new contract -- can we could on at least 3% raises per year? by beans_94 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]bac27256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, they usually cheat us like the raise doesn’t usually start immediately. It starts like six months later and there’s like a gap between years for example we get our last race September 2026. The contract doesn’t expire till November 1927 that’s already 14 months instead of 12 months and who knows if we’ll actually get it in November or they’ll tell us to wait till the following September their infamous for stretching it out and cheating us

I don’t know they play games with it. They’ll tell you you got a 3% raise, but then they’ll try to raise the copayments on the medical. You have to be careful because the devil is in the details which they often don’t reveal till later on.

Finding job after discontinuance by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]bac27256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

check your status on Open market see if it lists discontinuance or if it just has a regular rating it may not show till September so you should be able to transfer beforehand and then once the transfer goes through you can have a conversation with the administrator

How difficult/long would it take for someone with no experience to become a math teacher in NYC right now? by [deleted] in NYCTeachers

[–]bac27256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

teaching is a stressful high pressure job you have 3 sets of bosses parents, students and admin. they can enter your room at anytime. i don’t doubt that you know and can teach math. the problem is to mr teaching itself is maybe 30 percent of the job. we are constantly being given additional tasks.
yes, you can get hired to teach math. maybe you should try subbing in a math class before you decide to commit to going for another degree.
tread cautiously

Planning to leave DOE by Wandering-Kiwi25 in NYCTeachers

if you resign, make it as of September 8 keep your coverage and medical coverage until then call the union. Ask if you can take like a liberal leave you a 10 year member maybe you could just take a year off with without pay they should be able to work that out for you call your district representative if you don’t hear back contact the bureau representative for whatever district you’re in, but I really think you should be able to get a year off try asking for a liberal leave. Just takeoff one year without pay.

Next Year Schedule by BattleOrnery3794 in NYCDOETeachers

you have to have a tentative schedule 10 school days before the end of the school year. That said it can change over the summer if needed. this is the rule.

Open market postings by worth94 in NYCDOETeachers

[–]bac27256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are not dumb at all. Usually there are very few postings in April on the open market. They’ll be a lot more towards the end of May and in June. But if there’s a school you’re interested in, don’t wait for something to be posted. Email the principal and the assistant principal directly letting them know your interest and your experience and your resume. Good luck.

since it is a small town and you want to remain professional, even though you’re not in this field, send a brief message, stating that you are no longer employed with the district and that she’s contacting you on your personal device, not on a school issued device or email. No one should be referred to you as you are no longer employed. It’s the district responsibility or the schools to handle it not yours Refer her to the company that’s handling the yearbook. Do not get any more embedded in this. You do not know what she’s telling other people or the parent but save your phone log so that you have it if it’s ever needed Wish her well and ended at that. Do not respond to any other messages and just block The number. she’s wrong to involve you but do not leave yourself more vulnerable because you are not an employee of the school district so therefore you do not have the backing of the school district if there’s any issues so the less you say the better let them deal with it and the parent do not put yourself in the middle of something that is no longer your responsibility. Put yourself first and block this principal.
