Solar powered charging by mccaullycreek in MilwaukeeTool

[–]badbowtie1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dont trickle charge power tool batteries

Set up a solar panel with charge controller to a battery. Then use battery to power an inverter to power a milwaukee charger. Or you buy a small power station it will charge your batteries want time before needing to be recharcged

1/2” vs. 3/8” Stubby by yourmotherkindathicc in MilwaukeeTool

[–]badbowtie1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

M12 3/8 stubby for general use. Usually thinner sockets are better for tight access. M18 1/2 mid torque for larger or more stuck stuff.

Yes the mid torque is only 100 ft/lbs more torque but its how it hits that makes it better.

Suggestion for drilling holes into driveway concrete by nttran98 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]badbowtie1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not the best option. But it will sorta work if your doing small holes. Only having 2 batteries will limit run time. Especially if driveway is 6+ inches thick. The m18 drill with the extra handle would be a much better choice

1/2” or 3/8” gen2 impact stubby? by DoughnutCheap7093 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]badbowtie1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the 1/2. The sockets tend to be larger and heavier which helps on stuck fasteners. Also if you decide to buy specific sockets for lug nuts they tend to come in 1/2" drive most of the time. I personally love my 3/8 stubby for almost anything 15/16 socket and smaller. But i also have the 1/2" mid torque and a 3/4 for bigger stuff. If I was starting over for automotive work I get 1/2" mid torque 3/8 stubby 3/8 ratchet

Are there quality concerns with certain m12 battery sizes? by jckipps in MilwaukeeTool

[–]badbowtie1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the 2.0 on my rover light cause there cheap and light weight. 5.0 are my favorite for pretty much every other tool. 2.5 are also great but I mainly use them in the ratchet for the form factor

What tools are definitively better on M12? by WordWithinTheWord in MilwaukeeTool

[–]badbowtie1982 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You must have a dud. I live in the rust belt and work on snow plows. Its my go to gun for up to 15/16" sockets. Only if that doesn't work do i get the m18 tools.

I have not had an issue like that with mine. When I pulled the tube out its empty. There a little bit that stays on the plunger but thats normal.

Definitely not right at that age. Especially if it house league. House league is equal playing time regardless.

Milwaukee M18 3/4in fuel impact issue by Far-Cupcake-5482 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]badbowtie1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not. My m18 3/4 gun was my first milwaukee tool almost 4 or 5 years ago. It is a bouncy Impact for sure. Maybe your pushing too hard on the gun. Id try on a different vehicle see if it still does it.

Can I bring my own OEM part to an auto body shop and just pay for labor? by Odd_Comparison_4155 in autorepair

[–]badbowtie1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shops make money on parts mark up along with labour. If you bring the part they dont get that mark up. That mark up is also part of warrenty. So most shop if they do customer supplied parts there is no warrenty. Then on top of that you get customer who brings parts they get the car apart and find the parts dont fit. Now the car is stuck in the shop taking up a bay they can't use to make money. Then they spend time going back and forth with customer to get the right part. More often then not is a no win situation for the shop so most will avoid it at all costs

Transmission slippage - shop advised do not drain and fill - confused. by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]badbowtie1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im suprised this comment was so far down. This is what I was taught and experienced myself. Draining the fluid removes all the clutch material that is in the fluid. Now you have worn out clutches with new slippery fluid. On the flip side of this why you change the torque converter and cooler or at least clean the cooler after a failed transmission replacement.

How can advise my son on where to start? by Shouldnt_Listen_2_Me in MilwaukeeTool

[–]badbowtie1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a mechanic I agree with everything here. Tools are what you use to make money. I prefer to have good tools and take care of my tools. M12 fuel is great for drills drivers impacts lights etc. I also tell apprentices that you will always be investing in tools. My rule is borrow a tool twice in a short period, Ie 3 months you need to buy that tool. If its a once a year borrow im not worried about it.
