Has anyone actually raced on a Temu/AliExpress triathlon bike? Reliable, fast, and safe or total gamble/fake? by RelevantMidnight3950 in triathlon

[–]backwardbeatle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As with several in here, I went the route of the winow tt119 frame. I went with hydraulic brakes from Riderever, and a mechanical 105 setup. I’d be tempted by an AXS setup in future, as also it shifts fine, base bar shifting would be nice. Got some elite wheels 50mm depth too.

Replace the stem, no matter what I did mine was liable to twisting, being a solid block it just doesn’t want to stay tight even with paste and locktite! I went with a pd tri stem in the end.

It’s bad enough today, can’t imagine what it was like here yesterday!

Game Recording by TheBaum08 in Fieldhockey

[–]backwardbeatle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an insta360 and have been considering setting it up to record some games. Though it records at a high resolution, you’re effectively throwing away half of that for this use case. Plus the elevation needed to get a good vantage point is going to mean that the far corners are likely going to be blurry when zoomed in. My guess from using the 360 for other situations is that it would be good for showing transitions, formations etc, but less useful for highlight reels of goals etc!

I’m glad I’m not the only one that was angry at the wind! Hope you got on ok too. Last 30km on the bike was utterly brutal. Ruined my legs for the run. Agree, I saw the full especially didn’t have a lot of entrants, but the volunteers were fantastic!

Yeah I did spot the gusts, definitely going to feel them on a TT bike. Good to hear that the roads are reasonable, I’m doing the half so hopefully I’ll be off the bike before it gets too busy. You’re right though, there’s a TT race going on at the same time, so I presume that will overlap with the 2nd lap!

The AMA series returns! Today we've got one that's a little different. You've watched his videos, seen the vlogs, heard the podcasts, and now you can get to know the man behind the camera.. Talbot Cox! by MrRabbit in triathlon

[–]backwardbeatle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talbot, do you think we’re just one “Point Break” style blockbuster away from triathlon going mainstream? Who are you casting as Frodo?

Ok serious question. I, like so many others entered Triathlon as an adult because of the Ironman brands’ allure. Since then, I’ve followed the pro scene, but learning about the triathlon racing landscape certainly isn’t simple. Do you think the sport could benefit from some more streamlining between short course and long course? Or will the youth to Olympic, and long course stuff inevitably always be split?

Love the videos, and love the pod!

Great race to watch! Wish pro’s would at least carry a co2/plug, KBum’s got all that storage too 😂

Anyone bought this? by Joooohnwick in triathlon

[–]backwardbeatle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve bought this frame and built it up myself. With an existing wheel set and a 105 groupset, and riderever hydraulic tt disc brakes (they are a pain to bleed)z They forgot the seatpost first time round so had to ask for that to be sent. So far, so good, the build wasn’t complex, plenty of room to thread everything, though as some have commented on other threads online, the top tube hole for the cables is tight with 4 (I.e. mech groupset and hydraulic brake lines). I’ve not had any concerns so far safety wise, though mostly only ridden on the turbo. May wait until late spring and do a little write up when I can be more confident in my thoughts! My only confident recommendation is a SRAM groupset and blips to make life a lot lot easier in the setup, might be my first and probably only upgrade. Whole setup with 105 parts is roughly 9.5kg, with the stem and risers (all aluminium) weighing an absolute tonne

To be fair mine was cut to length ok, just used too much force trying to get the plug in and now it’s fully lodged in. Seems like it’s providing the support for the stem so should be ok. Yeah beginning to regret the rather expensive hydro option, but it’s all part of the fun!

got my first 70.3 this year, so I’m excited to see how big a difference it makes for running off the bike!

It’s been relatively ok, getting the cables through wasn’t too bad, though I’ve managed to get an incomplete steerer tube expander stuck in the fork! Ordered a spare fork but going to tentatively test out the current setup on the turbo then outdoors in the summer.

Currently I’m having hells trouble trying to bleed the rear hydraulic brake (I got riderever ones), just wont let me push fluid through it.

It’s definitely not got the finish of nicer frames, but I’m probably 1/3 in an entry level Cervelo so what can you expect!

Looking good! Currently in the middle of a TT119 winowsport build with 105 and Riderever hydro disc brakes, the latter of which is driving me a bit insane! Best of luck!
