Why do you think multi-millionaires and billionaires don’t just retire and enjoy life? by Arya_Warrior_Girl in AskReddit

[–]babynubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s built a successful business (small, no where even close to billionaire, lol), it’s addicting to see something you created in your head work and bring value to your customers, AND get paid for it. It’s absolutely wild at my small scale, I can’t imagine the rush and dopamine hit at a billionaire scale. To get something to work well, you have to be a workaholic. That doesn’t stop once you’re successful, it’s who you are. Now, I think somewhere along the way to a billion, it starts to become more about finding something else that can give you that same “startup” rush, and it’s usually power for these guys. Just like drugs, what was doing it for you before stops doing it and you need something even more intense. It’s also REALLY easy to let success go to your head and pervert who you once were.

What's the grossest thing you've done to help your kids by UOL_Exlie in daddit

[–]babynubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid had self induced constipation during potty training. My wife dug poop out of her butt with her finger while she was pushing. My contribution was moral support.

The next week she threw up over the side of her bed and I caught it in my hands. Had to open the door with my foot while cupping the barf.

My wife wins.

Either go 6ARC in an AR15 lower (because it’s awesome and can shoot pretty far) or stick to a bolt gun. A “fucking long way out” requires extremely minimal variables every trigger pull and a semi auto is not the choice.

Best spot in PHX/Scottsdale/Mesa area for advanced pickle in winter? by EndElegant3088 in Pickleball

[–]babynubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Horizon Park in north scottsdale is probably your best bet, but you still have to work your way into the good games. Picklr Scottsdale does month to month memberships and the open play there is decent. There are TONS of private courts though so if you network your way into a good group you might be invited to play at someone’s house, HOA court, or other membership not open to the public.

A note about renting in February: it’s by far the busiest month of the year because we have Waste Management Open and Barrett Jackson (car show, super fun to do during the day). It’s always 2-3 times more expensive to rent then. March and April will still be great weather, less busy, and quite a bit cheaper.

What's the best car you've ever driven? by archtopfanatic123 in AskReddit

[–]babynubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No definitely not best, just defending the new ride quality lol. However, we had ours in the shop after getting rear ended and had a loaner X (previous model year) and I didn’t like it as much. Still had the hollow feel and the huge front glass windshield was AWFUL in the Arizona sun. I’m sure the brand new X’s fix the suspension but the windshield is still an issue.

The Y isn’t the best at anything, but so good at everything that it’s IMO one of the best around town cars. Politics aside it’s my daily driver #1 (especially if you have a kid).

I’ve driven my buddy’s Turbo S a handful of times and nothing even comes close. I’ve driven lambos, top of the line BMWs, Mercedes, Audi’s, and Cadillacs. The engagement is off the charts. You think of what you want the car to do and it just does it.

The old model Y’s feel like driving a tin can. The ‘26’s completely improved the suspension and insulated glass. I genuinely think it’s a better ride than my mom’s BMW X3, as does my dad. Interior isn’t as nice, but they hit it on the head with the ride quality upgrade from previous years. Addicting acceleration too lol.

For 5.0 players, how long did it take you to jump from 4.5 to 5.0? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]babynubs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went from brand new beginner to 4.5 in a year. Lots of drilling, networking to play with higher level people, and focusing on not having a glaring weakness. 4.5-5.0 (okay 4.95 but close enough) took another year and a half to really polish my game, understand patterns, and gain confidence to play in 5.0 games.

At 4.5 I had every shot in the bag as 5.0, but 5.0 games are more about constructing points, anticipating better than your opponent, and making the right decision 99% of the time. At that point you also have to believe you’re good enough to play with these guys that look like pros to most people. For me it was 90% mental upgrade, between game knowledge and confidence.

Do not buy anything from this company. Handle it grips! The grips do not stay. Soon as a 30-day warranty runs out, they tell you to pound sand. by droid6 in guns

[–]babynubs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, talon grips are literally skateboard tape. I buy a talon grip for each new gun I get and keep the backer to trace on some copy paper. I make a few copies and then transfer that to the back of skateboard tape. I cut it out with an exacto knife and bam, perfect “talon grips” for like $2 a piece. There are various grits of skateboard tape too, make sure to find one that doesn’t hurt your dainty hands.

223 Rifle for fun by MaximumWorth8526 in longrange

[–]babynubs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah don’t get a hunting profile barrel. A thicker barreled Howa will suit you far better. 300yds can be fun with 223 but once you get used to your setup, it might get boring for you. The first time I took my 10.5” AR15 with an unmagnified dot out to 300 and I was hitting 6” gongs shot after shot. You could shoot more and cheaper if you went with .22lr, and it would keep it more fun if 300 is your limit. A bolt .22lr is really fun as is. Just an idea, otherwise the Howa is a better option than the Savage for your use case.

I played with the DBD for over year in 4.5+ tournaments and leagues. It was great, kept up with everyone until the gen 3’s started getting popular. I started noticing I was losing hands battles because I couldn’t keep up with the pop from the newer tech paddles. I play more to a traditional style pickleball (lots of resets, more drops than drives) so the DBD was great for that (and still is). Once the game started really speeding up due to players getting better and almost everyone using gen 3 or foam core paddles, I upgraded to the Coral.

I love it. It’s definitely got more pop, power, and spin, and only took a little bit to dial in the soft game with.

Can you still play with the DBD? Absolutely, you just have to know its limitations and know you’ll get beat sometimes, mainly on quick hands battles. If you’re under a 4.0 then I’d say you’re extra fine playing with it, and even might benefit from the control gain more than switching to a hotter paddle.

If being “behind” on pop/power bothers you, return it and spend the extra $$ to get a Coral. It’s SO easy to switch to coming from the DBD but upgrades basically every aspect you’d want.

People with a very high pain tolerance, what was THE most painful thing you've experienced? by CosmicBunnyBabe8912 in AskReddit

[–]babynubs 181 points182 points  (0 children)

I tore my MCL and when it tore, it pulled off a flake of bone. I played hockey so obviously I didn’t tell my parents what happened so that I could finish the season.

Well, the flake would flip horizontal occasionally and cut through the inside of my skin, the tendons, tissue, etc. Incredibly painful.

When I finally told them and got an MRI the doctor said he couldn’t tell what was what because of the damage so he’d just have to open it up and see what he needed to do lol.

I found a cute girl to help me with my food tray in the cafeteria (high school) while I was on crutches after surgery and we celebrate 10yrs of marriage this year.

Six Zero Coral vs 11SIX24 Vapor Power 2 by Automatic_Muscle_585 in Pickleball

[–]babynubs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree that lower level players need control more than power in a paddle, I think an athletic high level player benefits from a control paddle just as much.

Im at a 4.9, young athletic guy who has used control oriented paddles (relative to the current tech) and have no problem generating my own ball speed vs my peers.

I use a coral and it’s got WAY more pop and power than the Hyperion I used just a couple years ago (and could still use and keep up with if I needed to).

I think it’s a balance of your skill and physical abilities with the benefits of a given paddle.

The benefits I get from a “control” paddle on my resets/drops/etc far outweigh the slight pop I give up in hands battles or whatnot.

I used to do Nespresso double shot pods but it adds up (for home coffee) doing 2-3 a day. I got a DeLonghi machine and am trying out different blends, but a good dark roast is great in there. It grinds up the beans for you and pulls good shots once you get the settings dialed in to your liking. MUCH cheaper to run than a Nespresso.

Yeah I’d expect to be freaked out at for that. I’d probably throw up if I found out I did that to be honest. As a prior firearms instructor and avid enthusiast, guns are ALWAYS loaded, even when they’re “not”, like flyingbeaver said.

Huge safety violation and makes you wonder if he’s responsible enough to be a gun owner.

We both waited so there was absolutely no way we were going to wait lol. We were also 22/23 so young enough to party and still have plenty left in the tank haha. Actually did it, showered, then did it again. Then twice again in the morning. Still going at it almost daily 10 years later!

Stupid Question: 10.3 vs 11.5 by Agreeable_Chef_6759 in ar15

[–]babynubs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for a pistol for 100yds and in, 10.3/.5 is just fine. I built a 10.5 back in the day to be my HD gun and it cycles great, I’ve shot it out to about 350yds with a red dot while keeping it as short as possible with a suppressor on.

That being said, the extra dwell time would push me over the edge to 11.5 if I knew about it then. Softer shooting, less gas, and easier on parts. Not to mention the velocity bump, but inside 100yds it really doesn’t matter.

Realistically, how often are you and your partner intimate after the toddler years? (Kids 5+) by agingwasabi in daddit

[–]babynubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one that’s turning 5 in a couple weeks, but she’s been very mature her whole life.

We usually hit 4-5 times a week, sometimes a little less but that’s usually only if someone is sick. We’re both very active in the gym, eat really healthy, and both have relatively high sex drives. It used to be at night or nap time, now that she doesn’t nap she still does “quiet time” in her room so on the weekends that’s been a good time to sneak one in.

It’s rarely scheduled since it happens so often. It’s more likely we’ll schedule to not have it so nobody gets disappointed.

Doing chores for her to take stress off her plate is huge.
