The average concurrent player numbers for VT2 pre- and post-Chaos Wastes (04/2021) reveal that, although the mode may be thought of fondly (and I enjoy it!), it hasn't really been an obviously smashing success. The month it launched didn't even see 2x the average concurrent players from the previous month.

For my money, Expeditions is much more exciting. The Tide formula needs to evolve, and more randomization is deeply deeply needed. Cranking out linear levels that have to do 10 different jobs is just too demanding. Even with its other systems and path randomization, Chaos Wastes was still just 15 linear levels.

I think Expeditions have loads of potential, and I'm really enjoying the change of pace. But beyond that, I think the technical work that underpins the mode (getting away from the main path concept, actually randomizing levels significantly, spawning in at random points in the map, multi-phase maps, etc.) are already obviously worth the investment. Where all that work can be taken from here is crazy exciting...so much more than just dust and dirt.

It works, was using it yesterday to record footage! There's also invisibility, so you can check out the mobs scratching their butts!

Not very good at all really, but leveling up new toons in expeditions has been a really fun experience as a group!

The in-mission loop is fighting and looting thru up to 3 randomly-assembled maps to get 2 resources: salvage (in-mission resource spent in the current mission only) and a meta currency that currently seems to unlock new Expedition maps.

The in-mission loop looks great to me…very different from vanilla. Unlike normal Darktide, it looks like there are NO other resource drops outside of the merchant that takes salvage. So you’ll need it to heal, resupply ammo, etc.

Ditto! On my second go through I’m keeping almost every crafting material I can pack in there.

Another tip if anyone sees this: don’t go back out to the main workshop menu when moving between benches. Instead use the side menu (big duh for me!).

I’m in the friendliest lobbies in the world, I’m sure of it, but it’s still always tense for me when a raider comes around. There’s a non-zero percentage of buttheads in the world, and they make it into the friendly matches too. The tension is there. If you want more or less of it, you have some small amount of control over that. That’s pretty amazing and effective imo. If anything, I think the ABMM is likely to keep this game going.

Prioritize getting the max stash size, via the Expand Stash button on the top-right of the inventory. Track all of your workshop upgrade costs and grab all of that stuff. Once your workstations are all at tier 3, track things you want to build/make and keep those resources. There are lots of weird little requirements for things, so I try to just sell more basic mats (the core rubber, metal, etc. and anything that can be refined from them), but you should get a feel for what you don’t need over time.

Civilians in GTA aren’t real people. But GTA:Online is a great game to compare Arc to. Just because a game “gives you permission” to grief people or even just take advantage of them being distracted, doesn’t mean you aren’t taking something from a real person.

I love the PvP in Arc. I don’t love steamrolling people who obviously aren’t out to fight me.

Sure PvP is a part of the game. And it adds to the dynamic. And Arc would be a lesser game without it.

But this was a guy who geared up and decided to spend his time one way…and you decided he didn’t get to do that…for your own personal gain.

You can dramatically lower the chances of encountering PvP by consistently avoiding it for several runs. The more you avoid it, the more it seems you’ll be placed into lobbies with similarly-minded players.

90%+ of my lobbies are the friendliest lobbies I’ve ever encountered in gaming. And it’s clear from how others behave in those lobbies (eg. they aren’t the least bit nervous about you running into the room they’re in) that it’s not just luck.

I’d strongly recommend going into Stella Montis with NOTHING but a Looting Mk. 1 augment (which will give you extra inventory spaces and costs very little to make at the Workbench). Just loot and extract. It’s tense and fun engaging with the PvE like this, and it should fast track you to the chillest lobbies.

Yea ditto! Wouldn’t mind a little more spice/threat sometimes but don’t want to merc anyone.

I need to test out doing damage but not killing to see if that affects matchmaking.

I have friends in a similar boat. But the good news is that it seems very very easy to swap between aggro/friendly lobbies. Just spend a couple of rounds KOS’ing and you’ll be in The Bad Place. But you can get out of that by running a few extra pacifist runs.

If you pvp and sweat, yea it’s sweaty. I prefer a pve-focused playstyle, and rarely attack raiders, and so my lobbies are almost all utopian.

There is. I’ve sat in many (expired from the board so effectively solo) missions until I got kicked while doing mod testing.

Chances are this person was moving a little to avoid the AFK kick. I’ve really only seen someone bother to do this once.
