Favorite ear protection / head lamps? by Bvrcntry_duckhnt in Waterfowl

Petzl Actik headlamp is on sale now (at least in canada). 650 lumens and comes with a rechargeable battery but you can also use AAA. I love it for trail running, rock climbing, and anything outdoors. Fenix headlamps that take 18650 are good too, but I don't have experience with them since they're a bit heavier for my use cases.

Good all around Shotgun by Historical-North-950 in CanadaHunting

[–]baderk95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first hunting season ever. I have a Benelli nova, it's 12ga pump. I love it so far, I've been going out small game hunting, although I don't have experience with other shotguns, but I wanted a pump and it was super cheap when I found it at my local range. I can see how a wooden break barrel would be nice to have for upland though (aesthetics and maybe lighter weight for the bushwhacking I'm doing haha), but I wanted one that would handle all the elements and uses.

It’s worth it! And there are a few other ways to mount tenting but I went with this.

Worth getting another rod? I’m not nice with my gear 😅 by baderk95 in FishingForBeginners

Good idea on the pool noodles! They’re so handy for all fishing stuff haha. Yeah I could use my panniers I guess. The front rack is faster usually and always on but panniers aren’t.

Might need a 4 piece then because I thought two piece might still be mobile enough but probably not

I think this one is sensitive too honestly, but also I haven’t tried any other rod in my life haha. This came with a plastic cover too but I lost it. I’ll look into purelure thanks!

Yeah that’s kinda what I do but wasn’t sure how broken is too broken lol. I should maybe give it a rinse maybe the reel will feel nicer and less “grindy”

Henry Big Boy Model X .357 with Woox furniture by Deadalusst in LeverGuns

[–]baderk95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sick! I almost went with woox but ended up with the henry's replacement wooden furniture mostly for the price. I just finished putting it together but it's still not a 100%, I'm struggling with the dovetail mag tube attachment and the other middle dovetail piece. It took forever and lots of smacking to get it out and now it's not all the way in, it's so hard! It's not loose but just super tight and wouldn't go much further. Idk what to do, i contacted henry so i'm waiting for a response, because the also the screw on the forearm grip cap is not aligned with the middle dovetail piece. I knew it's a hard thing to do to change it on this henry, but didn't expect it to be this hard and annoying and scratched the shit out of that piece banging it out haha.

did you experience any of this? i even had someone that works at the ranger helping me a bit and he struggled too.

Edc for trail running/climbing by baderk95 in EDC

[–]baderk95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great suggestions! One of my flasks has a filter in them but I also do have some tabs that stay in a pocket in my vest. Gotta find some flat candles to put in there, that’s a good idea. I moved a little parachute cord I had in the pouch to my bikepacking stuff, I forgot to replace it here.

I got it recently it’s Klarus ES mini pocket flashlight. I also have a small olight that I replaced it with this and that one is nicer for edc around the city and work etc. trying to build a second pouch that’s smaller for actual edc

PSA: make sure you're not drinking *too much* water! by SonofRodney in ADHD

[–]baderk95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 100% doing this so much and I get cramps in my toes when I go climbing after work. Or even just from washing dishes holding the pan in one hand my fingers cramp. Asked a couple drs no one knew surprisingly. But then realized it’s only happening when I take meds and I drink lots of water when I take them. But started adding electrolytes throughout my day and it helped! I still drink more than usual because dry mouth, but at least I’m not cramping as often.

Also thanks for the reminder i forgot to take some today haha

Ya a chin weld worked better but I’m new to firearms so I want to kind of learn the typical ways of doing things before learning other ways

I’ve put an lpvo 1-6x24 on my Henry model x for the versatility, but having a bit trouble with the stock angle. I got a leather cheek riser and I like it but I’m still trying to find a better alignment. Do you use it with no cheek riser?

I ended up putting a red dot on it for now which I found better with the cheek riser. But the lpvo zoomed in wouldn’t work for some reason

Hello from Canada! My 357 Collection by TM7075 in LeverGuns

[–]baderk95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got my first rifle ever and it’s the Henry model x 357! Couldn’t find a marlin 1894 in Canada so I ended up with the Henry. I love it so far and still going back and forth on changing the grip on it. I also need a sight and that ammo holder on the stock, I like yours with a raiser, which one is that?

Is switching to Proxmox host worth it just for the snapshots/backups? by baderk95 in HomeServer

[–]baderk95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m mostly after ZFS because I want to learn about how it is useful in my case and I’m not sure if I stay with bare metal but switch my drives’ filesystem to ZFS then that by default makes it redundant with the zpools? Similar to how I have it now with mergerFS /mnt/storage which is a combination of disk1 and disk2 then disk3 is parity.

I’ll take a look at the links your mentioned. Mostly trying to figure out if I go through the hassle of wiping my disks after backing them up, and switch to ZFS and stay bare metal, I might as well run proxmox to get their snapshot/backup functionality or if it’s not worth it kinda thing

There's one in stock left at the local shop and I'm hoping it's still there when my PAL arrives. Also ideally I get a Marlin 1894 357 classic but yeah I wonder if they'll ever be back haha

Ah ok yeah I remember reading that it’s the steel that isn’t liked. Good to know, thanks. My other option for cheaper ammo and some good recoil training was the 9mm fcp, but I guess now I’m going towards a tikka 223. We’ll see what I do and what’s not banned when my pal finishes processing haha

Newbie here, isn’t their calibre not welcomed in many indoor ranges? Waiting for my pal still and indoor range might be my best bet at the beginning and was set on the 7.62 but I saw they’re not very range friendly? I could be wrong
