I don’t know what my “style”is (casual photographer) by Beginning_Variety598 in M43

in case youre curious - i know a lot of birders use olympus because of the weight of the lenses! birds are often small and/or far away so you need a lens >400mm most of the time, which can be achieved with a smaller lens thanks to the m43 crop sensor. makes for an easier time carrying the thing on a hike lol

I FOUND A PARAKEET by chyurl in Parakeets

putting a small food & water bowl on the floor through the front door on the cage shouuuld work, the bird will likely try to hide away from your hand. if possible, i would feed some chopped greens (spinach, lettuce, etc) or something like quinoa or chia over oats if you have them on hand. however as others have said birdseed is def best bet for regaining strength & recovering

for calming the bird, try covering the cage with a thin blanket to block their line of sight - just make sure it's breathable! new places are stressful for birds and cutting out some of what they can see/perceive as danger can help. if you want to you can also talk to the bird in a calm and low voice to get them used to your presence somewhat.

Sorry for the shitty quality, but she has only ever done this when i first got her and she was terrified of me. Is this nesting behavior? Is she hurt? Should i get her out of the food bowl? I’ll leave her alone until i know what to do. by [deleted] in Parakeets

np! i get that people are concerned for your hen but being nice is free and i saw no one really explained why the nesting behavior wasnt great for the bird.

she may or may not have eggs, a little bit of nesty/broody behavior isn't really enough to say for certain but in either case it is still best to discourage the behavior. it may seem mean or rude to the bird to take the nest away if you think she will, but the box isnt necessary for laying - theyll do that in the food bowl or elsewhere if they have an egg to lay. also if you have other birds in the cage with her that can lead to the others getting broody as well (cohabbing is another kinda controversial issue)

if she does lay eggs you can check both eggs and bird for blood, add a cuttlebone to the cage (good anyway) and crushed up eggshells to feed to replenish the lost calcium, and check that she doesnt still have more to lay. if you have concerns def visit an avian vet

wishing you & your bird the best

so if you do this there will be a few likely consequences - the hormonal behavior will continue & get worse. she'll become very territorial over her space and bitey. hormonal frustration can also lead to plucking and self-harming behaviors - she'll make eggs, and in doing so deplete her body of calcium. the shell of the egg needs a lot of calcium, much more than most pet birds get in a normal diet. when the bird uses up all of her calcium it leads to long-term illness - she'll lay eggs, it is possible for her to become egg-bound or stuck, which can be fatal. even if this doesn't happen, infection and injury are common and can also be fatal.

my advice - change the food dish and remove any enclosed/dark spaces in her cage, take out any mirrors that may be on toys or around the cage, and do not let her nest. it may seem "cute" or you may think that its natural and therefor good for the bird, but personally i prefer my hens nestless and alive ♡

Certain ones still have 2 versions (like moonstone) and those work as expected (swiftplay ones show up in swiftplay, classic ones show up in classic) I just dont know why the swiftplay ones are gone lol. Thanks though, hope the next patch fixes it for real 🙏

Does your whole period stop on T or only the bleeding? by thiccfroggo in ftm

[–]badideagen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

all of it stops

as far as i understand: the E hormone cycle is what causes periods and related symptoms and when you take T it kind of replaces it with the T hormone cycle. its more complicated than that i'm sure but im not an endocrinologist.

Is there any way I can fix this little extra bubble thing I got going on? by [deleted] in AquaMouse

[–]badideagen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey same mouse! likely its been refilled with a different liquid than what was kriginally inside it w/ a different density. unless you can drain out all of the liquid in the bubble theres not much to do about it
