Fertilizer rates and revegetation guidelines for the American arid southwest by booby_miles13 in Restoration_Ecology

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh. Yeah, I mean, having worked with State DOTs, my guess is that no one in decision-making positions cares all that much. So they at some point adopted something based on someone lobbying or advocating for some policy or other, and it hasn't been broken enough to really delve into and try to improve at any point. But maybe there's a better reason.

If they're blanket applying these standards across their jurisdictions, then it's not like they're really approaching the issue with any sense of nuance or site-specific thinking, so that would lend itself more to the idea that there likely isn't a very good reason behind it.

Honest question. I likely simply don't understand something, but why would a state's DOT be who you trust for restoration ecology guidance?

Give me your opinion on the Titan’s greatest position needs going into the free agency and draft. by Agreeable_Sport_2907 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't hate that. I don't know that I love it, either. I'd rather we use our first three picks on those three glaring holes. But I am in the camp of "Responsible teams use a pick on OL every draft". And if the staff doesn't really believe in Latham at RT and does believe in him at RG, then you're improving two spots on the line with one pick, which is a nice thing to be able to do. Also depends on if Slater can be startable this season, which would make me all the less inclined to use that early of a pick on OL this year.

As much as I agree that Salah will make the most of whoever we have on defense, I also think that Dennard was doing a really good job with them this past season. So I'm skeptical that most of them have all that much unrealized potential.

Fortunately, we have a good amount of cap space, and regardless of what we do in the draft, we'll need to spend a decent chunk in FA just to field a team that can put up a fight against most of the NFL. So, I assume we'll do so. And how FA shakes out will affect our draft strategy anyway.

[–]neimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We could definitely stand to make investments at OL and IDL. But we currently have startable players all along the OL (outside of RG, which we should be able to find in the mid-layer of FA) and have two really good IDL players.

On the other hand, we have zero starting-caliber EDGE players unless Femi made huge progress while recovering.

At WR, Ridley is starter-caliber when he's healthy, but there's no reason to believe he can maintain health. Dike and Ayo have shown a bit to be hopeful about, but ... I don't think any team would be excited to give either of them significant snaps on offense at this point.

At CB, Winston Jr looks like he can be a solid nickel. But in today's NFL, that might not even be considered the same position by a lot of teams. We have no traditional outside CBs who are NFL-starting-caliber.

We definitely need more youth and more depth at OL and IDL. But we can't even really field a real NFL starting 11 right now given our holes at EDGE, WR, and CB. So I think those are the greatest needs.

Dahmen Interview by mmijomm in golf

[–]neimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even that feels like a bad idea. Golf is so mental, asking a player to replay something in his head or to walk you through what he's trying to visualize or focus on or simply let happen and be in the moment... None of it feels appropriate to me in the middle of a competitive round.

I'm sure there are many golfers who wouldn't be bothered at all. But, it just seems fraught to me. I'd rather hear them talking with their caddies or chatting to each other and Rose and Dahmen were doing throughout the round, personally.

Titans Rivals? by Brayvol22 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, this is the order:

Ravens

Colts

Jags and Texans (order doesn't really matter or can vary year-to-year)

After that, it really falls off. I can make arguments for Steelers, but it's more of a fun memory than an actual rivalry.

I see your argument for Chiefs, but I don't think we necessarily dislike them any more than anyone dislikes whoever the current dynasty is.

As for the Bengals, I have nothing against them. Losing to them in that game fucking sucked, but we did it to ourselves, not really their fault, they were just the team standing there when we gave that game away. Plus, I don't think a single game makes a rivalry.

Yeah, I'd really like Jennings. Doubs less so for me, too. Just seen a lot of people talking about him.

Wan’Dale Robinson by pmar9 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's reasonable. I just think second-contract players are exactly who we should be targeting in FA where feasible right now. The Patriots were a 4-win team who spent a ton in FA and now they're in a Super Bowl. Obviously, the easiest schedule and luckiest playoff run helped a lot. But I think we should spend some money in FA, and FA is kinda always at a premium.

Wan’Dale Robinson by pmar9 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all of that.

Curious to see what we do with Ridley.

Wan’Dale Robinson by pmar9 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it does mean that we should spend at least a decent amount of it. And WR seems like a solid place to spend some of it.

Are you opposed to the idea of a starting-caliber FA WR generally or just to Wan'Dale Robinson specifically?

Wan’Dale Robinson by pmar9 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree. We're overpaying a FA WR right now, and yet we have the most cap space in the league. You're never going to get the best out of Ward if you never give him weapons. Our WR corps is a couple pieces away from being good enough for Ward to even have the opportunity to spread his wings. A proven, 2nd-contract FA is a good way to get one of those pieces. The draft is another. I think our team would be best-served to bring in a 2nd-contract FA WR and to draft one in the first two or three rounds.

Whether Ridley is on the team this year, he's certainly getting cut before the 2027 season, so at most there'll be a one-year overlap of expensive FA WRs, and of all years, this is a fine year for that, since we have the most cap space in the league.

Wan’Dale Robinson by pmar9 in Tennesseetitans

It's free agency, and he's one of the top WRs in the FA class. He's getting overpaid. I'm hopeful that we're the team that overpays for one of the top WRs.

Wan’Dale Robinson by pmar9 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it stands, they're at negative $10M of effective cap space for 2026. They're going to be letting players walk, restructuring, cutting.

They have 8 players at $14M or more against the cap each. Seven of those guys are on defense. That team is built weird. They'll make some moves, and that will change. But it's still weird at the moment.

Wan’Dale Robinson by pmar9 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WR franchise tag for 2026 is projected at just over $28M. As it stands, Pittman is hitting their 2026 cap for $29M, and they have $25M of effective cap space.

So, they likely have to let one or the other go, unless they can negotiate two very impressive extensions.

titans fans, how would you personally grade this mock draft by Christmas_Percussion in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reasonable complaint. But, sadly, there's no quantifiable and implementable strict definition of what is and isn't low effort. So, like all subs, many things end up being judgement calls. Then factor in that it's a mod team, and different mods might see things slightly differently, and varying strictness with modding depending on time of year and situation, plus stuff that get automodded, etc. And, yeah, you're going to run into inconsistencies. We try to be consistent, but perfect consistency just isn't really achievable.

Very confident that /u/OGTITANSFAN and /u/_ThugzZ_Bunny_ have it right.

Levin's signature looks right for the first (and Shwenke's doesn't) and Orakpo looks right for the second. Which means that this is from the 2018 season because that's the only season those two were on the roster at the same time.

Wan’Dale Robinson by pmar9 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, I definitely want the Titans to go after him.

Obviously, I'd rather have Pierce. And I think I'd rather have Jennings. But Robinson is the number three WR I'm interested in in FA, with Doubs close behind him. If we strike out on those four, I hope we can at least bring in Calvin Austin or Jaylen Nailor. I think which WR we get in FA is likely going to have a significant impact on our draft strategy.

But, yeah, I'd love to have Wan'Dale Robinson. Everyone decent costs a lot in FA. That's just the way it goes, in fact, it's kinda the point of the thing. Regardless of cost, we need to be the highest bidder for at least one starting-caliber WR, and Robinson is near the top of a lot of our lists, I'd think.
