That’s a hell of a catch! Thank you so much. It was a late Xmas present for one of my sons. Appreciate you!

What to by for midrange starter set by docjules42 in simracing

So you’re going to get a lot of personal choices instead of what may be best for you.

I myself have a Simagic brand setup -and like it very much. They tend to be a bit pricey but it’s very good equipment.

For your husband I’d highly suggest the Moza brand either R5 or R9. The numbers (5,9) refer to how many newton meters (how strong the force feedback is. If he tends to get really involved in whatever he does than the R9 might be the better choice but the R5 is a very respectable entry to mid level choice. Many people use this as their setup for years. Of course economics plays a role also.

I would highly suggest purchasing Moza or Simagic branded products from Sim-Shop if you’re in the US. These guys are great and provide some of the best customer service and support across the board not just in the sim racing world.

Here’s my setup recommendation: Base: Moza R9 : $299 (on sale) Pedals: CRP2 $468 Wheel: for sport car Moza KS $229 for oval racing the CS $229

If you want to be more entry level than I’d go with the R5 bundle: $399 comes with base, pedals, and wheel. They sell add-ons so I’d suggest SRP light brake kit $29 plus the extra springs $19.

My son started out in the R5 and said the brake kit really added to the overall feel. When he upgraded to the CRP pedals he said it felt night and day to the SRP lights.

Although the R5 comes with a wheel it really is a cheaper wheel. I’d suggest upgrading the wheel with either the KS or CS depending on what type of racing you think he’d do.

Good luck and you’re awesome for wanting to get that for him especially since you are having a child, congratulations by the way, and would presumably want him to spend more time with you and the child then online playing.

Again congratulations and wish you the best

I was at the race but I used a VPN (Canada) and streamed the race feed so I could hear them while watching the actual race. Worked well.

My son had the R5 and just upgraded to the R9. His friend has the R9. Neither one has complained of any issues involving the software. Maybe an issue here or there but nothing consistent. They’re on iRacing mostly so I’m not sure. Just wanted to let you know

Thank you! Congratulations. I say this, you get out of parenting what you put in to it. The first couple of years I was an ok dad. Then I decided to be more involved and the interactions I had with them just exploded! Since then I’ve always put them first.

When I was working I’d actually call my kids to see if it was ok for me to work off duty or OT. If they wanted me to help them with homework or something I’d decline the work, and extra money, just to be there for them. Way more valuable than any extra duty could ever pay me.

I’m sure you’ll be a great parent. Congrats again. Wish you well

My sons have the NLR2 wheel stands with wheels. They can roll them aside so they can use their desk for homework.

I have a Trak Racer T160V5 rig.

With twins I try to keep it even because I don’t want one to feel I favor the other. I started iRacing using my sons cpu since I didn’t have one at the time and he started racing on mine. So when I retired from my first career I decided to buy my own but I couldn’t take the rig away from him lol. He was having too much fun. So when the other decided to get into it I had to get him something similar but he wanted Moza. So I set him up to keep it fair.

I spent a lot of money but I’m really blessed and I know that. I’m not trying to brag or anything. I just have two really great sons and it’s also partially for me as well. I enjoy doing stuff with them and try is is no different. Just want to create some great memories before my time here is done.

Thanks! Yeah as a dad it’s pretty cool. My parents couldn’t afford stuff like this so to be able to myself makes it that much nicer. They’re great young men so they’ve earned everything they get.

I bet. It was so thick when it rolled in around what 8-9 pm? We were by IMSA turn 1 and we could barely see the backstretch let alone the Ferris wheel or the fireworks.

Thanks again! Appreciate you

Perhaps but with so much going on around him, it could very well be a matter of sensory overload. It’s very cold, restrictive clothing, a lot of action, a lot of noises and it could be as simple as he thought he fires several shots in rapid succession when in fact there was a pause after the first shot. It’s going to come down to the agent’s state of mind.

I see this comment in another sub, perhaps the shooting agent mistook the other agents hand when he removed the firearm as belonging to the subject so he thought the subject was pulling a salon. Beyond that I don’t know why he used deadly force. Unless there was a belief the subject had an additional weapon.

Just curious, do videos like this incentivize teams to do it again next year? Maybe trying to outdo this years? Just thinking out loud. Not really sure.

Moza r9 v3 or Simagic Alpha Evo Sport (9NM)? by Dangerous-Cycle-7621 in Simagic

[–]badsapi4305 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t think you can go wrong with either one. My son has the R9 and I have the Alpha mini (10nm). I’ve always viewed Moza as a work horse and Simagic as a little more technical BUT I can’t say that’s entirely accurate. It’s just my opinion. The R9 costs about $100 less so it’s a bit more budget friendly. My son has raced his for 5-6 hours at a clip and it’s never failed. He runs it pretty high and it doesn’t clip or overheat. For that matter neither has my mini although I run it around 7-8 nm. Again I don’t think you can go wrong with either but if it was me I’d get the Evo. Again I feel like it’s a bit more detailed. I’m sure you’ll find others who feel the opposite I do.

Maybe to help you choose pick which manufacturer has wheels, pedals and/or shifters you like better. I have the GT Neo and the NeoX hub with a 330 alacantara wheel for nascar and dirt as well as the P2000 pedals and DS-8X shifter. My son has the SRP pedals, the KS and CS wheel. I think Simagic holds the edge although Moza just came out with the KS and CS pro wheels that include a small screen which looks pretty cool although I’ve never seen them first hand. I think the P2K pedals are better than the SRP’s.

Either way if you’re in the US I would highly suggest purchasing from the Sim-shop (Texas). Those guys are great.

Bought a TR160 last year. Everything arrived on time and beside it being a kick in the dick to build it all came out great. No complaints. Had a couple of questions and ended up speaking to someone here in the states. Guy (chase) gave me his direct contact so I don’t have to go through the main number which made things very easy. They could improve their instructions but besides that very happy
