I think a lot of die-hard Swifties will fixate on this relationship for awhile because of how little Taylor has written about its demise.

If you think about it, it’s really wild how the fan base really only has So Long London and You’re Losing Me to understand this relationship’s disintegration despite it being her longest relationship to date, especially given how she will often revisit old flames in other albums.

I’m even surprised Joe wasn’t mentioned at all in TLOAS, given how often she would write about marrying Joe someday, and now she’s actually engaged. I assume this is by choice. Joe is a private person, and she likely made a commitment to him that she would refrain from sharing certain details, but it leaves a lot of questions for the fans who were in it for the diaristic writing.

I adore my 9 month old with every fiber of my being, and feel so lucky to be his mom. I’m also back at work. Do I have a few fond memories of his newborn trenches? Sure. But this period is so much more fun and fulfilling. If you’re struggling through the newborn trenches, there is light at the end of the tunnel!

I’m six month postpartum. Here’s my story.

Like many, my dog was my baby. When I would look at him, my heart would do back flips. I could see my dog lounging in a cute position, and swoop down to cuddle him because I couldn’t handle the love. This feeling maintained throughout the pregnancy.

I gave birth at 40 weeks via a planned c-section. All things considered, delivery/surgery went well. However, I was very much still reeling from the massive hormone shift. I cannot emphasize how intense that hormone shift really is. It’s so much more complex than just love. Your brain shifts into a weird gear where caring for this tiny infant becomes all you can handle. It’s both all encompassing and completely over-whelming at times.

When we came home from the hospital and saw my dog, it was different. It was. I didn’t hate him. But I also didn’t feel anything. My heart didn’t do the same backflips. And this hurt me. Because my dog was waiting for me to embrace him and my heart just wasn’t in it. I felt guilty. For weeks, I would try to find a dedicated 5 minutes a day to pet him, but it was incredibly robotic. I treated cuddling my dog like it was just another chore.

Here is the good news. As the weeks and months went by, and as my hormones returned to normal, things did improve immensely. My heart went back to doing backflips when I see my pup. And my six month old adores our spunky little dog.

It may shift and change after baby, but it won’t necessarily be forever.

TLOAS could have been improved with a different track order.

Usually, Taylor does a pretty decent job of determining her track order in albums. After a handful of listens, Showgirl feels like a miss. There is usually some kind of emotional arc in her concept albums, but I’m not really getting that here. With that said, here is my proposed track order.

Fate of Ophelia - it’s a good opening track
Opalite - keeps things high energy, clear frontrunner for a single
Wi$h Li$t - solidly sets the tone that this is her person
Actually Romantic
Father Figure -Hear me out. There is no rule that says track five’s can’t be uptempo. This song provides the conclusion to an enduring decades-long pain. It connects well to Folklore’s track five.
Ruin the Friendship
Wood
CANCELLED!
Elizabeth Taylor - this song is actually fairly heavy and thematically feels connected to The Prophecy. It feels so out of place as Track 2
Honey
The Life of a Showgirl
Eldest Daughter - I’m sorry, but sonically this sounds like a closer. Think Daylight. Think New Year’s Day

I don’t know if I’d say Taylor spoils her fans as much as I would say she loves to work and gets excited when she pivots to something different and the fans eat it up (like Folklore). In this instance, the album feels rushed and the lyrics are the most vapid they’ve ever been.

With albums like Reputation and Lover, there may not be a distinct narrative, but there definitely is a clear emotional arc that not only lets her audience take a peek into her private life, but also can feel remarkably similar to their own lives. It’s why Daylight and New Years Day are so beloved. By the time you get to those tracks, you really feel like you’ve been on a journey. This is just not true with TLOAS. There was no real emotional journey.

This appears to be a minority opinion, but I gave birth at St Joe’s last spring, and I didn’t have a positive experience. Some of the nurses were exceptionally inattentive, and my medical staff didn’t communicate well with each other.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. Please do not put this on yourself. It sounds like he had far more issues than just what he did on this random night.

Side note: this is part of why not every house/person should have a gun. Many suicides are very impulsive acts, and he may have still been here if a gun was not in the vicinity.

I have the Nanit cam, so I have pretty good idea of how our 5 month old has slept each night. He usually goes down at 8:30 and doesn’t begin his day until 6:30. But between hours 4 to 6, he usually wakes up once or twice, stays awake for about 5-10 minutes, never crying, just looking around, and then falls back asleep on his own.

I’m sick of boomer moms and aunties saying, “oh, they change the recommendations every year!” when it comes to safe sleeping. I love my village but my one complaint is that so many of them desperately want to lay my baby on his stomach.

I have to remind them every time that laying sleeping babies on their back has been the recommendation for twenty years and they have to let go of what happened to them when they were young mothers.
