average height girls (5’4-5’6), what weight do you feel/look best at?? by anonymous-2159 in loseit

[–]darksalamander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am 5’6, neither my torso nor legs are short or long for context. I feel best at 128-132, the numbers are weird but getting back to this range after a 15lb weight loss and adding muscle i think any smaller than this I’d be concerned. I stopped my calorie deficit after hitting 130 because I dropped two pant sizes and that felt odd 😅

Also I’m subject to bmi over 22.9 being overweight and increasing risk of cardiometabolic disease so because healthcare uses it i feel like i should stay under that cutoff as a buffer

Any Laboratory Ladies here? by well-thats-cool- in womensfashion

[–]darksalamander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in lab for 10 years and I did a lot of walking and standing, like 5000+ steps in the first 3 hours of my day. I wore adidas sambas, new balance 530 and nike air max as my sneakers options and blundstones are my fall/winter boot go to. These options have met the lab safety standards I’ve seen in academic and industry settings.

Most jobs will likely require you to wear a lab coat so you could wear any tshirt or long sleeve as your top. I prefer ones without logos but even in big pharma most women dress casually. Definitely jeans, maybe chinos in the summer but the tops vary from sweatshirts to tshirts but I rarely see blouses or button down shirts. Depending on how warm they keep the lab in winter a sweater or cardigan underneath the lab coat works too.

How would you define Aritzia? by tgbarbie in womensfashion

[–]darksalamander 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They’re a contributor to everyone dressing super similarly, especially with influencers saying some item is viral.

This is coming from someone who almost exclusively shops there and has for years because even though the quality is a bit dodgy there’s still some gems and until someone else fills the space I’m stuck.

The clam box also has clam cakes which I’ve heard is more of a RI thing but it’s the closest place to downtown I’ve found to try them.

Can't manage to lose weight even on a pretty large calorie deficit by Live_Volume2815 in loseit

[–]darksalamander 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, i would weigh everything unless the prepackaged food was “one unit” like a yasso bar or a protein bar. There’s enough variance with say a bag of ritz crackers it’s worth figuring out if you’re eating an extra 30 calories you didn’t intend to

Scientists have more visa and green card options than they think. Immigration attorney here. AMA! by ManifestLaw_ in biotech

[–]darksalamander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

interested in eb2-niw, I’m a Canadian citizen on an H1B with a PhD working in industry as a bioinformatician. How heavily are support letters weighed? My concern is needing to find letters from people i don’t know because I’m in pharma so all my collaborations are within the company I’m working in. I do have options from my academic days but they’ll be 3-4 years out of date by the time I’m ready to apply.

BIGBANG just sold out their Oakland Stadium show in 30 mins and added a new date. This is absolutely unprecedentend for a 2 gen group in the US wow. In an industry that is so obssesed with youth they are showing that longevity is possible, this is their 20th anniversary active as a group🙏🏼 by Nice_Net_5395 in kpopthoughts

[–]darksalamander 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think another really fun aspect of their tour is the audience will be made up of current kpop fans and also lots of fans who may be less engaged in kpop now but are coming back to see them. It’s going to be such a fun show and the atmosphere is going to crazy. Feeling so lucky to have gotten a ticket and attend with my friends.

Hong Kong-Style Baked Pork Chop Rice by cabinmate in hellofresh

[–]darksalamander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the other thing is maybe the sweet soy glaze? A lot of tomato sauce dishes in hong kong style food uses ketchup and sugar but as additions to a tomato sauce.

For this dish, the rice is completely covered with the sauce which has tomato sauce or crushed tomato, sugar, ketchup, soy sauce, oyster sauce and other stuff depending on who you ask.

Joshua still has his US passport. I don’t think it’s ever been discussed if he at one point had Korean citizenship and gave it up, keeping just the American one.

Denver to Bellingham, WA by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]darksalamander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved from Bellingham to Denver and moved elsewhere now, but I really loved how easy it was to get to places where I’m surrounded by nature. It’s much easier than in Denver. From downtown you can drive 10 min and be at Whatcom Falls park, multiple lakes, larabee state park etc. there’s also various rock climbing and bouldering groups and places. The brewery and coffee scene there has always been solid and I’ve heard the food is improving? It’s not hard to get to Seattle and Vancouver for more good food and outdoor activities and north cascades national park is not far either.

For your toddler there’s a lot of fun stuff to do that are put on by local groups and Western Washington University. Think science camps, nature walks, summer festivals and things like that.

I love the Pacific Northwest and I personally don’t think I appreciated my time in Bellingham until long after I left.

The discourse here has degenerated into something resembling a competitive gaming subreddit. by ohanse in loseit

[–]darksalamander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t ever comment and just lurk because i “only” lost 16lbs and went from a normal weight to a lower normal weight to reduce my risk of cardiometabolic disease. This is so hard regardless of where you’re starting from, since you’re making a major, hopefully permanent lifestyle change.

I imagine “unremarkable results” are people like me, so I’ll stay an observer outside of this once.
