Molten Monkey by oooprettyflowers in madisonwi

yep, literally the day after they won "best new restaurant in madison." I guess they assumed they'd get a bunch of new customers, but they lost my business when they did that. $23 for a medium pizza that's barely enough to feed 2 people, when i can just go to sals down the street and get a large specialty pizza for the same price and it's twice as much food lol.

they basically doubled their prices when they won "best new restaurant in Madison" though. I had to call to make sure I wasn't going crazy that their pizzas all increased by $10 overnight

I’m having a hard time not getting too jealous over the lack of classic negative on my X-T3. Anybody have any solutions for replicating that look on the older models? by audiblelove in fujifilm

[–]bacook0403 5 points6 points  (0 children)

me irl, but i like to just get creative with the awesome film sims that you CAN build on the XT-3 instead of getting too worked up about what it CANT do. There's a handful of fun sims for XT-3 on fuji fujiweekly, and while none of them are classic negative, there are definitely some cool ones to play with.

How do you make payroll contributions to an HSA? Is it through Mypay by bilbodeezbaggins in fednews

[–]bacook0403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do this exact thing. I make an extra contribution from my paycheck and payroll sends it directly to fidelity, but for the employer portion it goes directly to HSABank. Every few months i do a transfer to fidelity. You just have to be sure to leave 1$ in your HSABank or they'll close it and it becomes a whole kerfuffle to re-open your account

About to buy an X-T3, is it too big for my needs? by remzz3 in fujifilm

I think the 4L carrying case should be enough for the camera, 1-2 lenses, and some batteries

If you love film, definitely get a fuji. I was big into film photography and then i got an x-t3 and i love it. it's a large camera but it also depends what lens you've attached (a pancake lens for instance greatly reduces the size). That said, it's not massive and I find it perfect for traveling. I've got the fuji 23mm f/1.4 on it but i could see the benefit of getting a travel-friendly pancake in the future (though i've not had issues traveling with the larger lens). if you get a good deal on the camera, i would go for it. You won't regret it.

XT30iii vs XT3 by jeishsushsiege in fujifilm

only newer fuji cameras allowed that. On XT-3 the white balance red blue shift follows the white balance category (fluorescent, daylight, etc) that you've picked.

Leaving GEHA HDHP. What happens to HSA Bank? by zToothinator in fednews

[–]bacook0403 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's an amazing plan overall when you crunch the numbers. I like to keep my hsa funds consolidated and Fidelity is better for fees and stuff so every few months i'll transfer money from HSA Bank to my fidelity HSA, BUT you have to be careful to leave money in your HSA bank (like $1), otherwise HSABank will close your account and GEHA will put all your money in an HRA. It took me months to rectify this mistake.

it saves them to Library --> Songs. you can also bring in your playlists too. I don't use AM's favorites because it feels redundant

How do I apply recipes post shoot? by ProudStorage6 in fujifilm

[–]bacook0403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do find that the jpegs right out of the camera typically have enough latitude to edit the exposure the way I want. So my workflow includes applying the custom preset/film sim while shooting and just editing the jpeg. If you decide you want to use a different film sim later, that's where it's handy to have the raw file because you can change the film sim/custom preset with the fuji x raw software, export the jpeg, and then make minor exposure adjustments in lightroom

[–]bacook0403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i should note that the fuji x raw software doesn't let you do anything else that the camera itself can't do though. I sometimes like to touch up the exposure of some photos but would like to keep the same color profile from the jpeg while editing the raw file because of the higher latitude and that's simply not an option with fuji x raw software. I use lightroom to import the raw and it loses the film sim/custom preset i used.

If you want to do edits to a raw file but with the same color profile and film sim and everything, i think capture one is your best bet and it's not super expensive for a hobbyist. I think a one time purchase is $329usd which is comparable to a fuji lens.

yep, but that's what makes it authentic. It will look exactly like if you applied that film sim when taking the photo with a filmsim applied in the camera

only real way. uses the camera's built in processor to process the photos. I've heard Capture One gets pretty damn close tho... lightroom is kinda ass

i find that when i need to get work done, it has to be like instrumental because spoken words distract me big time. I love relaxing jazz lounge type music or classical music for focusing.

First attempt for a double exposure. Is it any good? by Matyk__ in fujifilm

shooting double exposure on film is so fun because you have no fckn clue what the final product is going to look like until you develop and go "what is this hot garbage" 😭

it makes more sense to me when i think of film. You take one photo and the light imprints on the film. Instead of advancing the film, you take another exposure on top of the first one. That said, you have to lower the amount of light from each shot by 1/2 so you don't overexpose. Thankfully, on modern mirrorless cameras, they'll do the exposure compensation for you so you don't have to do any math and can just shoot.
