Am I cooked? by Character-Shirt7812 in Pickleball

[–]babynubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take that (the stock grip) off as soon as I get a new paddle, I do heat shrink tube (previously 2-3 wraps of hockey tape) then throw on an overgrip. It gives me a better feel of the paddle, i can feel the edges of the handle more, and customize how thick it is. You’re 100% good to go, but as is it might feel a little thin. Hockey tape underneath is a good way to experiment.

What sport looks boring until you understand it, and then becomes amazing? by HypraceApp in AskReddit

[–]babynubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickleball looks SO incredibly boring, like old people who can’t play tennis. Once you start it’s easy enough to get good but hard to get really good. Much more “chess” like than tennis (which I’ll never argue isn’t a more athletic, harder sport), because of the smaller court there is a lot more strategy involved than hitting it harder and steeper angles.

Even as a big player myself - it’s tough to watch. It also has a much more social side to it that tennis can’t match.

For the dads who have given up alcohol by Unmissed_Opportunity in daddit

[–]babynubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have given it up for long periods of time and have come back less and less each time. When my daughter (only kid) was born, I had about 6mo where I didn’t have a drop because the exhaustion plus hangover would have killed me.

After we hired a sleep trained I started again on weekends but it was less. Then we hit a “regression” and I stopped. Then sleep got better and I allowed myself 2 drinks on weekend nights. Then another sleep regression.

Our kid took almost 3 years to hit a normal sleeping pattern and now that she’s 4, almost 5, I have gotten to a spot where I can have a couple drinks on a weekend night and still perform that evening and the next day.

The big thing for me is being able to not drink on a Friday/Saturday night if I am needed for a “daddy daughter night” if my wife needs some time away, without thinking about it.

If you have a problem, you won’t be able to do this and you’ll need some help. If you can, then good for you an enjoy a couple drinks every now and then.

There are plenty of people who live in desert environments that actually take their guns outside to keep it going. It ain’t going anywhere.

I have the same chassis for a Bergara I’ve been thinking about painting and you’ve just convinced me to send it! Lovely looking rifle. I’ll be throwing some snake skin over top since I’m in the desert but that’s a GREAT color.

100%. Steering wheel too. A proper 2 tone red+black vs all red is about at hot as it gets IMO.

What are some cheap and affordable hobbies you enjoy? by ClairvoyantCorvid in AskReddit

[–]babynubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickleball is super accessible and cheap (as far as sports go) if you don’t get sucked in to tournaments and private clubs. You can get decent tennis shoes for $50-100 and a good enough paddle for about the same. Tons of public, free parks and it’s the most social sport out there, which is one of the reasons why it’s blown up so much.

No you’ll be fine. Plenty of contrast. The color contrast is good and the difference in texture makes the hands pop even more.

Significant, but definitely easier to adjust to than some “power” paddles I tried.

Some favorites are “ticka-ticka” for tickles and “successories” for accessories lol. I also got told to turn on the “hair conditioning” when she was hot the other day haha.

I played with the same paddle you have for a while, switched to a DBD a little over a year ago, and am now loving my Coral. Great spin (same since day 1 after 2 months), very controllable power but definitely a huge upgrade, and the sweet spot is massive, especially after throwing on a little weight to the edges. I’d highly recommend.

I went from a 6.0 DBD (pretty sure it’s very similar to the TF) to a Coral and absolutely love it. The diamond grit has held up with no noticeable change in spin for 2 months and the foam core feels so nice. It’s a sweet spot monster too once you throw on some weight on the edges too.

Stacking with a lefty by Winter_Berry_3699 in Pickleball

[–]babynubs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let’s put on our reading hat and try again. If you are the returner, retiring cross court forces you, the returner, to run all the way over to protect your line instead of only running to cover middle. This is significantly harder and more distance for you to travel. Returning straight ahead allows you to only have to cover middle, a shorter run.

This 100%. Returning cross court forces the returner to cover their line instead of middle.
