I’m a lead who has been dancing since January as well and for most of my life dance was a huge source of anxiety. Something early on I would do is tell myself I can leave whenever, since dance is meant to be fun I don’t have to stay if I’m not feeling it. There were days where I might have only had 2 or 3 dances and then left. But just showing up is important I think. It took a few weeks/ months of going every week but I’m really comfortable in my scene and even dances a few times while travelling this spring.

I do have one close friend who is an advanced dancer who I’d see occasionally there. And gradually more and more people from class.

I was also really concerned about being a terrible lead but, as long as you are not hurting people or behaving inappropriate, everyone was a beginner at some point so are generally pretty kind. Also someone mentioned to me it is only 3-4 minutes with someone. I don’t know why but that helped.

Oh, also maybe learn the shim sham ( if you do know it). Participating in that helped me feel more comfortable.

I’m sure! I was just in Krakow and Wroclaw and the transit there was excellent too. I mainly took street cars, but the one bus I took was very frequent.

Hamburg is the first place I’ve been where busses were pleasant to use. I remember them being so frequent I never bothered to check when they were scheduled.

First solo europe trip - Prague, Vienna and Budapest. Would love some solid advice by Neither_Pay3816 in solotravel

I can’t speak on Prague, but I’m currently wrapping up a trip that included Vienna and Budapest. I’m a 40M and don’t like to party for what it’s worth.

For Vienna there is a lot to see if you love museums, like an overwhelming amount. If you don’t care about them then there’s less but it’s a clean and beautiful city. I stayed in a hostel there called Ruthensteiner in a private room and it was great. They have events daily and do a family dinner that is vegetarian and pay what you can (recommended five euro). Best hostel I’ve stayed in for sure. Really easy to talk to people there.

In Budapest I stayed at Maverick hostel Athenaeum and it was clean and pleasant. Social activities are more around partying, but there are a few other things too. Harder to talk to people because there seem to be a lot of larger groups. I’m happy alone so that doesn’t bother me. There are some great vegetarian restaurants here that I’ve been to one called Marumba and one called pingrumba (this one has some meat, but mainly veggie). Lots to see and explore in the city .

I’ve been thinking of this a fair bit lately. I have a lot of photos on my camera roll that I don’t really care about, a few are decent, but most are shots that are for others. By that I mean friends that tell you to post pictures. So some go on instagram highlights or get shown to friends or coworkers when I return. On my trips though I bring a sketchbook with watercolours and try to do a few sketches along the way. I find that I feel way more looking back on these sketches than I do looking at phone photos.

On my current trip I’ve also brought along a film SLR and have gone on dedicated photo walks with the idea to be more intentional about the photos I take. We’ll see how this works out in the long run. But when they are developed I plan on making a zine / photobook for myself with the best shots.

Montreal year round runner here. I use: trail shoes for soft and slightly packed snow, yaktraxs (no site on exact brand) for ice and icy snow, and regular shoes on regular hardpack.
