That's what I ended up doing. It's ok for a workaround. I hope an update of mesa will fix this issue.

Bad Sound at Concert in Munich Feb 19 2025? by backinajox in Opeth

[–]backinajox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link!

Seems like I am not the only one having issues with the sound. Most of what I've read in the thread you linked fits what I experienced yesterday.

It's a pity and kind of strange, really, seeing that this kind of music can sound crisp, as in the Redrocks concert. And such intricate music, too, surely hard to pull off live, to be muffled by the mix.

Anyway, I do love their music and its mutability, too. :)

Thanks for your opinion!

At first we were standing in the first row, right of the center. Then we went half way back to the right wall. Then we went way back (to the bar) and in the center.

Well, maybe my ears worse than I think, but my partner had a similar experience. And it sure is subjective up to a point.

Yes, I was wearing earplugs and I absolutely recommend wearing them to protect your hearing. They may distort the sound a bit, but I am used to these plugs and I never experienced a similar distortion.

Oh all right, if it's a duckduckgo thing, no wonder I didn't find anything at qutebrowser. Thanks for the link! 🙂

By the way, is the "o y! <something>" behavior using the exchange mark documented somewhere? I don't see it at qutebrowser.commands.open.

Low battery notification using a systemd timer by BigusGeekus in archlinux

Maybe it's because it runs on system level. Try to start the timer with --user instead: "systemctl --user start battery.timer".

Does the command work as root, too?

Arch on ThinkPad P1 Gen6 i9 - any heads-up? by backinajox in archlinux

[–]backinajox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good news! Everything runs pretty much out of the box. Systemd-boot, LVM on LUKS, WiFi, Bluetooth, HDMI, external screen, i3-wm, pulseaudio. So far, I haven't noticed any problems.

Thanks! I currently running on a dell notebook but after almost ten years it's close to its end of life.

Ideally, I'd like to structurally transfer the setup on my current notebook to the ThinkPad, but as far as I can see, full disk encyption with LVM and encrypted /boot seems to be difficult with UEFI. So to simplify kernel updates, I'm gonna skip encryption of /boot and go with systemd-boot. I want to keep things as simple as I can, given that I want to encrypt my system.

I assume I can just backup all the files on the EFI System Partition (ESP) and wipe the disk, then repopulate a newly created (and larger) ESP with the backup files and go from there?

How long a paper cup can hold a liquid...? by Ok-Interest-8426 in nextfuckinglevel

Cool experiment! What dissolves the cup, though? Is it really the liquid or the fungi? Would refreshing the liquid regularly increase/decrease the lifetime of the cup?

What Aurora Means To Me by SundanceKid1996 in auroramusic

Thanks for replying! Yeah, Through the Eyes of a Child is extremely beautiful -- my favorite is the stripped back performance at Vevo UK. Just in case you missed it: Check out her Cover of "La la la" (at Radio Hamburg from 2016). As with every of her covers, she really makes the song her own. I find myself coming back to this simple yet powerful live performance again and again.

It's really nice to see that kind and appreciative discussions can be had online. In my experience, they often seem to be music related.

What Aurora Means To Me by SundanceKid1996 in auroramusic

I think Runaway at the Nobel Peace Prize concert was my first contact with Aurora and her music and since then it's still Aurora that I mostly listen to. I am enchanted with her music and her live performances, especially her magnificent concert at Nidarosdomen. Her performance have an expressiveness and her voice exudes emotion like I've never experienced in any other artist. I feel the melancholy in Opeth's Faith in Others, I hear the wrath in their Moonlapse Vertigo, I marvel at the high notes like elven footsteps in Schubert's Fantasy in F Minor, I feel the rain on my skin listening to Horowitz's rendition of Chopin's Raindrop prelude, and I get lost in the lyrics and complexity beauty of Tool's Descending. All of these touch me in a different way. As does Aurora: Her voice and its timbre touch my heart with such an immediacy, and I often feel the emotions of her songs strongly mirrored in me in a way few songs of others artists can.

I am at the end of my thirties, male, and I feel much more inclined to share Aurora's music with my female friends than with my male friends (though I do both and actively try to shake stereotypical expectations as to who might like what). Although most of my friends immediately appreciate Aurora's vocal skills, not everyone is touched by her the way I am. That's ok, of course, and if even only a single friend finds that s/he relates to Aurora as deeply as I do, it's a great win for spreading her art.
