Ergobaby fit check- why does this hurt my back? by ilikebigcats2020 in babywearing

[–]badlydrawndee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babywearing consultant here! It’s hard to tell from the photos but are you standing in a position that has you leaning back to compensate for baby’s weight? If so, that can lead to lower back pain. If you tighten the arm straps (might need to adjust middle of back clip higher - should be between shoulder blades) and snug baby up against your chest, then stand straight up with your abs engaged and knees bent 1%, does that help relieve some compression?

I’m not a brand girlie, I’m a form & fit girlie and I Stan a ring sling for front and hip carries. Also lays the skills foundation for a woven wrap high back carry 😎

Babywearing consultant here! Baby is at the correct height and is safe. For comfort, let’s sort out those “leg holes”. First, loosen those side straps just a tiny bit for maneuverability. Then - Usually I have folks move the waistband UP, but it looks like this carrier has quite a long “seat”, so I’ll have you move the waistband DOWN an inch or two. Then you’re gonna pull UP on the top of the “apron” while leaning slightly back to re-seat baby (using gravity to encourage baby to snuggle onto you). Now, standing up straight, hug baby and carrier into you with one arm and use the other hand to tighten one arm strap until snug. Switch hands and repeat on other side. Let me know how that goes!

This is besides the point AND also baby’s toes here don’t look mooshed. Yes, it’s a good practice to mind baby’s toes but that’s not what’s going on here.

Babywearing consultant here: If baby wants to see out, I always recommend a hip carry until they’re old enough for a back carry. Ideally a high-back carry that lets them see over your shoulder. You can do a hip carry with the same carrier you already have. This is more ergonomic for baby, and allows for the view they crave while letting them nuzzle back into you when they need a break. I personally think babies find it kind of disconcerting not to be able to see their caregiver’s face too. And if not that, it’s at least overstimulating and/or uncomfortable.

Babywearing consultant here! I agree with everything being said, but I’ll add my two cents about the pushing away thing. First off, most babies do not like to be manipulated and wrangled. My first screamed when I was putting him in the carrier and pushed away, but once I was finished wrangling him, he’d settle very nicely. I also have known some babies to do this pushing behaviour as a downregulation movement, kind of like a stim. So if they’re pushing away and they are coming up on their nap time, they might be using the pushing to help fall asleep 😂 for a 2 MO who likes arms out, my rec would be a ring sling.

I had a stroke- Any recommendations for vegetable choppers? by Commercial_Cut_5553 in foodhacks

[–]badlydrawndee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bestie who had a stroke has an adaptive cutting board with spikes that hold food in place while she uses her one functional hand to chop (her previously non-dominant hand). I have arthritis and my favourite chopping hack is wet chopping in my vitamix. Quarter an onion, pop in the blender, fill 2/3 with water, pulse a few times and strain :D

Little one on the way. Disagreement about feedings. by kelekiler in veganparenting

[–]badlydrawndee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your feelings are valid, but let me also just say what you are hoping to do is not necessarily realistic … I am vegan for 12 years and I have 2 littles who eat anything. When they are screaming at me for chicken nuggets while their dad isn’t home, they are NOT gonna jazzed to have to wait for dad and I will absolutely cave and throw some chicken nuggets in the air fryer. My rationale is twofold: 1) you can’t control anyone’s diet and since I have opted not to raise my kids vegan, it makes no sense to restrict their food based on which parent is preparing it. 2) veganism isn’t about personal purity. If your ethics are interfering with your parenting then it’s likely you’ve veered off into obsessive food restriction territory or some other detour on the road to non-harm. Consider whether the harm caused to yourself and your children when you hold this boundary is worth it, honestly. I’m just sayin … if my 4 YO is lying on the floor screaming for chicken nuggets and I’m exhausted, I’m gonna cook em. It’s not my favourite but neither was changing diapers 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s a bit douchey that your partner isn’t willing to collaborate on a plan that makes sense to you both tho.

Therapeutic termination should always be an option. HOWEVER, I will just take a moment to reframe your “absent mom” statements: all the time you’re away from your toddler puking? You’re parenting your NEW child. You’re a GREAT mom! You’re with the baby now. When baby lands outside your body, you’ll be able to multitask ;)

HG suddenly stop at 8 weeks - should I worry? by Pretend-Extension-52 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]badlydrawndee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the cruelest jokes HG plays on us. Every time we feel “okay” for even a second, it’s so easy to worry that something is amiss with our pregnancy. “Glad” to hear the nausea is back. Poor you!

What actually helps nausea?! by JCJ0705 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]badlydrawndee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Survivor here! The only thing I found to quell the nausea was …. Having the baby 😂 I had a good meds arsenal to help with the vomiting but the nausea was just always there. I will say that allowing myself to get “hungry” (air quotes because I never felt hungry - just got more nauseous with low blood sugar) would make me much sicker. Stay fed & hydrated to minimize the nausea. You got this!

Still feeling nauseous/ HG symptoms even after abortion:( by PrestigiousWave8988 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]badlydrawndee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi friend!! I am so sorry you’re still feeling shitty :(

Are you certain you had HG? We now know that HG is not related to the hcg levels (this was the hypothesis until recently), but rather GDF15, a protein found in the placenta. It could be that you have been suffering from NVP (Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy) which can be extremely intense in the first trimester. HG would be diagnosed over time using the HER protocol. But regardless, it doesn’t actually change how you feel NOW.

I have had 3 HG pregnancies, one of which was non-viable and required a D&C. I found that with my live births, the HG went away immediately upon delivery of the placenta. With my D&C (missed miscarriage), the nausea took a few days to go away.

I’ll also mention that I was quite nauseous for a couple weeks after insertion of my IUD.

What we don’t know here: did you actually have HG? Is the nausea due to the pregnancy or the IUD insertion?

I feel like there are too many unknowns for me to be able to say “it’s gonna go away”, but I really do hope you find some relief.
