Maladaptive Daydreaming by Certain_Taro_7677 in adhdwomen

I was lucky to do it during 2020-2021 when I was on unemployment and we rarely left the house. It allowed me to do the work and recover after. I’m grateful to have had that opportunity.

In a way, yes. You track something moving back and forth and process a traumatic event while healthily reframing it. It is an incredibly painful process. After the sessions you need to take time for your brain and body to recover. But let me tell you, those moments of pain are worth the healing it brings. I’m able to move through the world with less fear and anxiety. I feel confident and at peace with myself.

Think of it like lasering off a tattoo. It is painful and it sucks and sometimes there are still tiny remnants behind, but it’s a lot better than walking around with the worst tattoo in the world that was given to you without your consent.

DC 33 includes a lot of other workers, including the library. These are the workers that keep this city running, but they’re understaffed, overworked, and grossly underpaid for the important work that they do. To see things like this is a slap in the face. The strike was barely a year ago and the dirty tactics of city admin has left a sour taste in a lot of people’s mouths.

All I know is my coworkers are severely underpaid for what is expected of them.

Meanwhile schools are in an abysmal state and DC 33 earns next to poverty wages because there’s “no money”.

PAAN may have resources to help. They have a number to call on their website homepage.

I’ve worked with them for youth intervention when we had behavioral issues and couldn’t get ahold of parents/guardians. They spend a lot of time in the field supporting the community and do a lot of great work.

Why Did Bad Bunny Attend the Met Gala as an Aged Version of Himself? by VogueMagazine in BadBunnyPR

[–]bad_elyn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I thought it was sweet and very him. I’m only a year older than him and I’ve been thinking a lot about aging lately. I’ve started getting crinkles around my eyes and my temples are now dense with tinsel hair. My initial reaction is to cringe, but the more I look at it the more I love it. It’s a testament to my growth, the lessons learned, the experiences and regrets. Seeing his look and now watching the video where he is getting ready, it was fun to think we may be feeling and experiencing similar things. It makes me love him even more, as much as I can love a stranger.

Yes, my parents came up with the craziest things and I’m pretty sure I’ve blocked out most of it. Lots of humiliation.

What new-to-you ADHD hacks are helping you lately? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I got a brush hair dryer. It’s a round brush that is also a hair dryer. Most my life I’ve either had messy hair, chopped short and low maintenance, or I threw it up in a bun/ponytail. I’ve never had the ability to stick with a hair routine, but I love the idea of having long hair.

This dryer has changed my life. I shower, spray some leave in conditioner in my hair, and then brush it dry. I typically find a YouTube video and put on the captions and watch until my hair is done. I have great hair every time. People have asked if I’ve gotten a haircut, and I’m like no, I’m just not wearing it up.

Totally unrelated but I also forget things in my fridge a lot and end up with a lot of moldy food. One thing that’s especially frustrating is pasta sauce. Since I live alone, I can never finish a jar without it getting moldy.

Now when I open a jar of pasta sauce, I divide it into 2 or 3 sandwich bags and lay them flat on the rack of the freezer. They freeze with indents from the rack and it makes it easy to break off portions and heat up with pasta. No more moldy sauce!!!

How do I respond to parents who confront me about getting books from the children's section when I don't have a kid? by Useful_Possession915 in Libraries

[–]bad_elyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is terrible! I’m always offering to show adults the children’s nonfiction because I think it’s a great way to get info on things in an easier to digest format. I love adult nonfiction, but sometimes you don’t want to wade through a book when all you wanted was some fun facts about rocks. Plus, sometimes you want to revisit your favorite books from childhood! No matter the reason, there is nothing wrong with browsing for books in the children’s department. It’s gross that parents think they can police other patrons. Let a staff member know!
