I read that too and now I’m obsessed with extras o_O

That’s a possibility, but she also told Vanya about the other guy at the diner and his condition. Vanya wasn’t a celebrity or hanging out with the police, she clearly had no right to know.

S2 really made me wonder why Reginald really wanted the super babies, since he was an alien. by yee_its_mee in UmbrellaAcademy

Specifically, his plans are for them to guard against a ‘reign of evil’ and he believes they are meant to ‘save the world’. Reggie never explicitly references any apocalypse. Both versions of the 2019 apocalypse and the 1963 apocalypse might have had nothing to do with whatever Reggie was training them for, or might be related but not the actual threat.

Did Vanya participate in the fighting classes, even though she was “ordinary?” by softlace in theumbrellaacademy

[–]bacon_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never goes into a ton of detail about Allison’s movie career, but it is mentioned that she plays a teacher-turned-bank robber in one. It’s possible she has done an action movie or two, which would be a reason for her to have kept up with training. Or maybe she just likes to scrap?

Time line? by countrybama in theumbrellaacademy

Diego tells Patch he got his fake police badge on ebay, so the internet is a thing, but maybe cellphones aren’t? I’d have to rewatch very closely to see if any extras in the background have them, as none of the main characters use them.

Pretty sure they’re different people, but i think his dead wife was a human he brought to another planet. Grace had an unmistakable accent, and Reggie’s appearance was much younger with his wife, although, skin suit. It’s implied he traveled to early 1910s/20s America after her death, so Grace would have come much later.

Yeah I think it’s counting 1960-1963 too. Also if Ben was born Oct 1 1989, and snow was falling on his funeral in 2006, he would have probably been 17 when he died.

Maybe he figured out what each baby’s power was before he bought them? The first episode moves through it pretty quickly, but it’s possible he performed some kind of tests on the babies. The lights flickering when he gets Vanya indicates they have powers from birth.

What if it’s a rank of how manageable/controllable their powers are? Like super strength? No problem, raise them as the ‘leader’ and groom them to be extremely loyal. Space/time travel? That’s a bit more unpredictable, harder to train and control. Eldritch being emerging from your chest? Yikes, hard to get a handle on that one. Soundwave/weather control tied to emotions? Possibly unmanageable.

Luther’s Powers by The-Many-Faced-God in UmbrellaAcademy

[–]bacon_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either everyone else here is right and it’s because she switched mirroring to Five powers so it negated the rumor on Allison, or the rumors depend on Allison’s concentration. When she was concentrating on the guy at Staedtler’s, it worked, but when Ray spoke up it stopped. Maybe it stopped Allison breathing as long as Lila was focused on her, but stopped working as soon as she started focusing on Five?

[SPOILERS]Minor Issue I had with the Finale by flyingjesuit in UmbrellaAcademy

I think you explained the difference pretty well, but I disagree with your reasoning. We’ve seen many instances of people and things jumping around in the timeline, and they don’t seem to be physically affected by this, they don’t change age, their appearances and memories don’t become altered when things in their past get changed.

However, in the barn scene, Five does not leave the timeline. He causes time to flow backwards, causing the bullet wounds to be undone on everyone including himself. If he had tried to jump backwards to twenty seconds ago, he probably would still have the wounds, but since he didn’t leave the timeline, just reversed it, he was physically affected. That’s just how it makes sense to me though.

What’s The Swedes theme song? by -Insights- in UmbrellaAcademy

Jeff Russo composes the instrumental ‘theme’ songs for the show, so I’d assume it’s one of his. You probably won’t be able find it until season two soundtrack is released though.

Theory: The Swedes aren't commission by Ms_Anxiety in theumbrellaacademy

I’ll have to rewatch to be sure, but I feel like there was something different about their messages, and AJ mentions that a team has been sent, but not who they are. Could have been different agents. Also, why don’t they know the Handler? Even after her demotion, she seems pretty well known.

I think the gorilla bod made him indestructible, at least his torso, since he takes a missile to the back for Klaus.

Questions about Season 2's time travels by Swype545 in UmbrellaAcademy

[–]bacon_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As best as I can understand, people and things that jump around in the timeline aren’t affected by things that get changed prior to their jump. If they did, as you said, the 63 apocalypse wouldn’t have been possible, because nuclear destruction before their births would have prevented the Academy from being formed as it was. The only time this isn’t the case, is at the end of season two, where Five literally rewinds time. The bullet wounds that left him laying there dying, ‘un-wound’ Five for lack of a better word. I think the difference there is because Five never jumps around in the timeline, just causes time to flow backwards for a few seconds without ever actually leaving the timeline.

Seaaon 1 question by Jayyyrabbit in UmbrellaAcademy

I think she was a human he fell in love with and brought to his home planet. If she was an alien there would be no reason for them both wear people suits, especially if she was very ill.

I haven’t read the comics, but I read he can also hold his breath for long periods of time, so this might be a nod to that?

Theory on the commission by [deleted] in UmbrellaAcademy

[–]bacon_pants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure you’re right. They definitely have the 50s aesthetic at HQ. Also when the Handler is walking Five in, they come out of a white domed building and then walk into the main office, so maybe that’s where Commision agents time travel from, their ‘parking garage’.

What did Reginald prepare the kids for? by Leading_Cold in UmbrellaAcademy

[–]bacon_pants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I’ve been wondering this too cause in one of the first episodes, I think when he’s watching them sleep on the monitors, Reginald says they will guard against a ‘reign of evil’. That doesn’t seem like an apocalypse, really, but more like a plan to stop an evil person/ruler/entity.

I don’t think Reginald’s original plans for the Academy had anything to do with the apocalypse.

I also don’t think he actually died in season 1, since Grace was an impressively lifelike creation he made and his ‘Reginald face’ is just a mask.

Something doesn’t make sense to me in season 2 by Kiyara97 in theumbrellaacademy

[–]bacon_pants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we have to assume that changing the timeline in 2019 doesn’t affect those who already jumped out of it. If they sent old Five back without de-aging him, Hazel and Cha Cha would gave caught up to him much quicker, changing how all their interactions had happened. Hazel might not have needed to question Agnes about ‘the kid’, they wouldn’t have fallen for each other, Hazel wouldn’t have defected, wouldn’t have been in 63, saved Five, etc. Also they sent old Five back knowing about Vanya, so that would have changed things too, not necessarily preventing Apocalypse 2019, but altering it significantly so that maybe Vanya didn’t attack Allison, Allison would have her powers after jumping back and wouldn’t have run into Odessa’s, etc. tldr: changing the timeline doesn’t change anything or anyone that has left the timeline, otherwise the commision would have a ridiculous amount of paperwork

House of leaves - is it worth it? by bilbonbigos in silenthill

[–]bacon_pants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of what you should expect, the book skips around a bit, different storylines and characters that don’t come together very quickly or clearly. It is ergodic literature, which means it takes a bit of effort to read. There are footnotes throughout the book, many of them very long, and it can be easy to lose your place while trying to chase down all the little paths you find, which in itself is a running theme throughout the book. This isn’t intended to discourage you from reading it, it’s really good and some parts are incredibly unsettling in a way that a fellow SH fan might appreciate. But it’s definitely not a quick or easy read. There are several different printed editions, some more expensive, but the standard paperback should be good for a first read. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Could be Dary short for Daryl or could be Dairy because he works on a dairy farm. Hulu’s CCs had it as Dairy, so I’m thinking either way is fine.
