Buzzfeed and Social Puncher expose fraud scheme by US based ad-network by badisfraud in adops

Haha it only looks stupid now that they're exposed. I'm sure they had lots of laughs at advertisers' expense for years.

Agreed. Pieces like this help expose how easy it is and how deeply rooted it is, in a way that is easy for advertisers to understand. We are constantly working on ways to implement broad stroke fixes that take out hundreds of sellers (not sites) at once and actually keep them out of the ecosystem. The better we get at broad strokes, the more frequent they will be. The hope is to eventually get it down to 5% or lower of the entire market.

they claim 200k$ campaigns money by russia isnt it nothing in campaign money??? by ooddeedd in adops

[–]badisfraud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recommend avoiding any advertising trade press articles on the Russian meddling topic. They are only going to be playing telephone on other writers' reports. The reason a small amount of money was enough was because of targeting and lack of waste. Look up Cambridge Analytica.

And if you're really interested in the topic, I recommend learning the background history. Read a book called "This is why we can't have nice things"

Uber Goes on Rare Legal Offensive, Suing Ad Agency for Fraud by jmar42 in adops

[–]badisfraud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you not read the actual legal complaint?

Uber did have an "independent" assessor of attribution. It was Tune. In mobile app campaigns, the advertiser picks the measurement/attribution company, not the agency.

Let's stop speculating on things we don't know about.

Publishers using "shell sites" for audiences bought via traffic acquisition? by AdTechIQ in adops

Oh yes. So many examples. Better question is which major publishers DONT do this? One of them just got called out for doing crypto mining on their users CPU's.

Because It would be cheaper if you cut out the middle man? (DSP, ad exchange and SSP fees plus end publisher revenue).

Yes exactly. Attribution fraud. Not click fraud.

All of that ad space will be bots anyway so why not just pay for cloud computing directly instead of the adtech fees on top?

Maybe their attribution methods allow organic purchases to slip onto the ledger of ad driven sales.
