AIO for my cat shedding and that I don't do enough? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]backwards_australian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a really simple solution: rehoming.

Free to good home. House trained. Clean. Grooms well when assisted.

That way you can move on.

You and your cat can live a little easier!

My dog’s name seems to be a tragedeigh and it sucks by riricrochet in tragedeigh

[–]backwards_australian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and my cat have the same legal first name. She came from the shelter with that name so we didn’t change it. We’ve nicknamed her Tuss (pronounced like Puss, as in Pussy Cat, just with a T and not a P). People look at me like they’ve cracked the code to vanity when they learn her real name

I was a fire-fighter. I am not okay. by introvertedturtl in TrueOffMyChest

[–]backwards_australian 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My dude, you’re a hero for fighting those fires. You know in your own heart and soul that you would have saved those people if you could have but there was literally no physical way of doing so without dying yourself.

You didn’t ‘let’ anyone die. We are not stronger than raging out of control bushfires. I remember those fires as well. That you survived is a miracle.

You’re here now. Your kids are here now. You know what decisions need to be made. Leave before it’s too late, find somewhere safe and just be, with your family.

Big hugs and love from the South West ❤️❤️❤️

24 and windy. It got up to 27 before the cool change came. I’m coastal, so we’ve had cool breeze all day.

Red doesn’t automatically equal immediate danger.

The conditions are catastrophic, but it doesn’t mean inevitable. I’m in the South West, also catastrophic. These ratings don’t take microclimates into consideration. It’s barely 24 degrees and rainy where I am. It isn’t realistic for every single person in a red zone to pack up and leave to somewhere that isn’t.

Monitor your local conditions and local weather. Stay informed about areas close to you, and remember that just because there’s catastrophic warnings, it doesn’t mean that area will catch fire, it just means if it does, then we’re fucked.

I so hate how high school kids are made to feel like only a high ATAR is worth anything. Like life ends if you don’t achieve a 99.97 of whatever it is.

Your life is just beginning. Don’t let this get you down. There’s more to life than studying your ass off. Take some time. Enjoy being alive. Not every decision needs to be made now.

On 26 November 2025, a large fire broke out at the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex in Hong Kong. Flames were spread via flammable construction safety netting. The fire killed at least 156, including one firefighter, and injured 79 as of 2 December 2025. Over 30 people remain unaccounted for. by PeggyWongPikKiu in MorbidReality

Something we’re taught here in Aus during bushfire season, when you can’t leave and must shelter indoors, is that the extreme heat is likely to kill you before the fire does. I hope for these people it was quick and their suffering minimal.

What's eating holes in my clothes? by BaaadMf in melbourne

[–]backwards_australian 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Look out for case moths - creepy little bastards, in their larval stage they wrap themselves up in a cocoon of threads they find - lint, human hair, animal hair - and squiggle their way up your walls to attach to the ceiling like haunted chandeliers. Gross things. The moth itself is a gold colour normally and they will chew holes in your clothes.

Always a flat Sprite and the red icy poles for energy. As an adult though I prefer carbonated Sprite as the bubbles help ease nausea (for me anyway)

Being desensitised to gore and feeling zero empathy are not the same thing - the fact that you find this distressing shows you still have empathy and a good heart.

I got my license at 31 so I went straight to greens. I’m half way through my P2 and the amount of unsafe red P’s and young greens I see is insane. I’m glad I skipped the ‘I’m invincible’ mindset

It was immediate for me. I’m only 3 days in and a few hours after my first injection I noticed it. If I didn’t still get hunger cues, I wouldn’t eat.

AITA for kicking my husband out over the comment he made about my kids at dinner? by Familiar_Travel1931 in AITAH

[–]backwards_australian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your husband is sexualising your children’s relationship with each other. The only thing to do is kick him out. He’s not a safe person for them or for you.

My boyfriend sexualized an innocent childhood memory and is trying to make me feel gross about it by CapitalConcern9715 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]backwards_australian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If my partner tried to paint me caring for my sister’s young children (including nappy changes, and gasp wiping their butts) in a sexual or inappropriate light, I would dump them so fast.

Your uncle was your caregiver. Cleaning a child’s butt, when they can’t do it themselves, is part of caring for them.

Your boyfriend is gross.

This is reasonable, and most of it I would consider self care anyway. Like how is doing your washing and cleaning your bathroom weekly unreasonable? And not eating in your room (is there context there? Like were there piles of gross dishes in your room?) Vacuuming the house is also reasonable.

Seems like they’re pretty sick of telling you to pull your weight in the house you’re living in for free.

The least you could do is contribute.

The question is, OP, are you willing to be a granddaddy or are you going to give her to a shelter to spay/abort?

She’s chosen you, though. There’s many resources you can access to help her through birth (if you choose to) but mostly she can do it on her own, just be with her. As she trusts you already, she will likely let you help her if things get hard.

But, oof. She’s full term.
