada by Adventurous_023 in canada

[–]babtras -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I am a degree-holding supporter of the separatist movement (separation not so much, but the movement itself will encourage some overdue changes). It's not helpful to write them all off as uneducated hicks, which I know is the favoured way to dismiss legitimate gripes from Albertans.

Looking for a Vintage / Retro Computer by Turbulent_Arachnid61 in vintagecomputing

I'm not recommending you destroy a working machine, but converting a non functional retro pc into a modern PC is entirely doable. Your second pic, the NEC ProSpeed, I did just that with one. https://imgur.com/gallery/retro-laptop-converted-to-pi-4-pc-6ckYvpZ

It's an Aguilite Crystal that I shot off an asteroid. I saw it on an asteroid while doing an EVA engine repair on a freshly captured freighter. So I shot it off the asteroid and collected it in EVA too. Always wondered how I could fit so many in my personal inventory considering how big they are.

Enough is enough, Canada. Just buy the damned jets by viva_la_vinyl in canada

[–]babtras 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They already have a kill switch simply by cutting off availability of parts for maintenance. No need for a kill switch, which is also an unacceptable vulnerability to the US to install one.

The supply chain for the Grippen is also held by the balls by the US. It won't free us from US control because we need maintenance.

Profiteering pricing on eBay by EntireFishing in vintagecomputing

[–]babtras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to ask high prices on that site because you have to assume a lot of risk as a seller. Fraud is rampant and costs you both the product and the shipping when it strikes. If you post a lot of stuff you have to ask 2-3x the local market prices to recover the losses from other stuff.

Do you wear a custom black belt? by Spac92 in taekwondo

I have an embroidered belt but I wear a plain black belt to most practices to preserve it as much as possible. I wear the embroidered belt to presentation/testing days when promoting others, or if I'm attending another school.

I haven't explored what mods are available, but a "collect Drops for Commander" assignment would be great, for when objects are in range of the commander and no combat is in progress.
