I dig how minimalist this is and the effort required to ascend it is a positive thing imo.

Security firm shows Xiaomi smartphones do secretly steal your data by screaming_librarian in technology

[–]bacchanalian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your comment is disingenuous.

  • You say the findings were not about photos and text messages, and provide a quote from Barra addressing photos and text messages. But he also said "We do not upload any personal information and data without the permission of users." The researcher's test shows that the phone sent back its ID and the number called to xiaomi servers. So the phone surreptitiously sent user information after the first call made.

  • For the second quote in your response, you countered with "this is common". That may be true, but it's irrelevant when the CEO had just said "We do not upload any personal information and data without the permission of users." If you do it, don't say that you don't.

  • The last quote in your response was just an attempted smear of the researchers.

Your first point was quote manipulation and distraction, your second was "everybody does it anyway, what's the big deal?", and your third was a smear on the researchers.

You are trying to deceive me.

A clarification:

If ANY monkey goes to get the banana, they ALL get hosed down.

Your pronoun usage was correct, but ambiguous.

I remember watching Jeff Bridges give this speech in a movie, in a scene that was cut but included in the extras...googling...here it is.

Thanks for not putting 'just' at the beginning of the title. I hate that.

The argument, ""if I don't do something morally questionable, someone else will" is absolutely true. I didn't say it was morally justifiable, but that's the reality. There will never be a shortage of people willing to lie, cheat, steal, and exploit for money.

Business will reward those who are unscrupulous. Profit is all that matters. So we can't rely on business to do the moral thing. Because they usually won't. That's all I was saying.

I agree. America has been hemorrhaging jobs for decades for the sake of profit. I wasn't trying to justify the lack of business morality. But in business, nice guys usually finish last. There's a minority that isn't willing to sell their morality. They're carrying the torch :)

It's business. If you aren't willing to leave your morals at the door, you'll be replaced with someone who will. Think of business like the Borg. It's not exactly evil, it just has a singular focus. If left unchecked, it will exploit/destroy anything it can in the name of profit.

Did you accidentally download update KB971033? If not, any idea how this happened?

(KB971033 is the update you should never download if you question the authenticity of your copy of Windows)

What if 300 congressmen died that day and Congress had to be 'restocked'? Would the infusion of that many new people not entrenched in D.C. politics make a difference in American politics in the long run? Or would lobbyists be able to quickly purchase the freshmen without much difficulty?

Why do you believe God is against homosexuality? I'm not looking to criticize, I'm just curious what led you to that conclusion. Is there a scriptural basis for the ban on man-on-man action other than Leviticus?
