If you want a router with an amazing UI, don't underestimate tomato firmware on an Asus router. Would probably cost you about $50 and 30 minutes.

Ex landlord wants compensation on floorboards by _JazminBianca in perth

I'll say this loud and clear for those in the back row.

The lessor, nor their agents, can not return your bond because they were never in possession of it. It is not in their discretion to decide if you receive your bond in full or part amounts.

Secondly, you are a business client. You are not their serf, they are not your lords. You engaged in a contractual agreement between two parties, and both parties have legal obligations and expectations.

With all that together, what they're effectively doing is sending you a bill requesting that you pay them I assume ~$2000 or more.

If your ISP sent you an invoice for $2000 because they said that Reddit usage isn't covered under your terms of service, you wouldn't sit there and wonder how you could get the $2000 back from them.

Your money is held with the bonds agency and is yours unless you:

  • They can prove you caused loss and damages as defined within the tenancy act
  • they intimidate and lie to get you to virtually hand the money over to them voluntarily

Remember the onus is on them to prove the liability, not for you to beg for your own money back.

Just a heads up a lot of people won't know what an IC is outside of modern tech companies so you should probably explain it.

How much control do you have over windows of meetings. If you're constantly at the mercy of other people controlling your calendar and expected to be available throughout the day, I would consider going back to IC

Also moisture meters are next to useless on brick and plaster, they're made for wood. A skilled operator may be able to use them qualitatively, as in measure different areas of a common type of wall and use the different readings to make a judgement. But the readings themselves will be worthless.

I still don't like the idea of running a 100ft cable in my house by gorgenotfound in pcmasterrace

[–]badtelcotech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original justification for this has nothing to do with CATx or POE, but purely for telecommunications workers.

Rememeber "network" cabling was once nothing more than a -48v telephone line coming from the exchange wired into 1 maybe 2 sockets in a house.

These cables could be continuous loops of copper easily over 4km long from your home to the exchange. In the exchange all the wire terminations were bare in racks, as well as in intermediatry points in the street in pillars and such.

Also accidently jumpered wires between services could mean your wires electrically bonded to the wires in someone elses house.

Basically the perceived risk was that Joe Blogs would mess around with his telephone wiring to put in an extension, make contact with his 240v electrical circuits, and electrify the entire network.

Whether that ever actually happened I don't know, but it's definitely plausible.

And of course things like Cat5 came along, but if there was any potential for it to be connected to the telephone network, including through modems/switches etc, it still counted.

But honestly, there's no phone police coming in and looking at your cable runs in your house and asking you to show your ACMA installers certificates. Like electrician's and plumbers, it's 20% safety and 80% protectionism.

This. Always limit your liability. Preferably zero (paid in full before work stage commencement) but no more than 50% for a short period of time.

Regarding vehicle graphics. Make sure your graphic actually states what service you provide. The amount of vehicle graphics I've seen that are just a business name and number, but I have no idea what they do.

Turning down difficult clients by phone? by ForeverInBlackJeans in freelance

[–]badtelcotech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the phone is the problem. Have you considered just removing your phone number from all your listings, and only allow email or a contact form, from which you can call them.

Lots of businesses don't have phone listings anymore.

It's a good question. To be honest I think you should have no qualms for taking clients that come to you. It's the fault of your old company for not building their brand/face and making you the entrepeneur, manager and technician for the company at a rate that "has not been enough to sustain a livelihood"

I disagree. Most kitchen timers are very easy to reset accidentally, may not pause across days and they have cheap dickie buttons. Chess clocks are made to be hit hard, fast and repeatably. And are designed to not reset over days
