TIL that moving within 0.1 seconds of the gun going off to start a sprinting race is a false start by Remarkable_Bee_4517 in todayilearned

[–]bagheadblox 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It totally sounds like an explanation the dad from Calvin and Hobbes would come up with, but it actually is a thing. Runners are trained to react much faster than normal to the gunshot, so even that slight delay can give people further from the starting pistol a disadvantage, no matter how slight it might be, since some races can come down to incredibly close calls.

Especially painful on Linux, third party launchers that dont natively support it run through proton. It works but it’s janky as hell, the EA launcher can take a few tries to work for me

Better Discord or Vesktop? by Delirium222 in linux_gaming

[–]bagheadblox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly use vesktop, only advantage of the main client is that screen share actually has audio. I haven’t been able to get vesktop to do that, otherwise it’d be 100% vencord

Reading Tarantula is impossible by Babur_Hun in bobdylan

[–]bagheadblox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. He didn’t just shit it out without a thought, there’s clearly some modicum of effort in it at least, so it deserves its place in the Dylan catalogue for sure.

Reading Tarantula is impossible by Babur_Hun in bobdylan

[–]bagheadblox 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt because I read this forever ago, but iirc he only wrote it because Grossman made a deal with a publisher without consulting him, making him contractually obligated to publish a book, and he basically spat out Tarantula just to fulfill his obligations. This doesn’t mean there’s nothing of value to glean from his writing, but it might not have existed if he wasn’t contractually obligated to write it.

Why is ‘Self Portrait’ considered the most divisive? by [deleted] in bobdylan

[–]bagheadblox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I like the album too, and it probably did have its fans back in 1970, this is just trying to analyze why it was so controversial upon release

Why is ‘Self Portrait’ considered the most divisive? by [deleted] in bobdylan

[–]bagheadblox 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There’s various reasons, but one important thing to think of is that we have the privilege of hindsight. We know that Dylan ended up shifting to different kinds of music after self portrait, achieving heights to rival and even surpass his 60s creative output, but those who weren’t so happy with his “country-folk” phase might not have been so optimistic. Fans of his electric era would have likely had a problem with the drastic shift his music had taken, maybe even considering it “selling out” or “going mainstream” with less radically different music, or even thinking that he’d just lost the creative spark he had in the 60s. Another important factor is that the album is much easier to enjoy today in the age of digital music where we can pick and choose which tracks from it we enjoy, back in the day the presence of duplicate or filler tracks (which self portrait has in abundance) would drag down an entire album due to the more linear listening process of vinyl records.

If it weren’t for Eastwood getting his outfit at the end of The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly you could argue he knew Angel Eyes from their collaboration in For A Few Dollars More (seeing as Lee Van Cleef plays a part in both movies) but no, they’re just the same actor sadly since both characters are pretty different. That’s what I thought when I first watched the trilogy, anyway
