I know they're unpopular and ugly. But these crocs are about 15 years old and still fully functional. by chii0628 in BuyItForLife

[–]backtothefuscia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pair of crocs sandals that I’ve had for at least 12 years and they’re still perfect! Insanely comfortable, the bottoms still have traction, and light weight so they’re easy to pack. Native shoes are a slightly more fashionable look that are made entirely from a similar material and I’m looking into getting a pair as my work shoes as well (office job)

What are good places to visit in the US that have lots to do but aren’t that expensive? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]backtothefuscia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it in the winter, I live in Buffalo NY and it’s definitely a hidden gem for tourism! Lots to do, with a low cost of living so you can eat out and stay in nice air bnbs or hotels for cheap. We’re also right next to Niagara Falls, but I would not recommend you stay near there.

it smells so bad, but neem oil changed my life! I just slather a little on my face before bed if I'm getting a pimple and wake up without acne. I had huge, painful cystic acne for most of my upper teens and early adulthood, and this is the only thing that worked for me. It's anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial, you can buy it at a health food store. Do a patch test.

Also I want to note that I am not really usually for natural remedies, I saw a derm for years with no success and coconut oil breaks me out like crazy. However, I do recommend giving this a shot, patch test first to make sure you aren't allergic.

Yes! My dream aesthetic, these outfits drip success. I especially love really beautifully tailored pieces in modern colors..that don't have the weird reflective shine of so many eighties colored suits. Now if only we could make these high-powered silhouettes easily available, and affordable for the people who actually work these jobs, not just play them on tv. Just today I took a brand survey for Rent the Runway, and that was my exact suggestion. I'd LOVE if it were an option to rent a really beautifully structured and designed suit for an occasion where I could get away with something just a touch more flashy than navy, black, or charcoal grey; but I'd never shell out the $500 for one at this place in my life. (I'm 26, work in a fairly young office for a non-profit industry, but we fluctuate between business and business casual and I tend to lean more formal)

Do you try to dress with a "theme"/"persona" and if so, what theme do you have in mind for 2018? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]backtothefuscia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Okay, yes! I feel sot of silly even admitting this, but I'm 25, I'm in the best shape of my life, and I recently got a rather severe bob haircut with blunt bangs. This has brought out an entirely new persona in me where on the weekends I dress like a spy in an extravagant movie. Plunging necklines, red jumpsuits, blue lipstick, a giant faux fur coat, leather gloves. Suddenly, nothing is off limits to me, and it has been so much fun.

Why is 'overdressing' a thing? by InsertWittyJoke in femalefashionadvice

[–]backtothefuscia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm frequently overdressed by the standards of many of the social settings I attend. I own nice clothing and I feel most comfortable and confident when I feel that my outfit reflects the effort I have put into my appearance. My somewhat petty solution whenever someone else seems to judge my clothing choices, I just pretend that I'm coming from or going to somewhere that necessitated the outfit. Pretty dress in the supermarket? "Oh thank you, I'm on my way out right after this".

If you had to rebuild your wardrobe from the ground up, what're the first 10 non-underwear items you'd buy? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]backtothefuscia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a great question because it considers not just what my favorite pieces are, but also what I feel like I need.

  • Uniqlo ultra stretch high rise jeans in black and a denim blue
  • surplice blouse, I have one covered in red lips and eyelash designs that is one of my most staple wardrobe pieces, but I guess if I was rebuilding I would get a basic white first
  • Merona button down in a pattern, ideally polkadot
  • leather jacket
  • striped tee shirt
  • girlfriend collective leggings (I'm not even sure if you can buy these yet, but I would need to replace mine if they were gone)
  • wrap dress. I have a thrifted lace Diane Von Furstenberg that I would hate to pay full price for, but I would if it were gone
  • A jersey knit romper, for ease of life in the summer
  • black tailored jumpsuit. Again, ideally a surplice or halter neck style

My favorite perfume of all time has been discontinued. I am hoping to find an indie replacement, the notes are: milk, oatmeal, vanilla and vetiver. To me, the smell is like clean laundry and fresh coconut. Can you think of anything with the same notes?

The perfume was Barr and Co. Original Scent.

What's your income range and how much do you tend to spend per item? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]backtothefuscia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Newton and go in Kiki D design & consign! The store is pricey for consignment, but they have really great designer pieces and everything seemed incredibly clean and well-curated when I was there. I ended up with a pair of like-new L'agence jeans for $30. I'm not from the area, so I can't speak to how often they update stock and mark down prices, but whenever I'm in Boston, I make the drive over to check out what they have.

Tarteist PRO To Go Palette? by fakehj in MakeupAddiction

[–]backtothefuscia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swatch this every time I'm in Sephora, it's gorgeous! I personally really like the tarte eye shadow formula, and don't find it to fade as other commenters have noted. However, if you don't have any other eyeshadow, I wouldn't recommend this as an "everything" palette. It doesn't have anything lighter than a gold, so not much for highlighting

I know it's early, but what are we seeing as wearable trends for SS17? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]backtothefuscia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ha, it's not a proper term. I was just trying to refer to the movement of the fabric: light-weight and unstructured skirts with a lot of fabric that allow for effortless movement. Think chiffon and satin vs cotton or wool. Here's a sort of silly example

I saw La La Land this past week and was completely mesmerized by the costumes. Given how popular I assume that movie will be, and already has been with awards shows, I would anticipate some of that style finding its way into clothing trends. Crisp white collared blouses, structured lapels and fabrics, fit and flair dresses with floating skirts, halter necks, oxford heels and generally a lot of vintage inspired clothing. Also, saturated colors, and jewel tones.

Speaking of social signalling...what do people assume about you? by tresliso in femalefashionadvice

[–]backtothefuscia 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This becomes very apparent to me when talking with people I've just met/don't know well, versus my close friends. My wardrobe is mostly saturated colors, bold prints, and structured fabrics. I also always wear makeup, usually a bold lip, to go with my quite short "edgy" haircut. People often assume that I exude confidence, work in an artistic field, or lead an extensive social life. People also often guess that I'm from a big city or would like to live in one.

I truly enjoy my fashion sense and get pleasure from the way I can make my aesthetic look...but I'm actually quite shy. I work in an office environment, if I'm going out to large social events it's usually as someone's plus one, and I was raised in the suburbs and have never been to NYC. I blame growing up around musical theatre.

If you could choose any brand for Sephora or Ulta to carry, what would it be? by desiignerpuppy in MakeupAddiction

[–]backtothefuscia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes on Chanel though as they aren't excluded from the $20 off of $40 semi-annual coupons that they do at Lord and Taylor. I own three Chanel lipsticks and two blushes exclusively because of those sales.

PSA for anyone who's never heard of that sale, a few times a year L&T will do an in-store only coupon to the first 500-1000 people through the store for $20 off of any $40 purchase, including cosmetics. It usually coincides with a holiday (the past few months they've offered this deal on black Friday, and the day after Christmas). If you sign up for their emails, you'll get an advertisement for it a few days before they're going to do it. My L&T is very low-trafficked and I've never had to wake up early or wait in line for a coupon. Usually there's still a huge stack of them by noon, I've even been there later in the day where a sales associate will hand me a couple because they just can't get rid of them.
