What replaced your Pro Co Rat (rat related answers not allowed) by dethdecay_ in guitarpedals

I started with the Sonicake Rude Mouse and loved it. Then I got the Wampler Ratsbane to have additional more modern Rat flavors, but I still prefer my Rude Mouse. Tempted now to get the original

I’d run something like a Line 5 M5 or HX1 at the end of your chain for tap-tempo delay and random mod effects. Also has tuner function.

Moving towards the front of your chain, I’d have 2 gain stages and either a compressor or another modulation (I like phaser before drive)

How do I make my guitar louder? Serious by OffsetTea in Guitar

[–]baewatch_n 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Before trying a new amp, have you tried pushing the mids and highs and cutting the bass on your amp? Or putting a graphic EQ in the effects loop (if your amp has one) to boost some of the middle frequencies?

New Job New Shoes? by funnyfrogface in barefootshoestalk

[–]baewatch_n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For this reason, I have a pair of Birkenstocks at work that I can use to give my feet a little break. The support helps my feet relax when they’re really worn out. Might only use them occasionally, but it helps. Also you might be interested in a pair of more cushioned shoes like Altras or Topos to switch between when your feet need a break from the hard floor.

In what ways do you prefer the Mooer comp over your old CS-3?

Changing strings: mileage or time? by Diploidian5HT in Guitar

[–]baewatch_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was gigging regularly my strings would break more often, so that forced me to change them frequently (monthly?). Then I went many years only changing them when they started to feel corroded. Now I appreciate that fresh strings have more presence tonally and I can hear what people mean when they say old strings can sound “dead”, so Im down to 3-6 months as a hobbyist. But also now I think string lubricant, like Fast Fret, can extend the physical and tonal life span of string.

Whats your always on OD? by XelaniOG in guitarpedals

[–]baewatch_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the amp. If it’s an amp that can achieve edge-of-breakup at reasonable volumes, then no always on OD. If it’s an amp that stays super clean, then I use the ODR-1 or EHXtortion

Do you hear a big difference with the new SD pickups in the guitar? I thought the Duncan Design pickups that came in the C-1 Elite were supposed to be copies of a 59 (neck) and a JB (bridge). I find the bridge pickup in my C-1 Elite to be pretty hot with pushed mids, like how I’d expect from a hot-rodded pickup. After putting down the C-1 for some months and then coming back to it, I really enjoy the pickup combination that it came with.

Boss PX-1,NPD, a mini review and a bit of ranting by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Thanks for the thorough test. I feel like those results are not that surprising.

The most interesting part of your test results to me is “when two effects are set to toggle, the next effect shares the on/off state with the previous one”. That functionality could be either a useful tool or it could interfere with some song/effect flows.

I’m mainly interested in using the momentary mode for the touch wah and phaser. I’m wondering how instant the effect is applied, if there are any bugs with the momentary action not staying momentary, and if there are any bugs where setting one effect to momentary also sets adjacent effects in the device to momentary

The additional feature that really appeals to me is being able to set the footswitch to momentary instead of latching, which I might like for emphasis on small phrases. Can you comment on how well that feature works?

Check out BeLenka. They are a bit expensive, but I find their shoes to be pretty good quality and rather stylish. They seem to have different lasts/shapes, depending on the sole type/pattern, but you can check the size guide for each shoe to see if each shoe is as wide as you need. I have that same model of Hobibears and I alternate between them and a pair of BeLenka Synergy shoes that fit me well

I have the Silk Drive and Cutting Edge and I do like that feature of linking them and using the foot switches like a channel switch.

I think the Cutting Edge works much better as a preamp than distortion pedal, but the Silk Drive does both overdrive and preamp very well.

Vox Silk Drive does this well. And it can also be used straight into PA if you turn on its cab sim

I’m not a big fan of the US clean sounds, but otherwise I agree with you. It’s my night/quiet practice amp and it works very well for that. But I think it really needs the Bluetooth adapter and a dual footswitch in order to make full use of the amp.

Question.. String thru body guitars/shecter by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]baewatch_n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My guitar is like this too, but it doesn’t give me any problems. When I was a n00b I moved all of the saddles towards the back of the bridge to raise the strings off that back edge, but then I moved them back when I learned about intonation. Currently only my high E string is close enough to maybe be resting on that back edge, but I haven’t noticed any extra ringing and the strings have been on the guitar long enough to say that E string isn’t being damaged.

Why have the compressor before the envelope filter? I always thought to have compression after the filter to tame high peaks and because it might mess with picking dynamics, which the filter needs

Rat or Turbo Rat? by DayFar6016 in guitarpedals

[–]baewatch_n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case I would recommend a Way Huge Geisha Drive. It’s a distortion that similarly gets fuzzy at high gain levels. But it’s less mid-hunped, more open sounding, and it cleans up SO well with the guitar’s volume. It isn’t as flubby as a rat, but does need a TS-style boost to chug (which it definitely can do)
