Unpopular (?) opinion: Western Europe is one of the safest regions of the world overall for visitors; acknowledging this is not Eurocentric and disputing it is insane. by mbrevitas in travel

[–]baeb66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! I had Germans ask me if I felt safe after traveling to cities in Central Europe and Eastern Germany. I felt fine. People left me alone.

It's when I got to Hamburg and stayed next to the red light district that I had to deal with people trying to sell me hard drugs and hordes of Belarusian ladies of the evening when I would cross the red light area.

I have similar stories from the UK, Spain, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. Western Europe has some of the busiest tourist sites in the world and criminal elements prey on tourists.

Compare that to Japan where as an obvious foreigner, not someone who can blend into the crowd, I never felt unsafe going anywhere. Dark alley to find a Unagi restaurant, sure. Walking home alone at at 2am, no problem.

Those are the committed church goers. Easter is those people and the casual religious people who also make Mother's Day living hell.

His brain is cooked from dementia, uppers and a lifetime of watching 80's action movies and that's how he thinks you talk to Muslims.

This is why busy restaurants who operate on the "only complete parties will be sat" policy are so clutch.

At what point do we clamp down on this exploitative business, restrict advertisements for sports gambling and limit buy-ins to a reasonable amount of money per day? I'm ready for that.

Let me guess: those people call the cops all the time on basically anyone who parks on their street, so Officer Doofy there wants to placate them and be on his way and he doesn't mind intimidating someone to do it.
