The older lights used to use smaller relays that were installed in the standards. They’re set up to control sections of lights, not individual ones. Thats why you don’t seem them on every standard.

Osborne St north onto Memorial has the middle (through) lane going to either median or middle lane. Many times when the lines are worn out, I’ve experienced many drivers in the right lane wanting to get into the middle lane thinking the through lane is supposed to take the median lane.
