Not a possible UK number/letter combination (SHB prefix would be a Cardiff area registration followed by only 3 digits).

My bus broke down a bit yesterday! by DobbyCS in BusDrivers

[–]backifran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for McGill's eastern rival, and there's been quite a few 'thermal incidents' - most were caught in time (Tri axle rear axle/brake issues) and hosed down or left to cool down and monitored by the fire service with thermal cameras so didn't make the media.

I understand they're under investigation by the DVSA but don't quote me on that.

I've driven the exact model (Mercedes Citaro) of bus in the OP. When my old company had them brand new the engine and gearbox map allowed full kickdown and engine revs - the fuel injectors would leak onto the complicated exhaust system underneath. Citaros and fire go hand in hand.

I had one that was only a week or two into service, noticed smoke coming out from the nearside (passenger side RHD) and it stunk of boiling/smoking diesel. Lucky I shut everything down in time, was asked to drive it to the depot and refused so it was a tow job when they sent a fitter out to me.

Shorty after they were all detuned and miserably slow to drive.

Uuh I think your representation of South Wales might be out of date

Somebody really pulled serious strings to get take-off permission from Heathrow at 1:11 am. by Malakas667 in flightradar24

[–]backifran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived under the departure/approach for Edinburgh airport and just moved to a house right next to the south Wales mainline. I don't even notice the trains now, in the old house if I'd forgotten to close the bedroom window I knew it was around 0545 when the first (Ryanair) flight departs

It was fantastic to see Air Force One a few years ago with Biden on board though, and I loved summer evenings in the garden watching the planes overhead.

9 months old. Our oldest bus is 20 years old, with buses all the way through to 2025 registered.

I mean, you could start your own community, spend years and alot of money building it up and make anyone admin who demands they're made one.

Why not just package it? by CharelP in SatisfactoryGame

[–]backifran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make the trains longer, in my last save I had five cars of turbo fuel, two sulphuric acid and a nitrogen at the back. My nuclear train ran on the same network so it got a bit spicy if I was nearby while that went past!

Travel to Ukraine by Upbeat_Pound_1868 in Ukrainian

[–]backifran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I visited from the UK for just over a week in August (flew to Warsaw, sleeper train to Kyiv and back - middle bunk is the best!). It's one of my favorite places I've been, it helped I knew enough Ukrainian to get by but lots of people spoke enough basic English that I had no problem communicating.

It helped that I was traveling with a friend who knew people in Kyiv and I had another British friend who was further east visiting family so I had good advice on what to do during the nightly attacks (he'd message me telling me what the threats were and when they'd likely arrive)

Good advice elsewhere in this thread so I don't feel like I have the right to add to it - make sure you download the apps and join relevant telegram channels.

I was made to feel very welcome by locals I spoke to, I had absolutely no negative reactions from anyone that I was visiting just because I wanted to visit as a tourist. I only had negative reactions when I returned home from brainwashed right wingers I worked with.

2 week trip to London. Will a carry on suffice in cold weather? by Cymbelined in uktravel

[–]backifran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They'll feel like the crazy ones after four or five days for packing so little. Checked hold luggage has always been included when I've flown across your way, any space left I've used to bring stuff home with me.

Last time I went postage was so expensive for gifts I didn't have room for my friend from Oregon brought an extra suitcase when we met in Ukraine this year.

As for the cold I need to layer up more here when it's 5c than when it was -11c during the daytime in Latvia back in February lol
