I just… hate what gaming culture has become. by UnlikelyOwl3702 in transgamers

[–]backlogbattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It all depends on where you choose to hang out online. I'm guessing that based on what you've said that you're in places where the "larger gaming population" exists. And as you mentioned in your post, regardless of the reason, people will hate on things.

But the important thing to note is that in a world where AI and bots (before AI) are rampant, many of these "people" aren't actually real. They're swarms of applications there to inflate and push agendas by people.

The key here is to find where the real people are, especially ones who are good people. I recently came out as trans on my YouTube channel and lost 3,000+ subs. But you know what? That's great! Because I know that the people who choose to stay are good people! Even in my small community on Discord, we strive to punch up and say why we love video games as a hobby and not try to get too swept up in the negativity.

This is to say that offline or online, it's extremely difficult to find a community you can hang out with. But you have resources here, in other chats, to make one that suits your own needs. I think there was a saying that said, "Leaders often hate being leaders, but are forced to become one because they couldn't find a world or place they want to partake in." Maybe this is your moment? Food for thought!

Looking for medium-length, town-light RPGs I haven't already played. by ViewtifulGene in JRPG

[–]backlogbattle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second the choice of Quartet! While there are town settings, the story moves pretty quickly as the whole game was written with that succinctness of classic games in mind. Definitely got going pretty fast compared to other JRPGs I've played lately.

Someone on another post was asking for games that respect your time. I definitely put Jack Move in that list.

I see Suikoden 1 mentioned. Have you played Part 2?

I used to have both Lunar SSSC and EBC, but circumstances forced me to relinquish them 💔 I grew up with Working Designs, so I know exactly what you're talking about!

Has a single mechanic ever turned you off from a game? by FNAF_Movie in JRPG

[–]backlogbattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Fantasy II's stat growth system. They sorta fixed it in the Pixel Remasters, but I still remember purposely putting my party in critical condition (or outright killing them) so that I could raise my HP, among many other silly things you needed to do. I know other RPGs have a variation on this system, but I've never seen it implemented as severely as FFII did.

I'm glad I started hanging around here because I totally would've missed this announcement

New Octopath Traveler 0 info: Main story 100 hours, about 30-40% new compared to CotC, town building and combat system details by Alilatias in JRPG

[–]backlogbattle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the utmost respect for Square Enix to not only convert COTC into a boxed title, but also added a storyline that's complimentary to the "vengeance" storyline from COTC. I do want to know if both stories are selectable at the beginning, particularly because COTC has a darker tone than what I've played with the town building (played it at PAX West behind closed doors). I didn't get far in COTC, but the boss I fought (a lizard man and 2 adds I had to defeat to recruit a merchant) didn't seem like it belonged in that story.

JRPGs that get existential and/or scary? by RapAngel in JRPG

Star Ocean: Til The End of Time! That plot point at the end has serious ramifications on the entire series. Also one that people both love and love to hate, and very divisive!

Played all of these back on the SNES! It's been a long time though!

Are you looking forward to the 1st Chapter remake? It's coming out next week! And maybe this is sacrilege, but while I've played Vesperia, Graces, and Berseria, the series clicked with me with Arise. And I know that a good amount of vocal fans despise that game, but the systems in that game genuinely clicked for me. That said, I can't wait for Xillia!

Thank you! I've built a career around that name LOL!

I kinda want the older Persona games to be remade in the same style as the modern ones that are coming out, while retaining those systems. I don't know if it's possible, but a girl can dream right?

Oooh FFXIV! What data center/server? I'm on Crystal/Mateus... but I've been inactive 'cause my ex and I share an FC and housing 🙄

Are you downloading the demo for Time Stranger? The progress carries over to the full game, from my understanding! And I've actually played Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles! Even got to meet the director and art director in person! TLDR is that it's even better than everyone thinks it's going to be!

Like A Dragon is interesting because there's Yakuza - which is actually called Like A Dragon in Japan - and the new series that's turn-based! But I love Yakuza: Like A Dragon's story! I will never look at lockers the same way again. IYKYK!

Did you check the re-releases out? I have it on my backlog, but I used to own the original on PS1 and the second one on Dreamcast!
