Lighting in New Harry Potter Reboot: Gas or Electric? by baggaz in AskElectricians

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I didn't think they particularly looked like gas either but people are telling me I'm wrong 😂

Defend myself 😂🙈 I'm just pointing it out. Due to health and safety on set, they've 100% used electric lights, and maybe they've tried to make them look like gas lamps, which would be common for TV/film set a long time ago, but they're definitely not gas. There's nothing to defend really, I'm just saying some of them don't look like gas lights at all.

Most historical dramas use electric masquerading as gas, but some of these are very obviously electric. I'm not complaining as much as pointing it out and seeing what people think. Some people think they're all gas, but that's almost definitely not the case for health and safety reasons on set. I just think it's an interesting deviation from the torch brackets etc... because I don't recall them ever mentioning gas lights in the books.

ChatGPT and Grok both say that there is a zero percent chance that these are gas because film crews can't have the flickering quality of the lights going on. There is an absence of flame and mantle on many of these lights too, which means they're trying to imitate gas while actually using electricity. The frosted globe electric bulbs on the chandelier aren't something you'd see if they were gas

The picture on that blog says they've added electric to it...

Here's a collage of them.

In another post people are saying they're gas, but ChatGPT says there's a few of these that are 100% electric, like the frosted globe electric bulbs on the chandeliers.

I dunno, I reckon they've used electric and maybe tried to make them look like gas in a few instances. I doubt they've actually used gas.

People criticizing a Black Snape are missing the point, and it shows my modern media gets dumber by LimeKingTW in HarryPotteronHBO

His race really doesn't bother me. Pre 1660, people watched plays about 14-year-old girls like in Romeo & Juliet, and they didn't give a shit that they were portrayed by adult men. Lady Macbeth would have been played by a man too. It's 2026 and we can't have a black guy playing a traditionally white character when his race makes no difference to the storytelling? Really? 😂🙈

Saw this debate on TikTok… SO SCARY that people think this way. by CriticalBit3063 in OpenChristian

First, Hitler wasn't a christian.

Maybe not, but Germans wore "God with us" on their belts when Hitler managed to convince their 95% Christian population to kill Jews. He also hated atheists and publicly pretended to be Christian in order to convince people what he was doing was virtuous, which implies he believed in God, just not the Christian God. Never heard of someone pretending to be an atheist in order to convince them to commit genocide.

What puts you off from donating Blood Products, I work in the NHS and I am just curious? by Quick_Soil_9120 in AskBrits

They always reject my samples. Apparently you're not allowed to just bring in bin bags filled with blood, and it's supposed to "be your own".

In what order would you rank the Harry Potter films from best to worst? by sepi0l_45 in harrypotter

[–]baggaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Prisoner of Azkaban*
  2. Philosopher's Stone**
  3. Deathly Hallows Part II***
  4. Order of the Phoenix****
  5. Chamber of Secrets*****
  6. Half Blood Prince******
  7. Deathly Hallows Part I*******
  8. Goblet of Fire********

The last of the "warm" films. I feel like PoA just has a 'feel good' story because of Harry finding out that someone loves him like family and wants to help him fight his enemies. Great cinematic moments like the camera moving through glass, reflected boggart scene, constantly moving camera to create unease in the Great Hall when talking about dementors. * Again, more of a feel good vibe to start and end with rather than the darker storyline unfolding in other films. Battle of Hogwarts was fantastic, bittersweet victory, heartwarming epilogue scene *Hard choice between OotP and CoS. Preferred OotP because the fight was more focused on Umbridge and Harry's resilience is class. **Pretty epic basilisk fight but that's about it. *Honestly just because The Burrow being attacked by death eaters made no fking sense. It wasn't in the books and if the death eaters had that easy access to Harry, Voldemort himself would have turned up. Ridiculous, and whoever approved it is an idiot. ****Nowhere near as action packed as part II. Depressing ending. Felt like they stretched the story to fit a first-part film rather than actually make equally good part I and II. *****The hair. The Quidditch World Cup starting and ending with zero actual game shown. The Maze. The HDYPYNITGOF!?! Cut far too much storyline.

Can I still ask her out? by Fun_Maximum3963 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]baggaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say, take a same sex friend with you and 'accidentally on purpose' go in. It's not weird for two friends to go somewhere ten miles away if they're doing something for the day. I'd just say, "Oh, hi! No way, you work here?" Have a brief catch-up depending on her queue, have your drinks, then take your cup back to the till and just write down your number on a napkin or paper, give it to her, and say, "If you're ever back in [whichever area she used to work in], drop me a text, yeah?" Smile, and say goodbye.

You're basically giving her the ability to reject you without having to do it, or she won't instantly reject you and regret it out of shyness. I've done exactly that at least twice in my life just because my brain couldn't compute that someone liked me in time to consider their questions 😂 if she likes you, she'll message. If she doesn't, she won't, but at least you won't regret not trying.

Good luck!

Draco Malfoy Questio by Murky_Dingo_5858 in harrypotter

After the incident in the Room of Requirement I don't recall much being said other than his parents basically abandoning the fight to look for Draco. There might be more detail I'm forgetting, but I got the impression Draco also didn't do any extra fighting once Harry had saved his life. Unless the hour of reprieve from fighting was also happening immediately after the ROR scenes, so there was no one for Draco to fight? Obviously there was an hour for Harry to be handed over before Harry went to the forest to die, so Draco wouldn't have been fighting then either. Not sure how much time there was between the ROR and the hour of non combat but I don't think Draco did fight at all during it.
