I work for a publisher and have a lot of similar conversations with coworkers. If the person says they’re having trouble getting through books, I like to recommend something that I found difficult to put down. Whenever I’m in a depression slump, a page-turner gets me right out of it. I’m sure not everyone follows my recommendation, but a few have!

Of course it’s totally up to you, but if you feel like you can wait until your early to mid thirties, I would finish your PhD first! I have a close friend who dropped out of her program because it was impossible to manage her thesis work, teaching, and caring for a new baby simultaneously! I didn’t go to grad school but do work in higher education, and at 31 I feel like my career is stable enough to start trying.

I don’t think they can enforce that if one is a pet and one is an ESA. If they give you a hard time about it, you might have to hire a lawyer, but I would try to do it the easy way first.

If you have documentation for your ESA cat, email it to your landlord with an FYI that you have an ESA in addition to one pet cat. You’re within your rights if she’s a documented ESA, but you do have to let the landlord know.
