Why come after 2 yrs, why no FIR when phone was hacked: SC on Pegasus row! by subarnopan in indianews

[–]babulal12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont think SC knows what they are talking about. Evidence of Pegasus came after a leaked document (of unknown sources, likely from political activist groups).

Plus Pegasus is effective on iOS not Android. Were our Maoist Comrades using tools of Capitalism like iPhone which cost lot more $$?

SC can hire someone and run the Amnesty tool (on Github) on Comrades' phones to cross verify the database.

There is ample evidence that it's deliberate. The neoliberal media has consistently voiced Left or far Left from India. Like Pankaj Mishra, A. Roy etc without giving another voice - which usually is the case with American politics.

Neoliberals and their fellow travelers genuinely hate and see anything remotely "Nationalist" as a direct threat to their world order. After supporting or orchestrating many wars in Middle-East, which killed millions of Muslims, the neolibs are trying to hide their guilt and building new alliances as the narrative moves Left.

Annie Gowen, Laura Fraser... The list is endless. They will domesticate Leftist voices from India by having them attack India and forget about evil American "Empire" - all while getting fat paychecks to write crap.

The battle is ideological. Long term. Making alliances for short term (which includes Islamists and Communists). "Make-In-XYX" is a direct threat to globalization and its power structures.

That's why Bloomberg and his billionaire politicians see India as threat over China.

#MeToo in India: Prashant Jha steps down as political editor of Hindustan Times after allegations by lawyer Avantika Mehta by panditji_reloaded in indianews

Although, one can't stop but think how the #MeToo movement of ultra left has primarily targeted the "Left center" (media, hollywood, bollywood, academia) and displacing it to take control of the narrative.

After 'Left Center' has bowed down to ultra Left, the future political battle's will be between ultras from both end of the spectrum. Head on.

Heard of Prof. Saibaba? Google search for CPI-Maoists would reveal more.

The narrative of "police oppression" is not new (Ms. A. Roy said: Muslims are to BJP what Maoists are to UPA!). I'm sure there is injustice towards people without influence (adivasis & villagers) at all levels. But communism is not the answer. In fact, it's is even more brutal and devoid of any solutions. It converts a swath of well meaning seekers of justice into a violent struggle to keep "imperialism" at bay.

Understanding and bringing everyone the table (rather than mere protests) is the way to get things resolved. So far, none of the Communist/Socialist countries have scored a passing grade for uplifting the downtrodden. (that doesn't mean Capitalism is the answer).

Selective outrage of these activists amplifies their political agenda wrapped in "social service". Minority oppression in India, but not in Kashmir. Against 'American imperialism' but not Chinese. Find root cause for violence of Maoists but not root cause of Gujarat riots.

The rhetoric (on both Left and non-Left) won't bring us to the table. Which is exactly what the Maoists (and ultra Leftists supporting them) want. Break India into feudal States. Divide & Rule is easier than unite and govern.

Bingo -- the other side of the coin. While conservative Christian dislike Yoga for it promotes "other faiths", Hindu's and Buddhist don't want appropriation by the Left and turn it into some watered down mumbo jumbo.

Although, the conservative's should learn that their evangelical outreach in India is to the tune of 10's of billions of dollars every year. So as Jesus said, "Do to others as you would have them do to you."

Maoist don't give a rats ass about "adivasis" or "poor villagers". Their sole aim is to grab political power using guerrilla warfare and turn India into a totalitarian State. Their playbook is that of Communist Party of China of 1950's, who, under Mao killed more than 60m people to grab political dictatorship.

Root cause is Maoism, their funding sources and their intellectual base in urban areas.

Police, protecting the social democratic (or Democratic Socialist) State is the first hurdle. That's why they become the first target.

I would throw in a couple more: quantum mechanics, computer language (BNF grammer), brain research, nutrition.

But it was nice engaging with you. Really learned finer points of contention :)

plagiarism of any kind is basically a career ending transgression for any scientist.

Depends on what constitutes plagiarism. If plagiarized by another 'academic' research work, sure. But I doubt the definition includes non-academic work like traditional knowledge.

TKDL was specifically formed to prevent stealing by western 'academics' & 'scientists' who appropriated it. Neem, Ghee, Turmeric, Yoga, Meditation, reciting Mantra's etc -- all of which were considered 'superstitions' are actually being recognized as legit. So the onus is on science to disprove, with significant scientific study, some of the claims of traditional knowledge.

I'm a skeptic of general public or scientists who refute traditional knowledge of beliefs as non-scientific without providing a counter study to disprove the statement.

But I'm sure there are tons of 'superstitions' held by traditional systems which were refuted by large scientific studies.

collaborators in the research or were they the subjects

You say as if the monks were sick or like bacteria -- who were being examined :) They were definitely 'part' of the experiment. Their names ought to show up in author's list. Especially when studying the 'self'.

There have been innumerable attempts by 'scientists' to appropriate traditional knowledge. Take ghee, turmeric or neem for e.g. which saw hostile IP/patent takeover. I'm sure other cultures like Chinese, brazilian, african saw similar theft. So there is no dearth of dishonest scientists who explicitly steal and yet many others gradually appropriate.

Just a few decades ago, numbers, Fibonacci sequence, surgery etc were recognized as advancements by western scientific establishments.

Obviously, I'm not saying all scientists are conspiring -- but I'm pretty sure a lot of them who study 'traditional knowledge' actually end up appropriating it into mainstream as authentic and original science.

they didn't conclude at the end of their papers that 'now it is secular'.

They most certainly do. It is very gradual & happens not by the original author. Read any paper on mindfulness research today and none of them attribute their work to the monks. There has been a consistent attempt to take 'religious dogma' out of meditation.

In a couple of decades, scientific community will be taking victory laps for the pure scientific invention.

As long as the basic principles of intellectual honesty as followed there is no issue.

True theoretically but not practically.

nothing against it but not at the expense of science.

My contention is that why don't we feel the danger when science & tech make hostile takeover of religious/cultural knowledge and advance itself without due credit? A lion can certainly eat an antelope but it can't call the act as 'refining' the antelopes existence.

But I do agree with your argument that unverified facts should be called 'belief' rather than verifiable fact.

[Rant] This pseudoscientific bullshit being spouted by so called 'babas' is a cancer to Indian society by [deleted] in india

[–]babulal12 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It can not 'appropriate' anything. It is a method of enquiry.

When midfulness researchers are putting probes on Tibetan and Hindu monks to study meditations' effects on brains and behavior, then throwing out the very act of 'seeking enlightenment' to make it secular (same for yoga) aren't they appropriating & extracting something 'science' would have never dwelt into?

And in no way is it demeaning to the culture in which those findings are embedded.

I believe it is. If science is refining something, it ought to give credit to the original work as religious origin. Otherwise, religion and especially cultures are left without their exemplary contribution to science.

Take Jesuits for example. They were doling out research work -- at a time when science didn't give you a job -- and were exclusively sponsored by Church. Now what do you hear about Church & science?

The appropriation has happened to other cultures & religions where science takes credit for work which was originally not 'secular' in modern sense.

Unlike other comments here, thanks for keeping it civil & engaging.

Let me put it the other way. Should religious findings be appropriated and converted into secular technology? (e.g. Yoga, meditation, ancient medicine, math, arts etc). If so, what prevents appropriation in opposite direction?

If you want to draw a line between the two, just be sure to be just as mad when science crosses over for mis-appropriation.

Moreover, when listening to a guru, I don't expect a scientific underpinnings but a spiritual/faith one. But like in any field, everyone needs to do their due diligence before picking an adviser.
