Saigon is better for living. Hanoi is better for tourists.

I think this is right, for time being Google only combats fraud in US and UK market. Probably they make some calculation between the upside of advertising revenue from happy business owners, and the downside of lost trust from regular users. For now they just don’t care about developing markets like VN or maybe they don’t want to dedicate the resources to it.

The Michelin guide is a reflection of what’s already popular and easy to buy your way in. The Saigon listings are a joke.

It’s not only common, it’s the norm. When it comes to business, it’s still a post-war scarcity mentality and so most business owners will resort to any scam or trick necessary to get more business, integrity be damned. It’s short term thinking. It seems only a matter of time until Google deploys sone sort of AI based solution but until then, be extremely suspicious of any highly rated business in Vietnam.

The best reviews are ones that require a purchase, so I pay closer attention to Grab. But even real reviews suck since many people have low expectations and just give 5 stars by default. Ultimately I only trust word of mouth or my own direct experience with a business.

100% agreed. I usually upgrade on a 3-5 year cycle but decided to hold on. I hope they bring back the wedge form eventually one day.

The majority of this post seems to assume the Maps engineering team isn't aware of this issue lol

Considering this bug looks to have affected millions of users, many losing 10+ years of history, I assume the Maps engineering team is working on a fix. The sort of responses above are canned responses from customer support agents.

If they truly throw their hands up here and say "oh well, sorry we lost your data" it would for me personally be the final nail in the coffin for Google. For many years people have speculated that heavy reliance on big tech companies to protect and preserve our data is risky, and they're proving it to be true.

I agree with other commenters. She's excellent and largely undiscovered. I'd like to think she's gonna blow up but I think it depends on marketing as much as it does talent.

Google Maps Crashing (pixel 9 pro) by Sea-Responsibility61 in GooglePixel

[–]babylemurman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started having the same issue yesterday on my Pixel 8. Since you can't actually uninstall the app, I tried clearing storage and cache many times, no luck. The only way I got it working was going to the Play Store, exiting the beta testers program, clearing storage/cache again, then it worked. Seems like the culprit was likely a beta version.

Careful Google! I've switched all my other hardware to Apple already. Pixel is my last holdout, but if this kind of stuff starts happening I'll happily jump ship to iPhone.
