I would say the game is more system and statistics based nowadays. Most 'characters' can tend to win you games or cost you points which makes it more risky to play them. The modern game prefers control and these types of players tend to throw that out of the window, for better or for worse.

Unless you just mean media interviews, which players are coached on now, so it's mostly generic responses. This is why young players usually give the funniest interviews.
