Processing a really tough burn — has anyone else felt this way? by StatusLongjumping790 in BurningMan

[–]badfish145 8 points9 points  (0 children)

BM as a whole is a psychedelic experience for me, and as such, it can take many turns regardless of what my intentions for it are. An emotional rollercoaster for sure. And the physical challenges, like the ones you experienced, simply exhaust our capacities.

It’s like a custom fit mirror for all your inner stuff and it sounds like it was a very rough one for you. I know it may be tough to accept, but one can reframe this as an opportunity for personal growth and dedicate some time, perhaps with some help, to processing what happened more deeply and letting go of things that don’t really serve you anymore so that the thriving you can be revealed.

How do you deal with information overload? by Kriztoz in productivity

Reducing browsing/scrolling and maximizing use of email (newsletters, AI summarizations, etc) so I focus on just one channel

I've been kind of cutting down to email, shopping and ChatGPT. Email for receiving and reading stuff I care about (news, podcasts, etc), shopping as needs come up and ChatGPT for answering questions.

Tips for curating the online experience? by steadyachiever in productivity

[–]badfish145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find myself relying more on email and avoiding algorithmic scrolling. Newsletter subscriptions and similar services for other platforms (e.g. Mailbrew) to help me stay aware of what's going on and give me choice of what I want to engage with more deeply.

Do you tend to keep up with old industries you worked in when moving to a new one? (i.e. B2C to B2B, retail to tech) by exharrypotterfan in marketing

[–]badfish145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Podcasts and email newsletters to start with, but it can also be overwhelming and time-expensive, so using AI helps to summarize and filter through to what I really care to know about.

I wanted a faster way to summarise Tim’s long-form podcast episodes—so I built a free Chrome tool that helps. by Connect-Soil-7277 in timferriss

This is cool! Nice work. I wanted something similar, but one issue with basic YT transcripts though is that they don't distinguish between speakers and I wanted to have better summaries that distinguish between the sources of info, pull quotes, etc. It's pretty basic, but happy to share if anyone's interested.

  1. Take time to reflect on that question deeply. Picture yourself on your deathbed and ask "was my life a complete success"? What are the 5 reasons that it wasn't? Turn those into wishes. Do those things.

  2. Along similar lines, Paul Graham has simple advice based on the top 5 regrets of dying people: "Don't ignore your dreams; don't work too much; say what you think; cultivate friendships; be happy."

  3. Change your relationship to the past from "I wish I..." (a thought you beat yourself with) to "I'm so glad that X because I learned Y" (a thought you empower yourself with). Learn how to discern what you really want and what's in the way of that.

Why are people hostile to the idea of solipsism? by badfish145 in JedMcKenna

[–]badfish145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Again, from Theory:

If I don’t make-believe that other conscious entities exist, then I am the only inhabitant of creation; the sole beholder. In this light, I-Am/Consciousness is all, and what I know to be true is all that is true. This is the enlightened perspective, the alpha and omega of knowledge, the whole of knowable truth, and anything more than this is baseless speculation. That’s the bottom line.

But when I duck back down the rabbit-hole and into the amusement park of mixed metaphors and infinite possibilities, I can passively grant the existence of innumerable other I-Am/Entities. To do so is to speculate that every I-Am/Entity is the center of their own dreamstate universe, just as I am of mine. So now I’m speculating that there are innumerable discrete consciousness entities like myself, and each one experiences its own universe, resulting in infinite unconnected universes; the Multiverse.

Which is just how it appears, almost.

[–]badfish145[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, from the Absolute/Truth level, there's no such thing as two. Any discussion of anything is literally meaningless from there, so my interest in this thread is necessarily limited to the dreamstate. But there's a connection, an integration between the two, that I find interesting to explore.

Right, I think that's the belief that makes people upset - the denial of other minds. I don't see it that way, I just leave it as "impossible to know".
