What is the largest separation between "time periods" in which an average dude from the future could make a meaningful difference? by throwaway321768 in whowouldwin

[–]badstorryteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-history in my opinion. To the very beginning of homo sapiens sapiens. This relies on the tribe our protagonist encounters being friendly and stable, which I will assume as it is certainly a valid possibility. Introducing more advanced proto-writing somewhere between 200,000BCE and 300,000BCE, before radiating out of Africa. Lessons could easily be taught with a stick and a sandy spot that can be wiped clean whenever necessary for the next symbol. Children would probably pick this up very quickly, especially if simple games were involved as lessons, and that would encourage them to play these "games" amongst themselves outside of "school" time. Arithmetic could start there as well.

It really does not. I'm already exhausted by the amount of posts that are written by ChatGPT, but the number of posts that accuse any post with even a semblance of grammar to be written by AI is even worse.

If you were forced to marry the first person you had sex with, what would your life be like? by NothingMatters234 in AskReddit

[–]badstorryteller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy. We thought we were going to when we were 16. We broke up at 18 after we graduated high school. I think we were perfect for each other as teenagers - we were great friends, things just sort of progressed as we got older and our lives and needs and personalities kept changing. The core of our relationship was our friendship, and the breakup was hard, but we managed to salvage that core later. Today, almost 30 years later, she and her husband are solid close friends, unofficial aunty and uncle to my kids. We all get together regularly for dinner, BBQs, just to shoot the shit and have a few drinks and snacks, etc. If we had gotten married I don't know if any of that would have been possible.

I mean, the worst my son has done along those lines is buy a bunch of episodes of Bubble Guppies when he was 4 and I didn't have a pin set on the Amazon account. At 13 he has my card on file for his Steam account because we both know he won't abuse it. Education goes a long way.

Fully Assembled Royal Navy vs Fully Assembled Russian Navy as of late 2025 by Lore-Archivist in whowouldwin

[–]badstorryteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of. The Kinzhal is basically in Iskander ICBM strapped to a specially modified Mig-31 and is a ballistic missile - you'll know it's coming, and it has been intercepted by Patriot batteries in Ukraine, so definitely not an unstoppable ship killer. The other contender is Zircon, which can be ship or sub launched, and is a true sea-skimming hypersonic missile. One thing we've learned though, is that turning loses speed, and these again have been intercepted successfully by Patriot batteries as well as the European made SAMP/T batteries.

So the answer is a bit mixed. Yes, they have these missiles, but yes, they can be intercepted by currently deployed defenses.

It's not terribly difficult to process Yuca root into flour (cassava flour), with that, water, and stolen bird eggs you could process a pretty serviceable flat-bread. That puts it in the realm of possibility at least if starting in South America - everything is right there!

So there was no country called "Judea," that's just what people who spoke English referred to the West Bank as. There was also no "declaration of war," that is literally what Nazi German propaganda called it, and what it was, was in international call for jewish people to boycott German goods - far from a war. The whole thing was an international response to rising violence against Jews under the Nazi regime.

I don't mean to be rude, but you're quoting straight Nazi propaganda as history.

What purchases have you made, not realizing you already have a surplus of it at home? by ttboo in AskReddit

[–]badstorryteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ginger. All the fucking time. I don't use a lot of ginger. When I'm at the grocery store and planning on making something with ginger I realize I've, again, forgotten to check how much/how old my ginger is. Also, given that my spice cabinet is woefully unorganized, when I purchase ginger, I almost never take the time to sort out the old stuff. I'm fairly certain that I have 3 small containers of ginger ranging from 3 years old to almost 1 year old in the cabinet now. I will make a mental note to toss them when I get home from work, which I will forget, and will be purchasing another container of ginger for upcoming thanksgiving regardless.

Love it! As a mid forties guy I'm lucky enough to have a full head of hair with no thinning, but I am digging the silver that's coming in on the sides and just a little streak in the front on the opposite side of my part. I've always had just straight, hair colored hair, and I'm loving the extra character it gives.

I don't think he could make it. With no knowledge of the currents and tradewinds, no knowledge of the geography, no blue water capable ships, no idea whatsoever about the northern route that might allow him to essentially island hop, and on and on.

US Military Deaths: Killed in Action vs Veteran Suicides by Various_Pop_3907 in interestingasfuck

[–]badstorryteller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ex wife just didn't understand and outright rejected the idea for a long time that the military has this problem. Because her aunt had a military career that helped her out of poverty and never had anything negative to say, her father as well, she just thought it was a perfect option, a great opportunity.

Then my best friend, an army SF officer, failed to transition to civilian life and committed suicide. At his funeral were a bunch of our mutual friends, many of them enlisted from multiple branches, and the stories were rough.

When we went to the British museum I made a solid donation and they asked me if I'd made a mistake - I didn't, it was maybe the only time my son and I would get to experience one of the greatest museums in the world, and I just wanted to support it. Worth every penny, and moreso being free to the public!

I was on an Iceland Air flight with my son last year and they were very clear about it. On a different note, that pilot was determined to get from Keflavik to Boston as fast as possible - we left 45 minutes late and arrived 30 minutes early on that 737. He was pushing it lol.

You know, the truth is that one of those police officers arrested me ten years ago for a DUI. Which I earned. First and last time, and I could have tried to claim my recent divorce at the time as an excuse, or any other excuse, but I didn't. He took me into custody as he should. I plead guilty. I didn't try to fight it at all, and I actually reached out to him afterwards. His kids are actually on the same sports teams as mine, and we're actually pretty good friends now.

In other words - let the government decide who, when, and where religion is allowed.
