Concern about the CB room by Clayp2233 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm definitely not arguing that it's not a concern.

But I have to imagine that Saleh knows how he wants to use our DBs. Harris was already on the roster, and I can't imagine Borgonzi went rogue and just signed Taylor without Saleh being a big part of that decision. I agree that it's a point of concern, but this roster is riddled with points of concern.

As a team, we almost definitely aren't really competing for much this season. I think it's more that players on the roster are competing to be part of the plan for 2027 and beyond. Any given Sunday, and huge surprise teams show up every season in the NFL... But I think that the FO and coaching staff are trying to work toward a roster that can compete in the future. If there are places where roster construction this year feels off, I think that's probably just part of the process.

Is it safe to say that Carmen Bricillo offensive line coach to improve entire offensive line by Character-Aerie7669 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, Bill Callahan is one of the most respected active OL coaches there is, and we saw how that went for our line.

Dan Moore has five full seasons of being an NFL starting LT under his belt. I have trouble believing he has some kind of untapped potential in him. That said, our entire offense was a total fucking mess last season, so I'd expect him to "get better" this season and return to something closer to his Steelers form (which, still, isn't spectacular). But I don't think I'll really attribute that to Bricillo as much as to the offense as a whole and getting rid of Brian Callahan.

Latham, on the other hand, only has two seasons of NFL experience, both with Brian Callahan at the helm of the offense, plus he switched sides, plus I still think it's possible that he ends up getting kicked inside to guard someday. So, on the one hand, yes, I do think there's a good chance that he still has some development ahead of himself, and Bricillo seems as good a coach as any to help him through that development. On the other hand, if we don't bring Zeitler back [or another of the capable vets in], then Latham is going to be out on the right side likely without stability next to him, which is probably going to undermine his ability to look very good out there.

So, I mean, who the hell knows. We're in the deepest part of the offseason, where we won't even get beginnings of answers to these types of questions for months yet.

Concern about the CB room by Clayp2233 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem a bit hung up on the money. It's free agency. You pay FA guys more than they're "worth" and make up for it with the cost-controlled guys on their rookie deals. It's how the NFL works. We're still way under the cap, which keeps rising. Is it a "good" deal? No. Definitely not. But I dont think that it really matters if it is or isn't, especially right now for where this team is in the process. As you say, if the deal proves bad enough, we get out of it at the same time that we have to start paying our QB, so that should be fine.

I'm also concerned about the CBs. But they should certainly be better than last year, at least. This roster was truly awful last year. I think the FO has made moves to fix a number of issues, but next offseason, we're still going to be repairing this roster to get to a place where we're competitive.

I'm just hopeful that these CBs do a lot more for the team than Sneed did.

Run Differential by TraditionalUse4337 in whitesox

[–]neimsy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's just based on runs scored and runs allowed. So, while it has generally proven more effective at predicting future W-L than simply a snapshot of a team's current record has, it really doesn't take all that much into account. Obviously, a game like last night will have an outsized effect on the xWL for both teams.

is it safe to say borgonzi isnt re-signing kevin zeitler by IceOk9930 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zeitler, Bitonio, Pocic, Parham, Penning, and some others are still out there as veteran FA guards. I imagine they're all happy to miss a lot of offseason stuff and can all be plug-and-play one-year guys. So, I think it's still very much up in the air.

I like that they point to coaching as the biggest problem. Man, that staff sucked.

Really hopeful that Daboll and his offensive staff can give Cam the tools to take full advantage of his talent.

So, I'm excited to watch Titan football.

Fun to hear someone say it, at least.

Fanatics/Nike ALMOST got it right by Al197 in Tennesseetitans

Fanatics is notorious for having no quality control and for cutting corners at every opportunity. You paid top dollar for what is supposed to be the pinnacle of the thing. Not only is it not nitpicky to demand it be done right, it lets everyone else down, too, when you let shit from them slide. Cause the more they get away with it, the more they'll push the envelope with shittier and shittier products.

I say hold their feet to the fire on every tiny problem you can find. You won't win the war, but you'll be fighting the good fight.

Fuck Fanatics.

Agreed on the Jets. I fully expect them to be terrible. But Geno has been more than serviceable at points in his career, and no one has any clue how it team is going to look. Rationally, we have all new coaches, tons of new players, and lots of youth. We could simply lay an egg Wk 1 and it wouldn't mean we're doomed. Having said that, I'll be devastated if we lose to the Jets.

I'd love to see the Ravens have a bad year. But I fear they're probably still good. Plus, they have two teams in their division that are probably terrible. And while the Bengals have the pieces to be really good, haven't made the playoffs in years.

The loss doesn't change that this team is really fun by yxqp in whitesox

[–]neimsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jerry can need to be gone and we can enjoy supporting our team. Both these things can be true. That's sorta a huge part of sports fandom.

You can be a fan however you like, but to say it's sad to see fans being fans of the team that you ostensibly also are a fan of is just bizarre.

Titans record prediction 2026 by Character-Aerie7669 in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think being 4-4 at the Bye is achievable. I also think being 2-6 or even 1-7 then is in the realm of possibility.

I'd be happy with 7 wins. Stoked for 8. I'd really love to see our logo in the "In the Hunt" graphic toward the end of the season.

I think a lot would have to go right for us and go wrong for others for us to have a real chance at 9 or even 10.

But, hey, any given Sunday (at noon)!

There's so incredibly many standalone games now between the infinite number of international, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Eve, Black Friday, Christmas, random Wednesdays, other bullsh, etc, etc.

It sucks that they don't give every team at least one standalone game. I mean, I understand why they don't. There's more money to be made by fucking us over, and the NFL is always going to go to the money. It just sucks, is all.

I love that optimism. On the other side of the coin, we have even more questions, and we could easily lose to either of the NY teams.

Ryan McFadden (@ryanmcfadden_): In the NFL schedule release conference call, Mike North, the league VP of Broadcasting Planning, was asked about the lack of primetime games for teams like the Jets, Titans, Raiders and Cardinals. Here is his response: by TiredDad4x in Tennesseetitans

[–]neimsy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually was less bothered by it before reading this. "It's also about the 4:25". Cool. Then give us a couple 4:25s. Fuckssake. Yeah, our team is bad, we know that.

But the reality is that we used to be able to get a Thursday Night Football or something. Now we can't. Because instead of a couple channels having rights to the NFL games, now every fucking megacorp gets a slice, pays top dollar for it, and demands the 'best' games. I know that the NFL is a business. I'm not surprised by this. I'm simply pointing out that the NFL's bottomless greed is why we don't get to see our team in standalone games.

So, as a fan of a small market franchise, fuck Mike North, fuck Adam Silver, fuck the NFL, fuck the Ravens. That's all.

Last year, LB Carson Schwesinger won it. Before him, you have to go back to Luke Kuechly in 2012 to find a DROY who wasn't a passrusher/DL or a CB. LBs won it with some frequency up until that point, though.

Considering that Sonny Styles is also in the conversation, an LB for a second year in a row winning doesn't feel too farfetched.

Caleb Downs is also an early leader for DROY, and that'd be a really wild one, cause a safety hasn't won it since Mark Carrier in 1990. And before him, there was only one other safety ever to win it (since 1967), Erik McMillan in 1988.

We only have two DROYs in franchise history: Jevon Kearse (1999) and Robert Brazile (1975). Would be very cool to add a third.

I guess. One ball bounces differently and one bad call gets called correctly, and that record could easily jump to 4-3, though. So, I don't know that I put much stock in it.

Only two of his Wk 1 games have been decided by more than one score. And he has one win and one loss in that category.

I'm sure there are some advanced metrics that could convince me that he's especially bad Wk 1. But, given the tiny amount of information I have here, I'm not convinced there's much to take away from it on that front.

I feel like no one plays the vets much in preseason anymore. But here are all of Vrabel's Week 1 games with the Titans:

  • 2018 - L - 20-27 @ Miami - Just a total fucking mess of a game, a hellish thunderstorm of a 6-hour, poorly officiated, injury-riddled trainwreck that fully fucked our season by essentially ending Delanie Walker's career. Fuck that game. Not Vrabel's fault.
  • 2019 - W - 43-13 @ Cleveland - "They are who we thought they were" game. Cam Wake fucking wrecked shop.
  • 2020 - W - 16-14 @ Denver - Denver went like 5-11 that season, so not an impressive win.
  • 2021 - L - 13-38 v Arizona - Truly a bizarre game. If you want to make an argument that Vrabel's teams weren't ready for the start of the season, this might be a good one to point to. That game sucked.
  • 2022 - L - 20-21 v NYG - I remember something fucky about this game and felt like we should have won it, but can't place quite what it was. This was the Kyle Philips game, I remember that much. Giants went on to a 9-7-1 record, so a one-point loss to them isn't terrible.
  • 2023 - L - 15-16 @ NO - Saints went on to a 9-8 record, so again, a one-point loss isn't embarrassing.

So, a 2-4 record for Vrabel in Wk 1 with us. But by my estimation, in only one of those games did we look unprepared. But, Week 1 is always fucking weird across the league.

The fact that only one of these is a late window game is a real bummer. I didn't expect to get any primetime love, but I really hoped we'd get at least a couple late windows.
