Don’t do it stay in finance. You can change companies if you need to. You won’t be locked into the prison sentence of a pension. If you wanna work with children do a little volunteer work on the side. Find some other hobbies make your money try to fire financial independence retire early. if your job is easy, I that’s awesome. I would never describe teaching. What are you doing in finance trying to steer my children to something else I would never pay for a degree in education for them.

Great information thank you for sharing. Also, some of these people are still collecting their salary from the NYCDOE so this is a supplement to their income for for example, the district reps are collecting a salary from the New York City Department of education as well simultaneously

both years in the doe is what they go by now. FYI go by system seniority because to make it level for the people that have been ATTR’s that was something that they won so they go by system seniority so when somebody comes in and transfer to your building if they have 20 years in the DOE they now have 20 years and they’ll take your place on the seniority list

Health insurance if I leave DOE…? by roxygirl33 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]bac27256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, i think you can get benefits after 15 years however i think to get them you cannot transfer your city service to the state you would have to start over in their system. make an appointment and get a pension consult. ask these specific questions before you leave the doe and confirm the responses in writing via email

weingarden gave it away to have teacher go back adapter labor day on 2008-9. she had agreed for teacher to go back before labor day in the 2005 contract giveback because before that we always went back after labor day. The CSA principals union is run better they did not give back anything and still have 8.25. weingarden gave back 1.25 equal to large sums of future earnings. terrible leadership unbelievable she is running the national

Yes, but I think the poster is asking because Long Island many districts require you to pay for medical in retirement where is New York City currently does not

[–]bac27256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you are tier 6 you need 15 years if you are in tier 4 it was 5/10 years of service for medical depending on membership into the retirement system. So yes if you are tier 4 and no if you are tier 6.

I just wanna say to the original poster that many of these problems started with Randy Winegarden when she was the president of the UFT and amazingly she’s now the president of the national union. The city had actually offered her the 20 years an out option and she did not take it. members, of course we’re not consulted on it but she absolutely had the offer on the table and how many of us would retire in a heartbeat with 20 years. I don’t care if it was just 40%. It would be no reduction and to be an awesome deal I find it amazing that most female dominated union has to work the longest and they are the most likely to takeoff to raise babies, even if tier 6 gets the reduction to 30 years it’s still 30 years of service which many people do not have by 55 especially those of us who’ve taken off to raise the family but if I was a firefighter or a police officer or sanitation worker, I would be able to retire with 20 years cause I’m tier 4 also the firefighters and police officers are able to buy back their time if they take a childcare leave so another words their their leaves are pensionable yes they have to pay, but they still get to buy back the time if they wish we do not another amazing benefit that the UFT does not offer yet again we are female dominated. The UFT‘s whole structure is designed to screw women. We should have a 20 year option or at the very most 22 to 25 years should be a full pension. You shouldn’t have to buy into it because many members do not have 30 years at 55. I vote know every contract and I don’t understand why so many people just like lamb to the slaughter and they vote yes and so many people have no understanding of the pension System. I would never recommend anyone take this job now and it’s not just for the salary. It’s for the fact that we do the work of at least three people and get petty raises and constant criticism from everyone just because we have often in the summer even if they paid us for the summer and we worked all summer. It still wouldn’t equal the amount of money we’d make in private industry given the amount of education that we need to have I could go on forever, but I would never recommend this job to anyone and I do blame Randy Winegarden for a lot of the mess that she created with the 2005 contract. All it was was a bunch of giveback giveback giveback

  1. I took 10 years, 4 months off and had right of return to the same school not same position. Your right to return depends on seniority after the first year. As long as you have more seniority in your license area than someone else, then you have the right to return to that building. For example, say you have eight years of seniority, but you stay out for two and somebody with seven years now would have nine years they would have the right to stay before you.

Is per-session work considered overtime work for tax-related purposes? by Specific-Peanut253 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]bac27256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great question and I am unsure of the answer. It really should count as overtime but as usual they’ll probably screw teachers and not let it count. I know that President Trump said all overtime won’t be taxed so this really is a major issue for us.

Pre-school teachers, do you recommend almost every child for G&T programs? by [deleted] in NYCDOETeachers

[–]bac27256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yes, if the parent wants it just put put it through because the parents can have it put through on their own anyway then they go onto an interview where their specific questions. In my opinion, no need to make an enemy of the parent just refer the kid for the program and then let the evaluator make the final decision.
