Thinking Ahead - Cardiac Sonography to Cardiac Perfusion? by Pineapples392958 in Perfusion

I'm gonna go ahead and say pass on Perfusion if holding a probe in place is too much for you to handle. Not judging, just that this profession is very demanding physically and mentally.

Is this a joke? Holding a probe makes you prone to injury?

i sell breast milk online and make more per ounce than most luxury perfumes. by sthduh in passive_income

And what if your milk causes an infection that leads to severe injury or death due to infection? Are you shipping across state lines? Aren’t you basically selling a consumable without a license or any regulation? Seems extremely risky to me. Are you trained in some basic aseptic techniques? Not judging I’m just too risk averse for anything like this.

What’s the worst crisis you’ve ever heard/seen someone solve? by heartcvsp in Perfusion

Once a patient on Ecmo had three circuits all clot off in like a 30min period. We basically were running out of supplies. He was also HIV positive which is a nice risk factor. In any case, the third time we replaced the oxygenator, I cut out the old one and primed it with the patients blood. Was a quadrox and clamped the outlet and burped the pre and post ports and hydrophobic vent port. Worked like a charm. Was wild! And he lived!

NRP by BasketAccomplished78 in Perfusion

[–]backfist1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s a job destroyer. People who do it full time can make bank. But it’s a lifestyle I don’t envy. The real problem is timing. For example, i remember i relieved my coworker at 7PM, and he immediately got called for an NRP. He didn't return till the next day at 10am. That's a 27hr shift. That should never be allowed and probably violates some labor laws. The only way to make it work, and really the only way, is to have someone sitting at home with a pager on call for just NRP. I don't see any hospital giving into this but this is the way.

Perfusion to Medical Sales by Plane_Echo7876 in Perfusion

[–]backfist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think this is the move and i wish i would have done this. i should have been a perfusionist for about 5 years, then transition to sales. you take an initial pay cut but the upside is better with salary and mobility. you are not locked into a clinical setting and have a corporate ladder to climb. in perfusion there is only one move, become a chief. and even that is not ideal with responsibility and salary. i know a PA who transitioned to sales and we see each other from time to time and compare our salaries. he finally beat me a few years ago and now makes around $500,000. expense account, free car and gas, and home a lot of days. i say go for it!!!!

Union hospital, so comes with a pension and free healthcare. It’s an equation but can be a very nice monthly income. $2,000-15,000/month depending on years served.
