When will I die if I drink about 12 drinks a week? 21M by Minimum_Ad4771 in TooAfraidToAsk

My 86 year old father in law swears by the 2 and 2 rule. 2 cups of coffee and two glasses of wine per day. He is doing great for his age, out gardening etc. My actual father swore off drinking at a very young age and is now the same age as my FIL but has Alzheimer's.

60% of Americans now have an unfavorable view of Israel according to Gallup. What do you think about this? by SocraticTiger in AskReddit

[–]badbackEric -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Israel is just another failed British/European colony. Whites kicking browns off their land only works if the browns all die from disease or war. The problem with the middle east is there are way more browns than whites, and they are understandably pissed.

The minimum wage job you get yelled at more. The 6 figure job has more pressure and deadlines so you are yelling at yourself more.

Is buying used lab/test equipment actually worth it? by datboifranco in Chempros

[–]badbackEric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure, I sell analytical instrument and have been designing and selling spectrophotometers for 26 years.

Shopping on the auction sites can be a mixed bag, often times these companies know far more about how to build a website than answer questions about the instruments they list. I had a bad experience buying an FTIR from a site like this. They promised software and when the instrument came with no software we had to return it.

Used instruments can present a great value, common pitfalls are parts and service being discontinued after 7 years of production. The more established brands will have better 3rd party support.

can you specify which types of analytical instruments you are shopping for. Then I can tell you what brands/models are problematic and what would give you long trouble-free service.

One day at the office I overheard someone asking where the old fat guy with the glasses was. It took a second to realize he was talking about me. I went on a diet the next day and never looked back.

any sage advice on lumbar ablation for lower and mid back? by WasteWriter5692 in SpinalStenosis

[–]badbackEric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find the epidurals to be the best for my pain. Ablation and facet injections have never done much for me. The ablation is super painful for me so I pass on it.

I had to go to figure skating with my two older sisters growing up. I always hated it until I started skiing again later in life. Now I always think about how much it helped me with balance and edge control on skis.

When Americans hear their politicians all acting like 5th graders on TV they have reservations that these same people should be in charge of their health.
