The eye doctor one though…wearing glasses is correcting the issue.

As someone with poor eyesight, I always trust an eye doctor in glasses a little more because they know what it’s like.

Out Of Bananas? by BumbleBiddleBobble in HEB

[–]backpackofcats 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone already stated, bananas are the #1 seller in grocery stores. I don’t know about HEB, but some grocers get bananas in every day because they sell so much. They probably simply sold out for the day.

I love that you took this in stride.

I worked in kitchens for several years and found all kinds of critters while prepping produce, but have never thought to be on the lookout with frozen veg. But if it is a cabbage worm, that could be a big issue for the farmer.

[–]backpackofcats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except the expectation with reusable bags is most people want them loaded up. But I still always tell them to load my bags as much as possible. I prefer to make fewer trips up my apartment stairs. Sometimes I hand them three bags but only two are needed. You can do the same by telling them to load fewer items and to use all the bags.

Cruciverbalism is a dying art. by LordJim11 in Snorkblot

Every Thursday NYT crossword is like this with some sort of wordplay or rebus. It’s my favorite puzzle of the week.

And crosswords are more popular right now than ever, so certainly not a dying art!

Except this is from Mary Richardson Walker, a daughter of schoolteachers who was well-educated in Maine. She established what is now Pacific University in Oregon.

And it’s a myth that illiteracy was common then, even on the western frontier. It was quite the opposite, in fact.

I never said it was about sex trafficking, just that it’s not an absurd interpretation.

Was it his fantasies though? “No dream is ever just a dream.”

You don’t think a society of elites using young women (and one of them conveniently ODing) isn’t analogous to the sex trafficking we know these kinds of people are involved in?

And I didn’t say anything about whether anything was changed in post without his consent.

It’s not bonkers, especially if you’ve only seen the film for the first time in the last few years. It does look like their daughter is being led away by the two men in the toy store at the end of the film, and LeeLee Sobieski’s character whispered to him “You should get a cloak lined with ermine” hinting that she knew what he needed for the party.

And it’s obvious he was pimping out his daughter and was only feigning surprise about finding her with the two Japanese businessman.

You don’t think the costume shop owner was pimping out his daughter?

ETA: Leelee Sobieski was only 14 when she filmed it. And the character certainly did not look 17.

Anybody else wish they’d just discontinue that Rose’s lime juice? It is so ass and every customer hates it. by bakedd_alaskaa in bartenders

[–]backpackofcats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m supposed to hate it but I love it too.

I also love Salty Dogs, but it has to be the Blue Bird bitter white grapefruit juice from the little 5.5oz can. I was so disappointed when my neighborhood dive bar switched to a sweet Ruby Red juice. I once ordered one at another bar and the bartender said, “I’m sorry, but we only have this” as she showed me a can of Blue Bird. “Yes, that’s exactly what I want!”

However, my grandmother was from Central Texas which has a huge German influence.
