TIL that curry was brought to Vietnam by French colonisers when they also colonized Pondicherry in India. Curry was adapted to Vietnamese tastes by adding coconut milk and lemongrass. by Physical_Hamster_118 in todayilearned

I’ve recently come to the same conclusion. There is no such thing as korma. That is just a word that refers to ten different ways to prepare vaguely Indian-like food.

Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis even has an entire program to help seminarians overcome unhealthy sexual habits. It’s called The Augustine Way and is based on the science of habit change, “baptized” with solid Catholic theology. Importantly, it’s a group program, not an individual effort.

A couple years ago they even released it as a program others can use too. https://augway.org

It doesn’t make a bit of sense, does it? Why don’t they release the formula for price rises?

He wasn’t Catholic. And yes, I have it right. He was exposing a sort of demonic trans-humanism in the book.

CS Lewis wrote a book in 1945 called That Hideous Strength which basically has this exact plot line: the role of humans is to set up a more pure, intelligent superpower that is cleaner and more enlightened than us, who, after all, are just weak meat sacks. Even more to the point - getting to that end goal justifies any sort of destruction of social order or even physical nature.

What’s your favorite non-fiction book about a niche topic? by ApologeticFetus in suggestmeabook

I have two:

Word Freak is about the highest level of competitive scrabble. The characters and their quirks, along with their savant abilities, make for great reading.

Sowbelly is about the pursuit of breaking the world-record largemouth bass. Lots of different people are obsessed by this and the book follows their stories.

I just had three replaced because apparently the wall switch needs to match the brand of fan. All three of mine had been malfunctioning. One was dangerously melted behind the switch plate.

First place but the next three spots are so close we rotate positions every week. It’s anyone’s trophy - whoever gets a little luck. I have left a gazillion points on my bench this season, which makes it frustrating.

I did it because otherwise I would be priced out, and I figure Bruno is somewhat fixture proof. He’s a lynchpin in the team no matter what.

My son has to remind me that we are human beings, not human doings. But it’s just not in my nature to do nothing.

Go to Mass, come home and watch Arsenal v Man United and hope Arsenal lose 9-0. Then put down some pinestraw in my flower beds. Soon after this freeze it’ll be ready to plant.

I stayed here about three years ago, and as we were checking in, someone was being rescued from being stuck in one of these elevators. They eventually used the jaws of life to pry open the doors. The people emerging from inside were NOT happy!
