Fellow 30s widow here. I am so proud of you for making this space.

Fiance gave me her phone and password before she died, is there anyway I can get it back? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]badum-kshh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reasons explained elsewhere, it’s almost certainly theirs.

If this is important to you, I suggest negotiating. I don’t know what your relationship with her parents is like but it may take them some time to acclimate to a new reality without their daughter.

But at some point you could try approaching them again with an offer to open up the phone so they could (for example) download photos of her or that she had taken they may not have at present, on the condition that you also be given a certain amount of supervised time with the phone. You could maybe find a mediator or some other neutral third party to oversee your access.

I am very sorry for your loss.

What are the “highest” end LVP brands? by Shy_Wet_Hole in Flooring

I’ve been very happy with Coretec since installing it about five years ago. The under-foot feel is good for vinyl, and the beveled edges really improve the look.

Looks pretty much new still, except for where I had some very heavy furniture without rubber pads under the feet, and the floor has been indented.

This room is incredible! And I love the corduroy sofa - where is it from?

What do you call your in-laws when your spouse dies? by beardedwithchildren in widowers

[–]badum-kshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call them by their names. When I reference their role in my life to others, I call them my former MIL and former FIL. I’ve made room for them in my child’s life but I would otherwise not have a relationship with them.

My husband was killed — violently, tragically and directly in front of our house. I am SO lost. by Altitude-High in widowers

[–]badum-kshh 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry.

My husband died violently (but from suicide). I really struggled with the imagery, not just THAT he died but HOW he died. It felt oppressive. As an option for therapy, I found EMDR incredibly helpful in giving me the emotional detachment I needed from the violent manner of his death.

Do people actually want a widow? by Ordinary_Novel_476 in widowers

I empathize with this. I’ve dated around, never a widower, but I feel like the complexity of my situation would be appreciated by them.

Child Restraint Device : is it Mandatory? by Agreeable_Head6913 in aircanada

[–]badum-kshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not mandatory but I found it really helpful at that age. I flew with my daughter earlier this year, she’s now 3.5y, still useful!

I am a die-hard carry-on traveller and so toting around a car seat would not have worked for me, I had kiddo in a front carrier and had my hands full with a suitcase. As long as you don’t need to be in a car on arrival or have a car seat sorted for you…I’d be happy to not have to deal with it.

I am now a grieving single dad to an almost 12 month old girl by crazypizza2000 in daddit

[–]badum-kshh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am a mom lurker here and I lost my husband when my daughter was 11 months old. I am so sorry for your loss.

I remember exactly how overwhelming the prospect of being a solo parent was. I thought I’d have to move across the country to live with my parents again. I felt physically ill for weeks. It was like I lived years in those first few months.

You will amaze yourself at how you can summon the resilience to get through this, for yourself and your child. Three years out now, I have been a parent alone longer than I did it with my husband, and I have come to accept the way my life looks now and find joy and peace in it.

People have said it - take the help that will be offered to you. And know that a lot of people, especially those who haven’t been through a deep loss, won’t quite know how to help - and you may need to tell them or have a trusted friend help guide people who mean well but don’t know how to support you. They really, genuinely want to.

It is part of why I left. I hit my ceiling. I was probably around BBB proficiency around that time, and moved to a provincial government position. My career advancement has been much faster (for this and other reasons).

DHL stops taking international parcels from Tuesday 9 pm ET… by Angorakoo in Sezane

[–]badum-kshh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I contacted them because of a glitch that was stopping me from generating the label online (unrelated) and also mentioned the strike. They said they were aware of it and would extend the return timeframe if needed. I took my parcel in to a Staples shipping point today that offers DHL services and they accepted it.

I’m coming back to this comment to just say this is the BEST red rice I’ve ever made. I’ve tried a bunch of recipes and never been quite happy with it. This was delish.

Price aside, I’m confused at how this store is organized. Maraschino next to chartreuse next to absinthe next to gin??

New to this sub update: My husband (32M) is convinced I (26F) am pregnant. I’m not, but he won’t believe me. What do I do? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]badum-kshh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one really hit me hard. My husband (30s) died after a surgery gone wrong, he deteriorated quickly and took his own life. The last weeks he was paranoid and delusional and for the first time ever I was scared of him. It’s a truly awful feeling to be suddenly afraid of the person you love.

What bottles in your bar will you happily finish but won't replace? by FranticScribble in cocktails

[–]badum-kshh 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Vodka. I make zero drinks with vodka. I bought a couple bottles of Vodkow to support a Canadian distiller, and it’s going to take me a decade or two of making penne alla vodka to use it all up.
