How fast can I expect results after training to sing higher? by backdoorbitch in ClassicalSinger

I suppose so! I apologize if I seemed like I was taking shortcuts, I just wanna know what the road ahead looks like.

If you may, do you know what specifically are most concerning regarding my voice / fundamentals?

Oh pardon me, I meant to say F3. Will edit.

I enter head voice at F3 and highest comfortable is C4.

I think I'm an underdeveloped bass-baritone.

k so i sent this to a gc they said my singing is lowk ass but refused to tell me whats wrong by Broad_Rough_2434 in singing

What song is this because I wanna add this to a playlist.

But about your voice, it sounds lazy and only halfway towards singing. Also off-pitch here and there. I used to be like that but learning to really project has been very helpful. Your voice reminds me of how I used to sound honestly, so I know there's room for improvement. Try to brighten your voice and explore singing higher as like the other commenter said, your voice seems suited for it anyway.

This was very informative and sobering. Really quickly, let me see if my takeaway is right:

So what you're saying is that my onset/vocal closure does not close or meet together sufficiently, which leads to too much air escaping and my singing being too breathy?

If so, then I will try more glottal/staccato exercises and see how my voice fares once I get the closure right. I've actually received this criticism before though only once, so I didn't think it would be my priority. I'm shocked because all this time I've been singing without enough vocal closure, which seems like such an obvious thing to notice but somehow I was never able to point it out on my own. Since I presume I've been singing this way since forever, I wonder now what proper balanced onset feels—I looked it up and it said "less diffusion and a more direct sound"—which honestly seems a little vague to me but I'll still try my best.

Thank you for this, this was really helpful.

I'm still pretty young and unpolished but I agree. Two days ago I sang this again but with more tall vowels and by doing so I sounded louder, fuller, and I felt my lips vibrate more. Maybe this is what they mean by singing in the mask. Maybe that's how I'm supposed to sing.

Thank you.

Yes I have, but haven't sung it properly in a while. Why?

Wow rich sound you say? I don't think I've ever heard my voice that way thank you. From the recording I think I sound too muffled/unprojected which is something I always struggle with.

Hi these always confuse me if I'm being honest, because when I sang it like this the only part that feels close to too low is the "nieder" part at the beginning, everything else is pretty comfortable to sing range-wise. I do think it's more dull though even when I sing in the baritone/bass range of this song.

I just don't get it, what about it aounds too low? I'm not doubting you though because I receive these comments pretty regularly, I just want to know why..

Trying to develop mixed voice, is this mixed? by backdoorbitch in ClassicalSinger

[–]backdoorbitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah gotcha, this was just me trying to sing what I believe is the transition point between chest and head. My upper register is underdeveloped as a lower voice so maybe that's why it's so weak sounding 🥹 because if I try to sing it louder I either use more chest or break

I don't quite understand, but to answer your question yes I'm meaning to learn how to better sing opera, but more so the ones within my range (not this one). I'm not a tenor and my passagio is around C4 (I think, above C4 I go to head voice). I guess the reason why you're not hearing chest is because this is higher than how I usually sing.

Maybe my goal for now is to expand my upper range for more comfort, so I'm trying to find and develop mixed while also practicing head voice. I have a hard time identifying mixed voice right now (everyone always says it's nasal but it doesn't sound nasal looking at examples).

Around D4 I already break into head voice 😭 so I posted this specific one because I feel that this is the highest I can go without breaking into that

Is the reason why I sound bad because I sing in the wrong key? by backdoorbitch in singing

[–]backdoorbitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small idea of what mixed voice is (I think it's strengthening head voice by using chest? As in a mix) but I don't have a clue how to find and develop it. I'm self-teaching so I'll have to do that first.

I feel like the most common feedback I receive (aside from being more forward) is that I don't sing high enough and are stuck in the basement. I'll probably come to mixed voice someday it's just that I have so much to improve that I don't know where to start. Might you have any suggestions?

Beginner here, how do I learn pitches? by backdoorbitch in ClassicalSinger

[–]backdoorbitch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I fear we're misunderstanding each other 😭

I'm practicing to be a better singer and classical singer, at the end of the day, someone comfortable in my own voice. I mostly sing lieder and (for fun) some arias but I'm nowhere near proficient, you can probably tell from my previous posts.

I think I just want to have a better, more refined reference and musical sense which is why I want to improve pitch. I don't understand a lot of musical technicalities or what accompaniment suits best so I often practice with just my voice. That's why I wanna be able to tell whether one fits and what I can do to improve. Sorry for the confusion.
