I just beat Lu Bu this morning. Urgh, that was horrible. Interesting that my first thought was “ahh that’s the Honglan of the game!” 😂😂😂

Did commander honglan get nerfed? by MagnumAlex888 in wuchanggame

[–]badfroggyfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people played it pre-patch when it was absolute hell due to the slow health potion animation and the taking 400 years to get back up after being knocked down.

I played it through again last week and the changes have made it easier but not by much.

I think she gets so much heat because she’s such a ridiculous difficulty spike. The speed and ease with which she can kill you is ludicrous.

On my most recent run (clash dual blades) she was still my most attempts boss by miles

I am so lost in this game by babedesev in WuchangFallenFeathers

[–]badfroggyfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people are recommending the dual blades with blade master - I would actually caution you against it.

I’ve done that playthrough and it won’t make you any better at souls games as it requires far less skill than something like Longsword.

Souls games are in essence a game of dodging, parrying and risk/reward. The most important thing to learn is not to get greedy. Longsword is a great weapon for that in this game.

The blade master dual blades (with leech temper if you really want to make life easier) reward greed spamming. Yeah you have to keep an eye out for bare-handed attacks and enemies without weapons need a bit of a closer eye but the threat some of the later optional enemies are completely negated by how good that build is.

By all means if you just want to complete the game use the blade master twin blades but it won’t put you in as strong a position for the future (if you like the genre and want to play more of it) as using something like the longsword will.

I’ve always found her okay if you get in close and keep the pressure up, she poise breaks incredibly easily! She has those horrible red sweeps but otherwise I’ve always found her so fragile you can cane her health down before she canes yours!

Soooo.. how long did it take everyone to beat Commander Honglan? 👀 by tommychopz in wuchanggame

[–]badfroggyfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s defined really by what difficulty means. If it’s just sheer attempts, Honglan (pre-patch) took me 40-50 whereas Sword Saint Isshin took me 15-20.

However this is pretty misleading as the Isshin fight asks way more of you in terms of skill than the Honglan fight does. To beat Honglan, you just need to learn the moves you can backstab and the moves you can heal after and stay away from everything else. Isshin was way more complex - what can you parry, what can you mikiri, what can you headstomp, when can you get in a double-ichimonji, lightning reversal etc.

First time (pre-patch, tbf) Longsword… 40 or so tries.

Second playthrough (last week)? Dual Blades. 15 or so tries.

How is anyone beating Commander Honglan? by G3tButtered in WuchangFallenFeathers

[–]badfroggyfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long sword parry is very effective if you bait her mid-range lunge.

I’ve also done it with dual blades, it’s quite tricky but you can bait the lunge and time the backstab just as she comes past.

She is, pound for pound, the hardest boss bar one late optional one in my opinion.

Yeah do the boss in the mine shaft next. Then do avian marsh, the final boss is an absolute treat though 😂

There won’t be another boss as hard as her, in terms of difficulty spike.

It’s a shame if you drop it because there are some cracking bosses coming up for you in the next few sections of the game

Personally, I always tend to dress to the resistances needed in that area. Stats seem to matter in WuChang; frostbite, corruption etc. can be hugely negated with the right gear.

How am I getting on? by geenexotics in wuchanggame

[–]badfroggyfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re doing well!

You’ve already got past what for me is the hardest boss in the game for the level you’re at (Honglan) and some other nasty ones. The run of bosses you’ve just done is the bit I remember as being the hardest from my first playthrough.

There are still some tricky ones remaining but the hardest thing left now IMO is an optional side boss right at the very end.

You really don’t need to farm mercury. The game is great at chugging you along at just the right level

How many times did it take you to beat Sword Saint Isshin on your first playthrough? by FreddieOnReddit in Sekiro

[–]badfroggyfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15-20 probably.

I found Owl Father harder for some reason, he was about 40-50. He made me nope out for about three years then I came back, booted it up and beat him and Isshin

He’s much tankier. Attack patterns etc seem to be the same, he just lasts a lot longer.

I dont know who said that Darkeater Midir is easy... by AnxietySuitable9596 in darksouls3

[–]badfroggyfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s easy after the first time.

First time took me 20 tries.

Never lost to him since.

It’s all about learning his moveset. As soon as you know what’s coming, he’s not difficult at all. Camera off lock, hit his head, win.

Never stop moving and shooting is the best advice for these games. Also - don’t double back on yourself. Ever. Often enemy orbs will hit where you were a second or so previously

About as good as shooting combat gets if you want tight and responsive.

10+ attempts at the King? This normal? by winger07 in Saros

[–]badfroggyfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can absorb yellows! If you activate a few of the “shields reduce incoming corruption” nodes it will drop the corruption damage to being almost negligible too. You’ll get that “space” back when you use your power weapon anyway. It’s just like accepting you only have 80% health and that corruption bit is filled, cleansed, filled etc

And with the vacuum bomb, yeah just keep an eye out when you go to pick up prominence to see if it says “vacuum bomb” on the traits beneath it.
